I pre-ordered the deluxe version on Origin, but I haven't bought a physical copy of a PC game since... Spore in 2008? I just don't have any sentimentality when it comes to boxes/discs, and don't really have the space to store them anyway.
To download or not to download... that is the question

It does? Like you won't even be able to get through the opening music in one minute. Heck if you get to make your Inquisitor before entering the game (as with Origins), you won't even be in the actual game yet by that minute.
It takes me the better part of an hour just making my Sim's 'just so'. I don't want to think about how long Inquisition's CC is going to take me...
And I was terrible. I'd make a Warden or Hawke, and I wouldn't even be out of the first cutscene before I thought OMG I hate that tattoo/brows/makeup...you name it and cringe, hitting Esc button to delete and remake. Toolset usage cut that down a lot in Origins and knowing I could take Hawke at the first opportunity to The Emporium's mirror also helped, but more than a few ended up on the 'cutting room floor' for one flaw or another my OCD couldn't live with.
I was totally kidding I doubt I'd even get to the main screen in a minute, since I always let the beginnings play out on a new game. And I'm probably worse than you with CE, I remember restarting DA:II about 12 times before I finally liked my hawke. That damn ogre get's boring after awhile, let me tell you.
Poor Yorigin, I knew him well.
Physical. One, because DRM is something I avoid like sandal in a thong, and two, I'm not in that huge a rush to get it absolutely right when it comes out. It's an enormous game if the devs' commentary is any indication, so it's not something I'd be able to beat in a few sittings.
I'll take the Not-So-Floppy Disc.
I lol'd so hard at this you have no idea.

I don't have a DVD drive for almost few years now.
Same. Will buy it on origin, probably. I don't know why physical is cheaper here....

The DRM for spore's retail copy was unprecidentedly terrible. I mean... wasn't that game like the #1 most pirated game ever in direct response to that for awhile??

Yah know guys if you buy a physical disc and register it you can just redownload the game at any point if you lose the CD or it breaks or whatever. I don't have much of a choice since my internet supplier does not like huge downloads but even if I did I'd probably wait a bit and buy the disc anyway.

It was? She hasn't played in a while since she lost her disc some years ago. I told her I'd try to get a digital copy so all we would have to do is download it from now on (she's also been through 3 laptops in that time--kid is hell on electronics, told her she would have to buy the last replacement PC). Since she still had the manual and box, just not the disc, I didn't have a lot of issues.
People really pirated Spore? I didn't think it was all that when I tried to play it. Making the little creatures and doing the little mini-games to build their alliances/rivalries was fun but after everything got to the tribal stage I got bored fast. So did she.

It is a fun game, I happen to love spore. So did a lot of other people. The issue was that the retail disc version only allowed up to 3 installs (so people changing computers, reformatting hard drives, etc., couldn't install the game they paid for more than a predetermined number of times). They fixed the issue after release because an overwhelming number of people pirated the cracked version of the game in response to that. It was ironic, that they put that DRM to keep people from downloading, and in response made it the most pirated game of all time.
I'm glad it happened though (in a sad way), it made them realize that strict DRM is not the answer, and protected future games as a result. You probably didn't see any issues because they patched it after that and likely didn't need to reinstall multiple times.

True, I had a copy on my PC and her laptop didn't play the game very well, so she usually played on my desktop. And then she lost the disc--I don't even recall if it was necessary to have the disc in the CD drive to play. And then when I did the reformat, it was gone anyway. I'm surprised the rep didn't give me a harder time considering this happened. I never knew about it, and she (the rep) never mentioned it. Is that 3 times install still a thing? Or did they lift that restriction? I don't mind buying a new copy eventually, but all computers eventually meet their Maker in that big warehouse in the sky and mine will some day too.
*Edit* wow, they even mention Sims 2. Considering how much money I spent collecting all those games and expansion sets (I have all but 1 pack) I think I'm gonna be sick...
At least I got a free version of the game recently from Origin when they did their "Sims 2 Ultimate" giveaway and it included the one pack I never got a chance to buy.

haha. I think they lifted it. and anyway I would really just buy it on steam, it's a relatively fast download and they have a bundle deal. And from the articles and videos I read the reps and even the devs were very understanding and seemed genuinely sorry about it.. I mean I guess that could just be a facade but my impression was that the DRM was enforced by EA execs themselves.. I don't see devs being overly excited about pissing off their customers.
Sad that it took corporate so long to come to that same conclusion.
EDIT : Then again... it is Maxis.. and they do seem to have a pension for DRM. Spore and Simcity come to mind.

I just went ahead and pre-ordered the physical PC version from Gamestop because there are so many November games coming out that I'd SURELY go over my 300GB limit (lol Comcast) if I got everything digitally.

I have WoW, that's already been DLed the other day. Probably more to come though once the new expansion goes live. ToR's new expansion and Inquisition. If needs be, I will only do Inquisition and hold off on the other two. That's where my priority is atm.

you know i've never played WoW because I was afraid my internet connection was too bad. When I found out it wasn't (recently) the game has already aged a decade and i'm sort of afraid to sink money into it at this point.

It can be fun. Of course, with MMO's you run the risk of jerks in groups and human drama breaking up guilds. I take long breaks--like, years long breaks,--but have been essentially playing since it came out. Between WoW and Dragon Age, though I'd opt for the latter. I love the personal feel of the single player experience. ToR is a lot of fun too. It plays out a lot like Dragon Age, where you speak to quest givers in a cinematic with voiced over dialogue (in fact, several of the actors are well known to DA fans--Brian Bloom does the Male Republic trooper) and get cutscenes after significant boss fights as well. You get companions just like in DA, there is also the humor and romance I've come to enjoy so much in Bioware's storytelling.
*Edit* and each class gets its own specific storyline in addition to the general quests available to everyone in your respective faction. My favorite is the Imperial Agent.
Bioware has spoiled me on games, they really have.

Um... you still have to activate your copy via Origin so, in truth, you're not avoiding DRM at all.

might look into that. MMO trolls don't bother me I would just light them on fire and laugh.
bioware has spoiled me too XD

I prefer to go digital.
I dont have to wait to get the gameto be delivered, i dont have a useless disc and box to find space for. I have a good internet speed so downloading is no problem and takes a few hours (8 at most for large games....thats just an overnight download).
I do occasionally buy physical versions though, usually when they are cheaper than digital........like DA:I. The digital cost is a lot more expensive than buying the physical version off amazon (£49,99 digital vs £39.83 physical standard ed). Makes little sense to me.

Either way, you'll still need Origin to play the game.
So in the end, it is exactly the same thing.

Digital download too. I appreciate having discs, but at the same time I have to admit that I don't exactly use them all that often anymore.
