I know that Valve, Microsoft and Sony take a 30-40% cut of all sales on their consoles.  I know it doesn't matter hugely, but I'd like most of my purchase to go towards EA and BioWare, who actually, y'know, made the game.  What method of purchase do they get the largest cut from?

You'd have to purchase DAI from Origin on PC. The EA-run digital download service.

I'll probably end up doing that then.  I don't think that's going to be a very popular route overall though.  :P

Not likely as PC is the minority platform. Most will purchase the game either on a Microsoft or Sony platform. That's okay though. PC is number one. :)

So the chances of us seeing DA:I on steam is... none? :(

PC as Origin is directly to EA and Bioware. There's no licensing fee to pay to Microsoft or Sony.

That's correct. You will not find any game published by EA on Steam beyond the year 2010. Origin is the only place you can go to play EA-published titles.

Buying through origins for pc most likely or the CE version of the game.

Origins means the money all of it goes directly to EA and since bioware is part of ea, that means it helps bioware the most.

Well save for the tax part and such.

Just my two bits.

Pretty much.  Like I said, Valve take a large cut out of every Steam purchase.  It just don't make sense for EA (or Ubisoft with uPlay) to let another company run them over like that.

I think they'll be happy no matter what version you buy.

Considering that DA3 requires Origin and is only available digitally through Origin, I believe it'll be a fair bit more "popular" than you might currently think.

It doesn't matter at all for consoles, since the royalty is paid per unit produced, not sold. And retail is a wholesale business, so it also doesn't matter where you purchase it from (EA already got their money when they sold to the retailer).

Origin by far - it's ~100% profit except for the bandwidth. There's no retailer taking a cut and no packaging / physical distribution to pay for.

With that in mind, it's odd that Origin isn't more competitive on price. You'd think they'd want as many people as possible to buy direct from them rather than pushing them away to other retailers.

That's what really really baffles me, they basically punish anyone that wants to give them as much money as possible, because he will be paying at LEAST 10 dollars more on Origin.

TBH I don't care what part of the money goes to whom. Important is, how much money is in my pocket.

Since retailer, physical boxed version is cheaper 20% then this is no brainer for me. Sorry Origin.

Maximise price gouging by purchasing from the region that gets the most shafted and you'll be gold.

New Zealand gets that as its default setting.  100+ bucks for a game here.

Yep, there was a dispute about how DLC should be sold and EA just pulled all their games as a result. They created Origin from the previous EA download manager programme.

Pretty much.  Like I said, Valve take a large cut out of every Steam purchase.  It just don't make sense for EA (or Ubisoft with uPlay) to let another company run them over like that.

If the people on my former ME3MP list are anything to go by, people only use Origin to play a game. I certainly don't stay logged into Origin to do nothing, there's no reason to. Whether Steam makes sense is a marketing decision, where one has to ask themselves if the cut Valve takes is worth the exposure to a larger and more persistent audience. An indie game for example would never sell very well on Origin, but being greenlit and making the front page on Steam is a godsend. EA are powerful enough to market their own games so Steam is not important to them.

Which method of purchase supports BioWare the most?

Likely on Origin.

But you should enjoy the game on the format that works best for you.

If you feel so obliged then pick up a few Platinum packs in DAMP.

I know people who did that whenever a new free ME3 MP DLC came out (and to pick up a few new characters earlier of course).

I don't want to give Bioware my money.  I would rather give Bioware my money than Amazon/Microsoft/Sony/Valve, however.  And I don't have any particular preference for format.

Whatever supports EA the most supports Bioware the most.
