I just did a quest for Anders to kill Ser Alrek. I read his note, and it says more mages are being born. Some say magic's a gift others a curse, my Warden, and Hawke believe it's a gift from the Maker (or some higher power). Over the year in DAO, and the 6 or 7 in DA2, more mages are being born.

I'm wondering, if the Maker knew something was wrong. Making more mage born children, to prepare for the demon invasion. What do any of you think? Is the rise of mages, TRULY, the Maker's plan to prepare for the demons in DA:I or something else?

This is just a speculation, but in the past few years (in DA universe), magic has been on the rise. I just did a quest for Anders to kill Ser Alrek. I read his note, and it says more mages are being born. Some say magic's a gift others a curse, my Warden, and Hawke believed it's a gift.

thats a very interesting idea, you might be right, but are mages the best way to combat demons? well i suppose we would need mages to fight demons in the fade, nevermind, maybe it is the makers plan. thank you for bringing this idea to light, its something to ponder. also, i ran out of likes for today, so here is +1 like in message form.

I wish the Maker would let us poor mortals in on his apparently great plan of his, instead having us all flounder in the dark.

That is a very interesting idea.  It would make sense in a way to have mages to fight the demons in the fade. Though sometimes I wish the maker would let his devout Chantry and Templars know what he is doing so ya know they can let the mages prepare.

Keep in mind that Ser Alrek is an insane rapist, I don't think it is best to trust his word. I certainly wouldn't.

As for your theroy, there are some issues, the biggest being the fact that in dragon age mages have a likely chance of becoming possessed by demons. so why would the Maker use them as his army, as it can give power to the demons :P

Side Note: I don't want the truth to be revealed for the Maker/Andraste. I like the unknown for it lets me roleplay easier and it places the focus not on the deity that the character worships but on how faith involves their own life, which I think is much better for stories.

Perhaps he has been. He only spoke to Andraste, so he likely has to makes signs to talk to mortals. The Chantry's just too ignorant of these signs to realise his will.

The developers have said many times that the existence of the Maker is ambiguous (will never be confirmed nor denied).

Therefore, anything that could potentially be linked to the Maker can neither be confirmed nor denied as his work.

It's just safer to say that "stuff happens" in Thedas, regardless of whether the Maker is involved or not.

Besides, can we even trust Ser Alrik?

Who know after all anyone who knew the truth has been long dead.

Though in Dalish Origin of DAO the ruins you explore hint that Humans have existed long before the Maker appeared in Thedas and that they may have even lived peacefully with the Elven race.

True, mages can be possessed. However, the past shows mages aren't entirely defenseless against demons. Only mages can enter the fade at will, and since mages draw their power from the fade. They're more effective at killing demons.

There's no need to trust him. I finished him off with a fireball, and watched him go... Sandal: "BOOM!"... Yeah that ^_^. Also, evidence is ingame, Connor, Warden mage, Hawke, Malcolm, the elf-blooded Feynriel, Bethany, the countless mages in DAO n DA2. You run in to more and more mages.

The player also meets tons of non-mages, what's your point?

All those mages you listed have already been born. Your OP implies that we're talking about more mage infants being born in recent years.

Alrik's letter says "The mages in the Free Marches are past controlling, their numbers have doubled in three years".

This doesn't necessarily mean that there have been more mage births in Thedas. It applies to the Free Marches solely and could just as easily mean that more mages are immigrating to the Free Marches. I mean, why not? The Free Marches has no central government, making it easier to evade detection.

Isnt it the other way around? More mages = More people that can become abominations, more strife and more chaos? O.o

what if the Tevinter mages or someone else tried to repeat a ritual which caused blights, but instead they awoke a dark side of sleeping maker, which is threating you as the elder one. Or someone simply managed to awake some of the tevinter magisters left in fade...

If this is the Maker's plan it's kind of sadistic, just saying.

The maker has no plan.

I'd find it funny if this was the case. Like the Maker does actually exist but really has no clue what's going on and just kinda goes with the flow.

The Black City was actually just his fridge that he'd forgotten to clear out in a long time.

That'd be fun to watch. What was that The Simpsons game called where you play God who is more like a college student eating pizza and drinking beer.

Blood fot the old gods skulls fpor my throne. I will purge this heretical cult of this maker delusion with fire and sword. Or I could get railroded into acceptance of the heralx title which given the timid and hollow objections we have seen so far seems likely
