See he looks strange. And in the new stream they did today where they used the Dwarf he had the same strange look. Maybe it was this Dwarf they were using? They just do not look as up to snuff as everything else we have seem...
I think it's the eyeshadow. It's not the most flattering color on him. Makes him look a bit green around the gills. I think he needs something in a warmer color.
I thought the dwarf in the stream today was actually pretty attractive, but I agree that I'm not too keen on the dwarf in that picture.
That scar pattern makes me think of ME's husks...
The dwarf in the OP has kind of a derpy expression, but I'm sure you can avoid that in the CC.

Man.... Cameron is bad with makeup. 
Yeah, I feel it's the makeup that's at fault. And it isn't helped that much with full-face tattoos plus a silly amount of really deep scars, plus the heavy beard and hair... It's a bit overwhelming

Well, he's not exactly dashing by any means, but that particular dwarf is definitely a well-made character for what they're going for. Much better than they looked before.
I think its the ears, they are rather huge. The female dwarves have big ears too, might name my female Cadash "mouse" at least once lol.
I think it is just the mouth, one of them had an open-mouthed sort of look. I remember seeing him in a CC video and when they changed the mouth to another one it did wonders. Either way, I'm pretty sure whatever it is, you can avoid it with the right customisation.

It's (IMO) a really ugly character, but it looks far more recognizably human than before.
They look like dwarves. You have to remember that dwarves live underground, they have evolved to live underground so they aren't going to look "normal". The same goes for the Elvhen and the Qunari.
The only race you could say doesn't look normal would be human because we are human, we have a knowledge of what a human looks like and is supposed to look like.
I love how the dwarves are captured in the new engine. You can make your dwarf look more battle-hardened than anything Origins ever permitted, or if you're so inclined, make a cuter looking one.

You don't make "cute" looking Dwarves... you make rugged, you make weathered, you make hardcore motherf***ers willing to die! They must also have the biggest, bushiest beard possible.

He looks odd because of the hilariously garish make-up that's been applied to his face in order to demonstrate character customisation.

lol not with bioware's hairs. People seem to say that whenever someone looks weird, like Miranda Lawson. Bioware's characters are nowhere near photorealistic. And I think with DA2 DAI it's slightly intentionally cartoonish.
bioware sure likes to tease us with beautiful dwarf females
He looks like true medieval man and even better a true dwarf. Dwarves are rough creatures who are close to their inner beast.
