It may be, but that doesn't mean they won't leave it behind as they open up a whole new chapter in the series. Much will change, that's a given.

That doesn't mean familer aspects of the franchise will be abandon completely there will still be a sence of farimiarity.

Actually it would more surprising if the Citadel doesn't appear in the next game, its the most iconic location in the series.

There is some speculation that the next game will be largely set in unexplored regions of the Milky Way, or in a new galaxy altogether. If that turns out to be true, we might not see the Citadel at all, or it might be reduced to just a small starting area you don't return to.

Its highly unlikely that it'll be set in another galaxy altogether, the reaming 99% of the galaxy is a more feasible setting, I still think that we'll revisit the citadel at some point in the franchise were it be for a single mission or the entire game.

ME1 Citadel = Before from attack Saren and Sovereign.

ME2 Citadel = After attack of Sovereign and recontruction.

ME3 Citadel = Before attack Reapers.

Depending on the era in which the story unfolds next Mass Effect, the Citadel maybe will be the most complete.

For example:

New Citadell = ME1 Size + ME2 Wards + ME3 Wards & Interactions/quest.

Obviously, but I fully expect to leave a great many things behind that some people consider "classic" as they move forward with a brand new story.

Debatable, highly debatable, but we've already had that argument :P

Characters from the trilogy most certainly, organizations such as the Alliance, STG, justicar's etc. will defiantly be here to stay, locations at some point they'll be revisited.

I have no doubt the Citadel will feature in ME4 and will probably be a hub world, even if it's a small one. Just because new locations and regions of space are being introduced doesn't mean we can't return to the centre of galactic society.

Having said that, I personally thought the ME1 Citadel was the best. It felt like a big sci-fi space station, but it was definitely lacking in liveliness. Technology has improved though, I'm sure they could make the Presidium and the Wards feel more populated.

Also, bring the elevators back. Please.

A lot of people here are pretty unimaginative. Ditch the Citadel, start anew with something creative, expansive, and unique. From the brief concept art images, it seems like they may be doing exactly that - and I am glad. Why would anyone what to revisit the same places that we spent three games revisiting?
