EDIT: Ok, I read up a little on running at 4k, and I guess the dual 980s really are necessary. Jeez.

Yep. I wanted to stick with NVIDIA and was initially looking at the 780 Ti's. However, the 980's are actually cheaper and more energy efficient to boot so the choice was pretty clear. The 780 Ti's do slightly out-perform the 980's when overclocked though, but hey even my craziness has limits.

lol im faaar from rich I just invest well and save my money all the time. Plus i'm not going to lie that computer cost me an arm, a leg, and a few other appendages as well. But this thread is about crazy sacrifices for Inquisition and this is my dirty confession.

Come on now, it's a way to show off your awesome rig.  If I had something like that I'd be waving it around in everyone's face too! Anyone who spends $4000+ on a gaming computer and has investments is well off.  Hell I'm well off compared to most and I'm not even in spitting distance of you. :D

I have a bottle of Laphroaig Triple Wood on order at my liquor shop. You can actually taste the wood of each of the three barrels it was matured in.

I'm gonna do any and all school-work that is going to be due around that time. So the next few weeks are going to be dedicated to school stuff...no weekends out.

Heh...it's funny that DAI is making me a top notch student  :)

-Edited-

i'm guilty of wanting to show it off a bit, I guess lol. and sure it's extreme overkill but it's also a nod to Bioware for putting together an awesome game that would drive me to do something this dumb in the first place! :wizard:

I kept my PC modifications pretty chill. I can run Battlefield 4 on Ultra at 60FPS. I'll be fine. :)

I did use the rest of my sick days to have Inquisition's release week empty. I have two weeks set for Inquisition because it comes out the week before Thanksgiving break.

I also got the game on PS4 for when I travel and don't want to drag my PC everywhere.

Over the next couple weeks, I'll be stocking up on Beef Jerky, Gatorade and coupons for pizza/chinese delivery.

Think I'll actually wait until Black Friday to buy a PS4/DAI. My birthday is a few days after which is when I'll have actually have three (THREE!!!) days off...it'll be a challenge trying to stay away from the forums for a week though...

Why can't you buy it on PS4, if you were going to buy it for PC?

I mostly want to play around in the character creator, tbh... But for the full game, I would need a mod that replaces the spider models with something else. I used that for DA:O and DA2. Modded hairstyles would be good too.

Hey at least I know for a fact that my computer case is better than yours. :P

Check it out

Spoiler

Even if the insides are only rocking

CPU: 955 Be (Trying to decide between an FX8350 and a new S5 phone)

GPU: 270X (wish I'd saved more up and gotten better)

RAM: 8GB

MB: M5A97 R2.0

Your case OWNS! a comm. shep rig!? I never even thought to look up that awesomeness well played :bandit:

not totally familiar with AMD brand but i do believe that's the ever-magnificent 8-core @ 4 GHz? (my preference is obvious)

S5 looks awesome but I still have an s3 phone and am definitely not able to upgrade at this time!

And your GPU I actually had to look up just now because I was unfamiliar with it's specs but it doesn't look that bad

EDIT: It looks like your GPU outperforms the Nvidia 750 Ti by a lot, and the 750 Ti is a good card

I can run easily on high setting to ultra from what some sites are saying only thing that would slow me down is my gtx750 but even then I run titan fall on ultra and Eso on ultra and skyrim either way I all be able to run on pretty much ultra I may get anywhere between 50-60 fps

So I'm starting this thread because I want to see if there are people out there that are just as crazy as I am. The demos and trailers for Inquisition have been fueling my madness for some time now.... but the tipping point was when the PC specs were revealed. When the PC system specs were revealed for DAI, I realized that I couldn't play Inquisition the way I wanted to. So, I decided to change that.

Not going to post exact figures on here, but if you recognize these parts you'll probably get the jist of just how much money I've sunk into a new rig worthy of Inquisition (and future titles, in my defense).

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) --Overclocked

Graphics Card: 2 of EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 256bit, DVI-I, DP x 3, HDMI in SLI --Further Overclocked

Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK1 ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin

HDD: 3 of Seagate Desktop ST4000DM000 HDD 4 TB SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive 5900rpm

SSD: Crucial M500 960GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter/spacer) Internal Solid State Drive  --For OS and Inquisition

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Z PCIe Gaming Sound Card with High Performance Headphone Amp and Beam Forming Microphone

CPU Cooler: Noctua 6 Dual Heatpipe with 140mm/130mm Dual SSO Bearing Fans CPU Cooler NH-D14

Case: Cooler Master HAF X - Full Tower Computer Case with High Airflow Windowed Side Panel and USB 3.0

---Grand total of 10 fans (includes GPU ACX model fans) running passive when possible

Sound System: Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 High-Power 2.1 PC Speaker System

Monitor: Acer XB280HK bprz Black 28" 1ms 4K Widescreen LED Backlight G-sync LCD Monitor300 cd/m2 1000:1

Plus some other stuff like optical drive, power supply, mouse/keyboard, and internet card.

So, what crazy lengths have you guys gone to in order to play Inquisition the way you want? Include system builds, vacation times, "sick days", sending the wife and kids on a vacation, or anything else you can think of.

I got nearly the same system as you do. My Sig has my specs. I am taking the 18th of November off a vacation day because that is my last day of work on 4 day on and 4 day off work schedule. I still have 3 days of vacation so I am taking off the 18th, 19 and 20th of December before Christmas shutdown for my plant I work at. Which is 2 weeks.

None, really.

Inquisition was just the last drop that made the cup overflow, prompting me to purchase another PC because there are multiple new games which I can't play or don't play well on the old one.

I'm taking the Friday and Monday off work and I've convinced my husband to go visit his mum that weekend. And I've selected four of the finest local takeaways to provide sustenance. Can't wait....

I'm not taking time off from work or school, and will probably be buying the PC I need to play it the day the game comes out, and start it later in the week, which will lead into Thanksgiving break. The fact that I'm spending $1000+ on a luxury item during a time when my husband and I are in between clients is crazy enough for me!

Well I never would've payed for such extravagance, I mean that money could go towards a better CPU/GPU etc.! But hey I won the computer as part of Bioware's 15 anniversary celebration so gotta show it off :D

That CPU is a 4 core running at 3.2  I could probably overclock it easily enough but I've never been the type to futz around with that stuff.  And the 270x was a good card I just think I would've been better off waiting a few more months and either getting it cheaper or getting a better card for the same price.  Maybe get an ssd    I'd like my next upgrades to take me to the end of this computers lifespan.  Which with several part swaps over the years would mean I'd only spent ~$1000 max on a computer that last me 8-10 years at medium-Ultra settings.

Those sites lie. The 750 is a beastly card even staring in the face of the 900 series. In fact a 780 Ti can outperform the 980's easily when overclocked. So you're packing some serious rocks especially if you can run those games @ 60 FPS you're golden.

I meant the 8350 lol sorry. And your card and CPU are both more than enough right now to run on high or even ultra settings. I wouldn't recommend upgrading right now unless you're looking at 4k like I am. Although I will say that you can get 2 GTX 970's for the price of 1 980 right now and in SLI those things are total monsters. Just a thought. Otherwise even 1 970 will rip this game a new you-know-what

Probably a good time to upgrade then anyway. Especially in the face of new titles like DA:I, Shadows of Mordor and Witcher 3

Bioware has graciously postponed the game until my first day of university holidays so I don't really have to do anything. Thanks Bioware!
