DA:I will be released within a month. Everyone is planning their inquisitors and deciding who they will romance first. However, as far as I know we still don't know how romances work in DA:I.

 

So the question is - can you romance more then one character at the same time (like in DA:O) and you just have to make a final decision at some point of the game? Or is it "when one door opens all other close"? - meaning if you start to romance one NPC all others become unavailable (like in ME3).

 

So far I have 4 NPCs (Sera, Josie, Blackwall & Dobby) that could potentially become my LI. The thing is only Josie and Dobby are available from the beginning. So if start things with Josie will I be able to romantically connect with Sera once she finds me in Orlais?

 

Since this stuff is important to me - I would be grateful for a clear answer from one of devs. Thank you in advance

Well likely at some point you would have to choose between them.

There is no polyamory. You can flirt a lot, but I'm guessing after a certain point a romance is locked and you won't be able to continue a romance path with anyone else.

You prolly can flirt with Josie until you meet Sera. I imagine the romance flag won't be ticked that soon in the game.

I think there will be an earlier cut off from multiple flirtations than in DA:O. So no Alistair/Zevran/Leliana or Morrigan/Zevran/Leliana tomfoolery.

Liz gave a tweet a month or so back that said your LI will scold you for flirting with other people in their presence so once you're locked in that's it.

DAI will be like ME3. Once you actually initiate a romance with one LI, you are locked out of the others. So it should be pretty obvious which scene that will be, just like in ME3.

I didn't realize ME3 did that, so I guess it's not that obvious?

Are we talking about full-fledged romance or just flirting? It has been the tradition in every BioWare game that you can more or less flirt and make as many relationships as you want, up until you have to choose who you will romance. The romance arc generally isn't available until the end of the game. I doubt DAI will break that tradition.

in DAO you could if done right romance morigan, leliana and zevran all in one play through and keep them all without having to pick one  

 

Maybe you can do the same in DA:I, DA2 gave me some really epic bugs with romances like meril vs isibella over lapping and causing errors in the end game lol

I find it very hard to resist that heart icon option, so I hope there's an indication of locking in the romance if it involves conversation triggers.
