Ashley most definitely and that one marine who keeps walking into me and saluting on the command deck and crew deck, what's his deal?

Other than the obvious selection of Ethan Jeong the Immortal,

It's kinda sad how pretty much all of the corporate types in BioWare games end up being staggeringly incompetent, cartoonishly evil, and/or members of organized crime syndicates. Kinda makes the "write what you know" jokes too easy.

You two, stay a deck apart at all times! Is that clear? Save your fighting for the Collectors!

Samara *meditating quietly on the floor of the medbay.*
Nihlus *on one of the beds, just coming back to consciousness*
Shep: Dr. Chakwas! What happened here?
Chakwas: Nihlus was unconscious when Samara brought him in here, commander. No lasting damage from what I can tell, though.
Nihlus *groans*: That was awesome.
Shep: Samara?
Samara: Shepard. Nihlus nearly had me in the observation lounge-
Joker (over the intercom): *snicker*
Samara: but his reach was longer than I expected.
Nihlus: I never would have guessed an asari could out-flexible a turian, but ... *shrug*
Shep *looks confused*: okay, the human is a little lost, here."
Joker (over the intercom): Don't worry, commander. EDI took pictures. We've already sold them to the next issue of Justicar Heroes.
EDI: That was a joke.
Joker (over the intercom): What? No it wasn't. We-
EDI: Comm line is still open, Mr. Moreau.
Joker (over the intercom): Aww crap! *disconnects*
Shep: The hell is going on here??
Samara: We have... settled... Our differences, commander.
Nihlus: Did we ever!
Samara: Though I am afraid I will have to kill your pilot.
Nihlus: We will have to kill him... later.
Shep: So... are we good here or what?
Nihlus: Fine.
Samara: Fine.

So, I'm going to go a bit renegade here and say:

The Catalyst.

If there's anything that would improved ME's narrative more, it would have been to more fully integrate the Catalyst in a sensible way...preferably at the end of ME2 as a plot twist there. Then you have Leviathan in the game explaining the backstory, and you enter Priority: Earth knowing the stakes instead of saving the reveal for a plot twist that is frankly more confusing than anything.

I agree with that. If they were going to put the little tyke in the game, they should have put him in the game.

Completely agree with you there; everything involving the Czerka corporation from KOTOR especially comes to mind. Still, I'm a bit more forgiving when it comes to ME1, because I think it is very self-consciously drawing from pretty much every scifi trope in the book: Scary AI, an ancient advanced species that disappeared under mysterious circumstances, blue-skinned space babes, and yes, evil corporations. From this point of view, Ethan Jeong is nothing other than ME's answer to Carter Burke from Aliens.

And when she spoke she was different from ME1 Ash.

I'm still not quite sure what to think of all her drinking scenes. Was there anything in ME1 to suggest that she was a party girl? She asked Shepard to join her for a drink on a special occasion, which is something normal people do. Suddenly, in ME3 and the Citadel DLC large segments of her interactions revolve around downing large amounts of alcohol. Were they added because they weren't sure how to advance her character? Her distrust towards aliens and her religion get dropped, so was this added to make up for that void?

It's just as bad for Tali. They forced her to get shitfaced drunk on the bathroom floor no matter what kind of party you through. Also eats random cheese that could kill her. I don't remember her being so clumsy and foolish.

Jenkins....

Edit: Really, all you get is dialogue from him before Eden Prime talking on how Jenkins will try not to die, ironically. I might've even preferred him than Kaiden.

Instead of having Jenkins die, have him sent back to the Normandy when Ashley shows up and after the mission, Anderson has him transferred to another unit.

It always irked me that I can't kick Ashley off my ship. You can tell Anderson that "I don't want her on my ship" to which he responds "it isn't your ship". Well, it's my ship now but I'm still stuck with her. I'd rather see her gunned down by a geth drone and have Jenkins on the Normandy

Other than the obvious selection of Ethan Jeong the Immortal, I'd go with Legion; I think his recruitment mission should have taken place way earlier in the story, particularly given how important a role he plays for the Rannoch arc that was inevitably going to become a big deal in the next game.

Also, I always though the Rachni were pretty interesting, so maybe the Rachni Queen could have had a somewhat enlarged role in ME2; obviously this would have been tricky to manage given that she's killable in ME1, but still, it could have been interesting to get that perspective on the history of the Rachni wars and get a little more understanding of one of the truly weird races of ME.

The sad part about Legion is that BioWare originally intended for us to recruit him fairly early in the game; in fact there is even dialogue and cutscenes still in the game that you can see with save editors.

Agree 100% with you on the Rachni. Personally, I would have changed the choice in ME 1 from killing the Queen or letting her go, to a situation where she will escape regardless, but Shepard can either call the Council and sic hunter killer teams after her (Renegade) or let her go and either don't tell the Council or feed them a false location for the Queen's whereabouts (Paragon).

I still don't understand (lore-wise) why the Alliance in ME 3 decided to keep the Rachni as a minor engineering detail on the Crucible if Shepard was able to recruit her. Everybody is going on about how "We need the Krogan"; which don't misunderstand me, the Krogan are good to have; but nobody considered to utilize the Rachni to help actually fight the Reapers?!

You have a species that is:

• Immune or highly resistant (more so than any other species, save maybe the Vorcha)  to indoctrination. Why else would the Reapers need to have the Queen shackled if they had captured her and turned her into a husk baby factory?

• A natural QEC. All those communicators on the Normandy are nice, but what if they break, or the Reapers target galactic infrastructure? The Queen is able to talk across the galaxy without the need of technological assistance.

• Has no need of weapons or armor to fight a technologically advanced species. In ME 1 a small feral colony was about to overwhelm an Alliance outpost that had tanks, gun turrets, shields, and automatic weapons.

• Can supply the Galaxy with combat capable soldiers in a matter of weeks. Compare this to the years it takes other species to replace their numbers.

The Krogan should have been secondary to the Rachni in terms of needed allies (IMO). Sure the Krogan might be individually stronger than the Rachni solders, but they don't have anywhere close to the Rachni's birth rate, they need to be supplied with weapons and armor in order to fight effectively, and they are fairly ineffective at unit cohesion (everything is about the strongest should rule with them), compared to the Rachni's bee like industry. As for the Rachni's general "monstrous" appearance, if the galaxy is willing to work with the Geth, despite them killing the Quarians, and anyone that entered the Perseus Veil for 300 years, then they should be able to deal with the space ants.

Seriously, whoever decided to assign the Rachni to 'Crucible duty' should be brought up on war crimes. You have a Prothean engineered bio-weapon that is on your side in a battle for the galaxy's very survival and your first thought is, "Hey Rachni are good with tools right?"

It all boils down to stupidity of choices in previous Mass Effects, they couldn't make 2 kinds of everything because you could decide to kill Queen on Noveria. That's also a reason why i hate choice in games.

I am not against choices per say, but I do agree that BioWare should stop presenting players with universe shaping decisions, as well as choices that allow entire species to be wiped out. Being able to decide if everyone in the galaxy has green glowy bits, or being able to kill off the Rachni, Quarians/Geth, Krogan make for a nice marketing blurb, but they ultimately limit the choices of subsequent titles.

Uhm, no. You're free to hate or love any character you see fit. It can't be forced. If I'm stuck with Ash I can spend entire game not talking to her at all and not taking her on any mission. She's certainly not on the top of my favorite characters list. The very existence of such list renders your statement false. There is a whole thread around here with those types of lists from different players

You didn't understand.

Whatever you do or not do, all your choices in all dialogues mean that you absolutely 100% care about characters and his problems and can never be rude or non-caring.

Why can't i say to some Kaidan\Ashley\Miranda\Traynor\Liara to **** off with their stupid problems? Because Bioware expect me to care. But i don't, still forced to comply with that bull.

In my experience, characters tell you about their problems if you deliberately go and talk to them. Also choosing Investigate options. I'd be interested in an example of a situation where a character approaches you and starts to tell about his/her problems

It is more of an issue about overall attitude. Shepard barely knows Wrex, yet they're best friends in ME2. Shepard talks to Anderson like 4-5 times and suddenly treats him like a father in ME3. Shepard sees Kiddo and starts crying about him for the whole time. Shepard can't tell Ashley\Kaidan on Horizon to **** off. Shepard can't even prohibit EDI from using Cerberus robot body. Talking to chambers there is no option to tell that "S\He betrayed me, i don't care about him\her anymore"

Shepard cares about everyone, everytime, 90% chance that if there is an option in dialogue it wouldn't lead to telling someone that Shepard doesn't care, it would probably be slightly different shades of "i care and want to know the whole story" Shepard  treats any character with a major role as a friend, there is no option to express different kind of feelings and attitude. It can be done with Urdnot Bakara, changing her reaction, and this is actually a good point. You can tell her that she's only for politics or that's she's future of krogan race, leading to different responses in coming dialogues. I just wish there was such an option with characters like Anderson\Liara\Starchild and other.

Also, "STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE!!!"

I agree about attitude but it's a different question. You mentioned Shepard being concerned with other characters' problems and that's something I don't agree with. I'm not going to touch the subject of STEEEEEEVE, because it's a bug.

Also, any RPG game with quest givers makes the protagonist concerned about certain problems to get those quests. It's just how it works.
