I've just started playing, and (to avoid spoilers) I'm just gonna say this is my first real mission after completing the first few pre-game missions.
Currently, I think the combat is a bit uninteresting... your characters attack your enemies, and there's little influence you can have over how well they perform. What is there to look forward to?
I'm going to guess that you don't play a mage.
I chuckled at the title of this at first, but you do seem sincere in your concerns. I would suggest either holding out until you pick up a mage, or replaying as a mage. A huge problem with combat in this game is that running sustainables is, generally, more powerful than using activated abilities. You can avoid this by either playing a less efficient character (for instance, I found rogue much more engaging when using stuns and what have you, even though it is less damage than setting him on auto-pilot) or by playing a mage, which depends much less on sustainables (except for Arcane Warriors).
If you are already playing a mage and aren't enjoying the combat, then no, it doesn't get much more interesting.

How can there be pre-game missions... do you mean buying and installing the game? I suppose thats a pre-game mission.
It won't be spoiling anything if you tell us where you are. Saying I'm in Ostagar or the dwarf city is no spoiler...
But this is a 40 f*in hour long RPG... at the least. 100+ at the most!
Of course combats gonna be lame at the start, you have no moves, you have no abilities, you just hit enemies. When you have a hot bar half full of moves from knocking people over with a smash to the face to making people living bombs... then you have room to talk.
Have little influence over how well they preform? Actually you have full influence over how they preform. In every way. You control them... not to mention you can set up tactics which tells them what to do in a specific situation.
You won't like the ending.
It's really boring considering all the hours you spend in combat with the archdemon...not to mention the rest of the game. I thought there would be more interaction once I finished the game to shape the consequences of my earlier actions in the game.
BTW...KOTOR 3 looks really stupid !!! Graphics suck!!!
They are actually going for the cartoon look...bad move guys. I expect the equivalent of Mass Effect graphics in a Star Wars game in the year 2010.

There is way way more to this "game"(using that sparingly), than combat.
As you progress further into it you'll understand, as for the combat mechanics, well, I've never played one of these interactive type games, I just mashed and mangled my way thru, until I got the hang of it.
And spending some time in the forums trying to understand how "stuff" works.

Once you get into the game, you have a TON of control over the way your party responds...IF you want it.
You get more and more tactics slots as you level up and as you get tactics slots you can program them. By the end of my last play through, each character had 12. You set them up however you want according to what you want your strategy is and they do what you've told them.
Also, I apologize for all the people who are being a little harsh. I think they're taking what you're saying the wrong way.
You're obviously not a troll, and I think you're asking a legitimate question. There are lots of helpful people around who know more than me who will probably answer your question way better than I did! Good luck, and I hope the game wins you over!
Indeed I think the first thing people need to know about this game ..is that there is a learning curve, perhaps start out on easy mode til you learn how things happen. Then switch to normal. Most of all you need to have a strategy of your own set up, don't rush into a room (if you can help it) ..instead plant your team with the hold button...get your PC or one other say a rogue, to go in the room and exit...you'll draw possibly four or five of the say 15 in the room, those are manageable. Kill those, save, rinse repeat til the room is empty.
Also for mages, use the glyphs, paralyze, and the knockback one. Those are perfect for planting in doorways, while either they are getting paralyzed or knockedback, your range characters, (mages, archers) can pick them off.
It takes awhile to get familiar with these things, but once you do, you'll be breezing along with no problems. Tactics AI is very helpful...I get my team members to protect each other during battle.

Haha, I took a look at the tactics screen, and was terrified at the long list of options I could choose from, so I just left every party member with their default tactics.
By the pre-game missions I mean the one that, erm, sets you off.
It's my first time in the Korcari Wilds, and my first time with four party members... just past the very beginning of the game, I think.
Ah you mean the Origins..the starter.

Either you like it or you don't. There is no amount of convincing someone can do to make you like the game. This is your own opinion, others are different.
I agree 100%.
I don't believe it's possible to convince anyone to like the game or any game for that matter. Either the person does or doesn't. Each person makes decisions based on individual and personal criteria with a different order of priority.

I'll be honest with you and tell you the real deal on combat in this game. If you want it to be difficult and make you have to think go find the addon that increases the games difficulty and install it. Than make sure you spec your characters the worst way possible. Than play the game like you are an ignorant moron and just run head long into packs of mobs setting everyone on one mob at a time.
If you do this you have a 50/50 chance of making the game difficult and the fights interesting. However, if you choose to play smart and use tactics you would have to be brain dead to fail at this game. So basically this game is all about the story and consequences and not really a lot to do with the combat that is in game. If you wanted a tactical combat game there are planty out there listed under the STRATEGY section. RPG's today don't have tough combat anymore simply because the biggest group with the cash that spends on these games cannot be bothered to think for themselves anymore.

So what? I have a thing for nugs, is that so wrong now?
If I did indeed prefer Schmooples over Leliana (which I dont!) and would rather have him join e in my tent instead (which I never did!) and develope a close relationship with a hairless pig-bunny-rat-mole-creature (Which I haven't!) What would be so wrong with that HUH!?!11!!!oneone
I didn't do it!
