The last pc game I had as a disc was Starcraft: Wings of Liberty.
Other than that, all of my games are digital for PC.

I still prefer disc over digital for consoles and handhelds though, because of poor capacity. Damn Nintendo and Sony are still pushing their old and tiny arse memory sticks and sd cards to suck in extra bucks.

PS4 is pretty good to go digital 'cause I can swap the hard drive with bigger capacity, and also the sizes of the digital and physical versions are the same.

The normal disc version for PC. 44,99 € with Amazon (Origin would be 59,99€).   Physical Deluxe isn't available in Germany and Digital Deluxe on Origin is massively overpriced (69,99€)

I also preordered disc DE from amazon.. but I like @sylvanaerie point about damaged discs or required in-tray to play.

Also,

If I was transferring all of my digital copies from origin to another computer, couldn't I just copy the game folder and verifycacheintegrity like on steam to bypass the 20 GB DL again? Or would I need to redownload the game again? This question goes out to everyone. I change up computers frequently, but I've never had to download games again from origin because I have all the games on disc. Steam, however, I just copy the files to another computer and it takes a quick verification to play them again.

I just built a new rig, and I was not about to re-download my games. I also wanted my disk copies of DA and ME games on Origin. Unfortunately, a simple copy/paste doesn't quite work, but it's not much more work.

*Install the Origin client, start the game download (maybe 1%)

*Pause the download, and exit Origin

*Use the disk, or a backup from an external hard drive, to copy the files to the proper folder

*Login to Origin, it will recognize the presence of the game files, and finish downloading the last few necessary files (run repair game if necessary)

*Enjoy

Really easy way to get your cake and eat it too you just need about ~$70 that can bee in limbo for two weeks.  Keep the physical pre-order you want and also purchase a digital version on Origin.

1.) Pre-order and pre-load the game . 2.) Play on November 17th at 8pm, 3.) Receive physical copy. 4.) Request money back on digital order using Origin's Great Game Guarantee by November 18th at 8pm. 4) Use code that came with physical edition of game. 5.) Load save, play for a bajillion more hours

It's what I'm doing, because frankly there is no reason this shouldn't be possible in this day and age while I wait for my Inquisitor's Edition to be delivered.

That's really funny, so basically buy 2 copies and juggle them. I'm sad to say this loophole has already crossed my mind but idk, i would just feel guilty doing that. Besides I'm not getting the Inquisitor's Edition, just the Deluxe, so all I'd be missing out on is a box cover and a disc.

THIS. Pretty much what I was thinking but I'm glad to have it confirmed, thank you. I'll probably download the game and go this route for transferring files. Thankfully I'll only need to download Inquisition once, and that will be on my new rig anyway. The rest of my Origin games I have on disc and my steam ones are already safely transferred.

This time I will actually go into a store and buy the game physically. Every other big game I wanted to have like: Skyrim, The Last Of Us, ME3 I either downloaded or got shipped home to me. It's actually going to be a great feeling going into a store and buy the game only thinking "Where is my mount?! I need to get home more quickly". I haven't had that feeling in a very, very long time!

I got the disc deluxe off amazon because I like to own physical and also it saves me bandwidth on my ISP. Only negative is I'll have to wait until release day to play it. Knowing amazon though, they'll ship it to me and I'll get it a day early.

I just cancelled my amazon order and went full download via origin. I give lots of cred to amazon they really get the game to you fast, and with any other game that would be fine. BUT THIS IS THE INQUISITION. And Origin lets you start playing Nov. 17th at 11 pm.

I shall slay mightily all through the night.

I would so laugh if you rode to the store on an actual horse and in armor.

I'm in Europe, so if I get the disk, I have to wait until the 21st. If I get the digital download, I can use a VPN client and play on the 18th.

So definitely "to download".

Derek can you please tell us if we can use a vpn to unlock the game on the 18th if we live in a country with a different release date? Prior games like ME2 it was discouraged but wasn't enforced in any way.

There's nothing in the Origin terms of service that tells us VPN use is not allowed. I did it with Sims 4 myself. Very easy and EA doesn't hand out bans.

There are no differences between the retail version of the game and the Origin one (for EA games).

You can enter the serial number that came with your boxed version and install the game from the Origin. You don't even have to touch that DVD if you don't want to.

That means:

1. No need to worry about the discs being broken.

2. No need for the disc to play the game.

Very good point, I'm doing that: in France's amazon the DVD got on promo about 10€ less than in origin. I'll still download the game from origin if possible, then use my account activation from the box. That way if my CD got broken it's fine.

The only problem with Origin and Uplay is that it doesn't have a simple feature to backup your game like Steam. You need to it manually.

IIRC I think it worked fine to back up ME3 just by moving the entire game folder to USB drive.

I think I'm gonna try digital download. Less stuff to lose, less waiting around time, and I'm sure I can figure out a way to transfer games. And I totally see myself waking up at midnight and crying softly because my game is not yet here lol

Don't quote me on this but I thought that if you have purchased the physical copy once you register the CD code with Origin you could digitally download in the future.  At least it works with some other digital download providers (Blizzard comes to mind).

I preordered the amazon disc version of Inquisition, but I just learned about the pre-download on origin. I am looking for suggestions. I could play the game the instant it's released, but I wouldn't get to feel the hard disc in my hands... :wizard:  (mauahaha)

What are you guys doing?

Buying the physical copy the digital version is £15 dearer on Xbox One in the UK.

Yeah one of the devs confirmed that you can do that.

There is a preload on Origin that unlocks on the 14th @ 11 am (CST)

That goes to show Origin's support agents are woefully informed. I just asked that question and they told me there would be no preload.

Disc has the same price as the digital version now (something which I think is pretty unfair to digital buyers), so since I like physical editions anyway, there really is no downside to getting the disc. Plus I won't actually have to insert the disc each time I have to play after due to Origin.

Digital is actually more expensive here. Origin is simply overpriced.

Depends on the region. Like I said, I can buy the Deluxe edition from Origin for $45.

Does anyone know anything new about whether it'll be possible to upgrade a standard edition to Deluxe somehow?

Lucky. Where do you live? In Europe we're getting shafted by Origin.

I was getting shafted by Origin not that long ago. I live in Uruguay, which is in South America. However, Origin initially lumped us with Europe via its Spain Store because we speak Spanish. As we both know, the Euro prices are ludicrous. Fortunately, however, Origin had the good sense of changing its policy and now most Spanish-speaking countries in South America are redirected to the Mexico Store. I can now pay in US Dollars and usually at a lower price than the US itself.

EDIT: If you want to talk about luck, however, I suggest to redirect your attention to Russia.

the deluxe edition for pc is only available from origin, over where i live anyway (scandinavian), and i also get to play it on the 19th. Its released the 20th in our country. So i take it everyone who preorders from origin gets to play a bit earlier, a few hours before the day of release in that country?
