Looking good, BioWare, but...goddamn, the horse animations looked awful in the newest stream. I mean, horses seem to be something many devs get wrong - Red Dead Redemption was probably about the only game I've seen do it right...but this one is especially weird. It looks like it's gliding across the ground.
We need to talk about those mount animations...

Yes. Because they're bad, and if I'm going to be riding a horse around I'm going to want decent animations.

There was a horse galloping in one of the early trailers that looked really good. I guess that wasn't in-game footage.

I too think they saw a bit stiff, many games have done them good i thinkm RDR was clearly the best in my opinion, but the assassins creed franchise have done them better and better for each game aswell, also last of us did a fairly good horse animation too.
Though what good discussing it will do, i don't know, cause at this point it wont change, so we can talk, discuss, and point fingers at it as much as we want, it wont change anything this time around.

I honestly don't give a crap. The mount is only there to get around a little faster. It serves no other function. I'll only use it when I am forced to go back to the same location for like the 8th time.

the horse animations don't bother me I will hardly use them anyways since you can't hear party banter while riding them

What I want to know is what happens to the rest of the party when you, the Inquisitor, gets in a mount. Do the rest have there own mount for example, Iron Bull could have a bronto as a mount or Varric could have a giant nug as a mount? Or, do the companions just disappear into the landscape until you get off your mount? What happens to them?

From the latest stream related with raptr charity, the character you select from the party gets the mount and the others just disappear until you dismount or get dismounted. What I want to know is what happens to the rest of the party when you, the Inquisitor, gets in a mount. Well that's disappointing, I had actually gotten my hopes up about seeing Iron Bull riding his own decorated bronto.
Edit: Actually, how do they disappear? Do they run off into the bushes or over the hills or do they vanish into thin air?

They said that companions disappear when you get on a mount months ago.

Did they? Well to be fair, months ago, I wasn't keeping myself up to date on all things Dragon Age.

All other party members will disappear except for the one you had active, right after you called for the mount.

They better make separate animations for the male and female horses otherwise preorder canceled and I'll write negative reviews about the game on metacritic.
Ah.. i see what you did there
sarcasm right?

Assassins creed did it very well with the horse animations as well. But yes I agree, it looked really off... then again, I wont be using the mounts. I want to see and feel my surroundings as much as possible.

Actually, they disappear right after you get onto it. Party members return right after you get off.
The reason being is that mounts run into view and don't leave from it, you need to walk away from them for them to disappear. If your party vanished after they were only called, you'd only be able to get them back by walking away from where you dismounted, which could have the awkward problem of you running into enemies to try and get your party to appear. Likewise, if you accidentally called a horse in the midst of a battle, your entire party disappearing would be insta-death.

I think the horse animations looked great... but then again the last game I played that had horseriding in it was Skyrim. ![]()
Still, I really like them. No complaints from my side. ![]()

If I can ride my mount up a 90 degree slope, I'll be happy.

The horse animations aren't as bad as in Skyrim (just about everything in that game is bad or mediocre, how could it sell so well?
), but the horse animations in e.g. assassin's creed or red dead redemption are indeed much better than what we have seen in DA:I.

This. And even then I might not use it at all to be honest. If they would give the party members horses too, then I would consider it.
I'm still bitter that there are 30 mounts in this game while there's other things that should be getting more attention (hairstyles, casual outfit).
