I preordered the amazon disc version of Inquisition, but I just learned about the pre-download on origin. I am looking for suggestions. I could play the game the instant it's released, but I wouldn't get to feel the hard disc in my hands... :wizard:  (mauahaha)

What are you guys doing?

I'm doing digital download.  I can confirm the game is downloadable a few days prior but not available to play till the 17th.  The way I see it, if something happens to my disc (or my CD drive which is iffy right now anyway), I still can play the game.  Does anyone know if it will be like DA2 in that you just loaded it up and then put the disc away or if you will be required to insert the disc every time you want to play the game?

GOOD POINT. Especially the last part, if I have to have the disc in the drive everytime I want to play then forget it, I might as well just play off of Origin.. I lose stuff way too easily.

It's purely a matter of personal preference. Those who download digitally have the advantage of not having to wait an extra number of hours.

I personally preoredered a physical copy of the DE from Amazon.

Digital download from Origin, instead of with Amazon. With Origin you can preload with game, and play it earlier than Amazon.

I also preordered disc DE from amazon.. but I like @sylvanaerie point about damaged discs or required in-tray to play.

Also,

If I was transferring all of my digital copies from origin to another computer, couldn't I just copy the game folder and verifycacheintegrity like on steam to bypass the 20 GB DL again? Or would I need to redownload the game again? This question goes out to everyone. I change up computers frequently, but I've never had to download games again from origin because I have all the games on disc. Steam, however, I just copy the files to another computer and it takes a quick verification to play them again.

I haven't had to change my PC from before I installed Origin, but I did end up having to do a reformat about a year ago because my Win had deteriorated to the point of 'nervous breakdown'.  I just loaded up Origin and redownloaded everything to the reformatted PC.  I would imagine it was similar to a fresh installation and didn't take that long.  If you have backup (I didn't) I imagine it would be conceivable that you can save the files and install them from your back up file?  I'm not computer savvy enough to say if that is possible, but it seems to me it should be?

*Edit* seeing as my CD drive is not doing well, I wouldn't have been able to play any of my games without digital download.

I think I'm gonna try digital download. Less stuff to lose, less waiting around time, and I'm sure I can figure out a way to transfer games. And I totally see myself waking up at midnight and crying softly because my game is not yet here lol

I should also point out my daughter lost her disc of Spore.  I had to contact EA and they were really sweet about allowing me to set up a Digital download replacement for her.  I just had to provide proof (visual picture) of the box, the manual with the CD Code and my email address to my account for them.

It is an option if your disc is lost/damaged, but much less worrisome to just have it on Digital Download.  I'll just be downloading my game and going off to do other things without standing by my wonky CD drive trying to install (from however many discs 25g will require) the game.

Digital download definitely, because I can play the game earlier. I wanted to have something non-digital DA:I related anyway, so I preordered the artbook.

There are no differences between the retail version of the game and the Origin one (for EA games).

You can enter the serial number that came with your boxed version and install the game from the Origin. You don't even have to touch that DVD if you don't want to.

That means:

1. No need to worry about the discs being broken.

2. No need for the disc to play the game.

Except for deluxe editions, I would never buy the retail version. That said, all EA games are activated on Origin from the code in the box so you won't need the disc at all to play.

I'm buying the digital deluxe edition on Origin. It's $15 cheaper than the standard edition on Amazon and I'll be able to play upon release. Sadly, the Collector's Edition holds no appeal for me.

Always, always retail.

Also this. I install from the disc and then you don't need it anymore.

Disc has the same price as the digital version now (something which I think is pretty unfair to digital buyers), so since I like physical editions anyway, there really is no downside to getting the disc. Plus I won't actually have to insert the disc each time I have to play after due to Origin.

Hmm.. they're showing both being exactly the same price for me.

Regional prices. I'm looking at the Mexico Origin Store whereas Amazon.com is, naturally, US-based.

Ah I see. Well especially if they'd ship from the US you'd want to go with digital DL.

Indeed. Nowadays I'm mostly digital save for that specific book/movie/game I want to have a physical copy of.

EDIT: Hmm... the store also says the game releases November 17th?

Well they're probably talking about 11:59 PM on the 17th, or 12:00 AM on the 18th.

That extra minute makes all the difference :bandit:

It does?  Like you won't even be able to get through the opening music in one minute.  Heck if you get to make your Inquisitor before entering the game (as with Origins), you won't even be in the actual game yet by that minute.

It takes me the better part of an hour just making my Sim's 'just so'.  I don't want to think about how long Inquisition's CC is going to take me...

And I was terrible.  I'd make a Warden or Hawke, and I wouldn't even be out of the first cutscene before I thought OMG I hate that tattoo/brows/makeup...you name it and cringe, hitting Esc button to delete and remake.  Toolset usage cut that down a lot in Origins and knowing I could take Hawke at the first opportunity to The Emporium's mirror also helped, but more than a few ended up on the 'cutting room floor' for one flaw or another my OCD couldn't live with.

Poor Yorigin, I knew him well.

Physical. One, because DRM is something I avoid like sandal in a thong, and two, I'm not in that huge a rush to get it absolutely right when it comes out. It's an enormous game if the devs' commentary is any indication, so it's not something I'd be able to beat in a few sittings.

I'll take the Not-So-Floppy Disc.

I'll personally be getting it at 9 PM on the 17th. I think it varies.
