Also feel free to just send us a bunch of blank cheques, your credit card and PIN, and any property deeds you'd be cool parting with.

what do I have to sell for a future dwarf romance?  I am willing to give my body for it

Buying through origins for pc most likely or the CE version of the game.

Origins means the money all of it goes directly to EA and since bioware is part of ea, that means it helps bioware the most.

Well save for the tax part and such.

Just my two bits.

Do games manufacturers still get large tax breaks if they are based in Canada?

Depends where. Quebec still does, I think Ontario does, not sure if BC does anymore.

So AB doesn't get a tax break then. That's a shame.

Yeah not that I'm actually aware of. Though tax is pretty low there so maybe operating costs are comparable.

Not likely as PC is the minority platform. Most will purchase the game either on a Microsoft or Sony platform. That's okay though. PC is number one. :)

There is nothing even close to the truth. PC is a huge majority. It doesn't apply only to US, for obvious reasons...

I know that Valve, Microsoft and Sony take a 30-40% cut of all sales on their consoles.  I know it doesn't matter hugely, but I'd like most of my purchase to go towards EA and BioWare, who actually, y'know, made the game.  What method of purchase do they get the largest cut from?

Clearly that would be PC digital download from Origin.

Bought the Digital Deluxe on Origin myself to support Bioware. That said, I'm surprised EA isn't trying harder to incentivize the option since it cuts out their middlemen.

buying the game digitally is a chore IMO.. that is, if you dont want your account flagged..

you either:

have to reduce the security of your bank/credit card to allow foreign bank processing (EA uses a swiss bank to process transactions) for that purchase.

or:

purchase an EA origin game card from best buy or other retailer.  note that you cant buy just a $60 card as you have to factor in tax as well.. so you're better off getting a $60 and a $20 card and getting the deluxe edition.

just stupid IMO.  therefore, if you dont mind physical discs.. i would recommend getting the game in store.

Bought ME3 via Origin and didn't experience this issue. IIRC I used a US prepaid visa gift card.

when did you buy ME3?  if it was at launch, it wouldnt have happened.. this only started within the last few months.  try buying ANY game that is EA/Bioware (this includes swtor game time or cartel coins) and see if your account gets flagged.  for me, this occurred with Visa Debit and Visa Credit card.  the transaction was denied when i tried via debit card.. and was successful with the credit card, but still flagged.

Hmm...I did buy it on launch day. So any origin purchase is now int'l transaction?

I've had difficulty in the past trying to buy games from GOG or GreenManGaming as they do not appear to accept US prepaid visa gift cards.

i think ANY EA/Bioware purchase is now international as this issue also occurred when buying game time in swtor and EA/Bioware games on steam.

EA do the tax dodging schemes like every other company anyway for international sales (listed in Switzerland) .

Bit OT: Why would valve budge on their cut of the sales? They arent desperate to get people to use steam and EA is apparently happy with origin,

Just an FYI just because Origin is owned by EA who also own Bioware does not mean extra money flows back into EA in any meaningful way.

the mere fact that Origin is dearer should clue you in. the origin service has it's own associated costs, these would be calculated no differently then any other platform.

the price that origin takes does not go back to Bioware and EA doesn't calculate it in "look how much money DA:I made for us"

Only the percentage after origins costs are calculated are taken into money rolling back in. (however EA will go, gee's Origin made us some nice dough this lets look at how we can maximise that platform further)

It also does not hold that buying anything from Origin/EA store net's more money for bioware. because games retailers for example buy far more games. So much so that even with their cut the sheer volume of purchases rolls in more cash then single one off transactions. Your single purchase will never compete with retailers in terms of end profit for bioware due the disparity in units sold.

So whilst more of your funds may go towards EA. Once operating costs are factored in EA would not necessarily see any extra money from the origin platform and depending on the amount of downloads, it may result in Origin suffering net losses which in turn is less money for EA and hence Bioware.

Overall if you add it up the way to give bioware the most funds will be indirectly. Find your first or second biggest physical games retailer and pre-order a copy, because you combined with everyone else who pre-orders will show huge demand for the game lending that retailer to buy far more shipments that overall outpace anything your single sale would give bioware/EA in terms of Profit and due to competitiveness, retailers also drop their per unit price again making money on volume, saving yourself a buck as well.

Origin would give more cut per copy sold to EA and Origin is large enough that operating costs would be negligible.

Special editions probably have a nice markup on them as well, but that money goes to retailers.

For reference, i doubt any of the money actually goes back to Bioware directly. EA own them, they decide when and how much money they get from sales. They might get bonuses for metacritic scores or sales milestones.

Number of sales is probably nearly as important.

None of it goes directly to Bioware.  EA takes it, and Bioware may get a bonus depending on total sales.  So it doesn't matter where you buy it, or even how much you pay for it.

I'm buying my copies through Gamestop, since the Inquisitor's Edition is exclusive to them. They are also having a midnight release at my local store, so I ordered a Deluxe copy of DAI to play right away. All my game guides and art books come from Amazon.

Bottom line: make your purchases through a legitimate retailer and EA/BioWare will get the funds that are due them. :)

PC is number one. :)

That's your opinion, and very debatable ;)

Anyway, like everyone else said: PC. I'll be grabbing mine on PS4 though. Pre-load unlocks on PSN midnight EST. So since I'm pacific time, I get to play it 9pm PDT :D
