It's class specific.
Mages have a book.
Rogues have a lockpick set.
Warriors have a horn.

It has sandpaper inside and he uses it to sharpen his horns before charging, semi-confirmed.
Warriors get the Horn of Gondor?
I'm fine with it.
But then why is the Qunari Mage wearing it?
Maybe the horn is universal then and we just can't see it on the female human mage.

I've been asking myself this question.
I completely understand that it is not technically possible to replicate a facial appearance from one engine to the next through mere savegame data, but that our choices are not automatically being added in the Keep when selecting our characters from previous games? That makes the entire exercise of importing anything into the Keep completely pointless.
Color me confused.
I get the usefulness of the Keep in creating a sustainable world state.
I do NOT get how pointless it is to import a previous character when all choices have to be selected in the Keep anyway
It's so all the codex entries talking about your Hawke and Warden use the names you picked instead of default names.
Also... SPOILERS!

But then why is the Qunari Mage wearing it?
Because he isn't a mage. People are assuming that is a staff, I believe it is an axe that has been shown in previous screens, it is hanging upside down on his back and the spiked ball thing is just the bottom of the haft of the axe, not a staff.

I guess thats a good point.
Its just that I have never seen an axe in DA before that had the spiky ball of the mage staff.

It needs the game now!
I didn't find it all that spoilery, but maybe it is for other people.
But what I find really cool (though it's not something my good guy inquisitor will often do) is that we can
