I just don't understand how people can project onto that soulless robot. I'm a big believe in power fantasy oriented projection, I just need my Protagonist to actually be a part of the world to do that, which is why I like VO.
It's different for many people. Some like you dislike the soulless robot that is our Warden, but some of us (like myself) like the freedom in it. To me, no voice-overs mean that I have no boundaries in imagining my Warden's tone/pitch of voice.
Then again, I imagine the focus of DAO is the Blight that puts our Warden on a leader-like pedestal to save Ferelden whereas in DA][, the focus might have switched to more personal events, which then heightened the importance of protagonist VOs.
Consider two similar situations: Facing your inevitably-dead parents in the Cousland origin story, and having Leandra die in your arms. There was no VO in the first (DAO), that had a significantly smaller impact on me. The second (DA][), did have a VO, and I cried.
My point about VOs aside, what I like about Inquisition is that BioWare is combining two essential elements to create a greater depth of gameplay experience - that is, putting you on a leader-like pedestal plus giving you freedom on your origins, and giving your Inquisitor a VO plus options for the accent of your VO plus greater emotional depth in playing the game whilst travelling around Thedas and with your companions.
