Funny. Because there ARE a significant number of players who would be satisfied with an appearance by him. Just because you dont care either way, doesnt mean the majority dont as well.

So, if the Warden turned out to be a brutal bastard, you would be happy?

That's cool. Now what about all of the people who played a nice guy Warden? A sarcastic Warden? A quiet type Warden? With Hawke, there were three clearly defined options which can probably be set in the Keep. With the Warden, it's infinite. There is no definition, so how could Bioware define him/her in a way to satisfy a large enough portion of the fanbase?

They did. By only having him be mentioned and not appearing.
At no point in this conversation did I say I was upset by the Wardens physical presence not being in the game. I am kinda glad he isnt (for the exact reasons you brought up) I said that I dont understand how people prefer Hawke to Warden.

As for satisfying the masses? Probably not a conceivable notion no. Youre right.

The intent of my original statement remains then: Hawke is preferred because he has far more potential as a character. They just can't do much of anything meaty with the Warden without pissing off a ton of people.

No. Not anything meaty in DA:I. But my point has nothing to do with an inclusion in DA:I. My point is that as individual characters in their individual games, it strikes me that some people prefer Hawke in DA2 to the Warden in DA:O. My own personal thoughts yes. But my thoughts nonetheless.

And your earlier comment just drives home my point. You said their are infinite possibilities for the Warden, and just 3 basic ones for Hawke. Ergo, the Warden is far more diverse as a character in general.

Yep, I understand what you were saying. Given the context of the thread, I thought you were curious as to why people wanted to see Hawke in DA:I specifically.

Anyway, I get it now. I can definitely get why people like the Warden, even though I'm a Hawke man at heart.

...they have confirmed you will be able to customize Hawke to look like your Hawke. (PS there is no save file transferring at all in DAI)

This is great! Is the Hawke customization in game, or through the Keep? I haven't seen such an option in the Keep, except there are two of the seven Hawkes I created.

I'd love to see Hawke as a permanent companion, but I'd be VERY surprised to see it.

If DAI doesn't allow customizing the Warden, then I can only hope for it in the next game, where they'll finally tell you what happened to the Warden if (s)he is said to disappear off the face of Thedas in DAI. I love both my Wardens and Hawkes. Although I'm excited for Hawke to be appearing in DAI, my stomach still feels knotty because there won't be a chance to get any closure with the Warden in this game. BioWare, I sincerely hope you'll give us some closure with the Warden!

That's probably the excuse they needed to possibly implement the Warden in another game. DAI already has a lot to explore within the Dragon Age story, and adding the Warden into the game would probably have delayed the entire game for another 2 years. Furthermore, it's good they placed Hawke into the  game, because for some fans who love their Wardens more, it acts like a pacifier of sorts before the next possible installment where the Warden might come in. Given the massive number of possibilities they have placed for the fate of Thedas, which I'm sure is mentally exhausting in itself, I have no doubt that they'll be able to get the Warden in somehow. If they did though, I'm pretty sure there will be a huge overhaul to the way of defining the Warden's character, like the Dragon Age Keep taking over the save import mechanism.

I was kind of hoping for an appearance and a few lines, myself. Not anything like them being a companion.

Think of this: you're out fighting darkspawn/dragons/Templars/mages/whatever, and you encounter a figure in Grey Warden armor (or robes). This figure is hooded or masked, and plowing through the enemies with ease. You "help" them fight, the figure stops and gives a few generic lines about the situation, then departs to "investigate further". You never see them again, but you get regular reports detailing what's going on, back at the Keep.

Nothing major, just one small physical appearance and a lot of heavy presence. The helmet means you don't have to recreate your Warden, and with the right wording the lines could sound like they come from any number of personalities.

But... Why? I don't see why they would go to that effort for a half-baked cameo. I would rather The Warden didn't appear than for this to happen. Realistically they can have Hawke make a faithful reappearance, and that's why Hawke is in the game and The Warden is not. Honestly I don't see why this is still being debated.

Maybe I am biased because DA:O was a significantly better game, or because it was just thr first game that introduced me to the DA universe, but it still boggles my mind that people like Hawke over the Warden. Not to say I dont like Hawke. I do. I just like the Warden SIGNIFICANTLY more.

My thing is because the overall structure of DAO is so much more different than DA2 and DAI, the Warden's personality and characterization just will never work. Much as people complain about the Mass Effect Dialogue Wheel, it at least gave the character somewhat of a personality the writers can work with.

No. One's real and one's imaginary, and they're giving the one that's real.

Just give me the warden killing some things with sword, bow or magic and him looking how I wanted and that is all. Big deal.

Hawke is a character and the Warden is an avatar.

That's why one is coming back and the other one isn't.
