I agree, and I would really prefer it be a companion. I have to admit that I really dislike non-companion romances for the simple fact that I like to go everywhere with my LI.

 

I feel like Varric would have been perfect, but Bianca gets in the way. *sigh*

Yea, I was holding out hope it would be him or Blackwall--so the announcement of Blackwall truly wasn't a huge disappointment.  Didn't have any interest in romancing Vivienne.  I can understand why not Varric, Bianca so much a part of his characterization I can't imagine him without her, but I hope the Inquisitor can at least find out who the original Bianca was and why she is so important to him.

Really the only thing I would change is having two people to be male race locked to balance it out but seeing as Leliana is bi, Varric is heterosexual, and Cole is out that would only leaves Vivienne so yeah.

They may have some conversation or even quest to do with Bianca in DAI, but I know one of the comics goes into his backstory with her a little bit (and there is a picture of her). I haven't read it, but I saw a pic on the wiki, I believe.

Nah, I'm pretty happy with the options we have. I guess if I could add more I'd add Varric as a dwarf female only romance so we could finally get a dwarven romance (while staying as faithful to Varric's character as possible).

Goes against the OP's set "rules" but...Mine would be: 

 

Who you can romance

-Cassandra --> Males only --> Qunari and Human only

-Josephine --> Bisexual

-Cullen --> Male only --> Human and Elf (He was still in the closet in DAO and DA2...)

-Sera --> Females only (I'd make her Bi if I wasn't sure people would take out the pitchforks and torches... )

-Solas --> Bisexual

-Dorian --> Males only

-Vivienne --> Males only --> Human and Elf only

-Blackwall --> Female only

-Dalish Elf Female ---> Male only ---> Elf only

-Tal-Vashoth Qunari Female ---> Bisexual --> Qunari only

 

4 straight, 3 gay, 3 bi romances.

 

Who you cannot romance

-Cole (He's mentally a child)

-Leliana (Possibly romanced by Warden or if not, devoted herself to the Maker)

-Varric (Only has eyes for Bianca)

 

Who is race-gated

I like viviennes character but she doesn't smoke my chimeny at all so I couldn't even roleplay in a romance with her. As it stands I think the default list bioware came up with is pretty good although I would set varric to be romancable by women and by men since he seems to be a favorite and honestly i'd try him out too

 

The other main change I'd make is to make Leliana romancable again. I was really let down when they locked her out, just because she had a fling in origins, although I get why.

 

Let's see... I hate cullen, don't care much for blackwall, cassandra's great as is, sera as cool as heck but I'm planning on rolling with a female character for hers dorian doesn't tickle my pickel and Jose is already bisexual. Iron bull is.. well, a qunari, and the horns and giant pecs creep me out.

I made this post on tumblr a long while back, but essentially what I would have done is you could romance anyone, within certain conditions.

 

Taken from my tumblr June 13, 2014:

 

"I really hope Bioware’s thing for DAI is everyone is romancable, under these conditions.

 

So, technically, there are more LIs than any Bioware game ever, but you cannot possible have all of them as an option for each character you have.

 

So like, Cullen only likes female mages (brother has a type, has for two games now, why break tradition?). Varric only likes dwarves of either gender. Solas only likes elves. Vivian likes everyone but elves, because she’s Orleasian and elves are low-class peasants. Iron Bull likes everyone but dwarves, and that’s not that he doesn’t think they’re cute, it’s just he’s mostly worried he’ll break them.

 

Blackwall only likes girls. Cassandra only likes boys. Sera only likes girls. Dorian likes everyone.

I was wrong about a lot of it, but that's still what I would have done. In retrospect, I would make Josie and Leliana both romanancable (keeping Josie as bisexual) and making Leliana only available if not romanced in DAO, or if the Warden is dead.

Im kinda cool with most of the romance options, but two of them I'd change in a heart beat. I'd drop Solas and Cullen (the two characters that I really don't like), and have Varric and Vivienne (the two characters I wanted most)

The only changes I would make is swap Vivienne for Solas and then have Vivienne and either Cullen or Blackwall romanceable by both males and females. To me, a 4-4 gender split and 1-2-1 sexuality for each gender would have been ideal.

Well, glad you all didn't get ahold of the romances, lol. I'd be very sad not to be able to romance Solas! The only change I would make is make Blackwall bi, but regardless of what we wanted or would have done, this thread seems somewhat pointless and will only grow envy or anger towards other players wants/ opinions.
