Ready to play DAI bro?

squirrel3%5B1%5D.jpg

Wait...I have to be THAT ready?....Need. More. Protein....and carbs. *starts doing pullups*

My girlfriend is actually in another city with her parents the weekend of release. That's. Just. THANK THE MAKER.

My girlfriend isn't a gamer, but she'll usually just sit back and watch me play which is cool. It only sucks when she wants to go out while I'm gaming because that's the only battle I always lose no matter what I come up with...

I mostly want to play around in the character creator, tbh... But for the full game, I would need a mod that replaces the spider models with something else. I used that for DA:O and DA2. Modded hairstyles would be good too.

The chances of someone changing models in Frostbite 3 are basically 0 from what I hear anyway, so I don't think the PC version would help you there anyway. That sucks. :(

Wish I could take one whole week off.

One day will have to do... There's a holiday coming up the following weekend in my country, so there's that too.

You people are crazy! In a good way!

My PC needs some loving, I haven't done a major parts upgrade in three years and it's starting to show. If I had the cash I'd upgrade my GPU, CPU and Motherboard, but I don't at the moment so that will have to wait. In the meantime, I upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 16GB and my 500GB HDD to a 1TB SSHD. The old one was seven years old. For peripherals I bought a Razer Tartarus and will be using that for most of my gameplay, coupled with a Razer Naga Hex I shouldn't be needing a full size keyboard (unless my brain derps and I forget which keybinds are what).

I've been crunching my coursework so I'll be onto the next cluster of my course by the time the 20th rocks around. Not sure how much more time consuming it'll be but it's going to take precedence so I stay on top of what needs to be done. Distance education for the win! We're also moving town then so we'll have to take a 3hr drive each way just to pick up my copies of DA:I once it is released. I expect some serious haggling to occur in order convince someone to drive me there, but I've already checked with my mother and she's alright with it for now. Chances are we'll still be in town or at least travelling between here and the new place then anyway. Yes, copies because it's my birthday two days earlier and that's all I want. One for PC and one for XBONE. My youngest sister gets her copy of The Crew on her birthday the week earlier so she'll be distracted and less likely to nag me for anything. I'll take whatever small mercies I can get!

No significant others or friends to worry about, so my only other commitments will be family, coursework and moving.  :)

And as always, welcome to the crazy

Stocking up on snacks so I have a sugar rush to keep me going for a few days, I have 3 kids and they will be at school and after school care. I also bought myself a Cassandra hoodie and my partner an inquisitor one, it sucks we won't be able to wear them day of launch though, but I can pretend.

If I could I'd just hermit myself away but alas I do need to feed and clothe the next gen of gamers in my house or who will take up my legacy when I am gone?

Replaced my 10 year old P4 last year when it finally imploded and I have been enjoying the PC my husband bought for me with DAI in mind since then.  Not as fancy as OP's but meets recommended specs for DAI (other than my GTX 760 is only 2G not 3G) but i7 4770 at 3.4 GHz and 32 G Ram should work well.  Now saving for a PS4 so the second copy of DAI I have pre-ordered can be thrown at my husband and children so they can play and leave me alone (at least some when homework is done - we may be ordering pizza for dinner every night the first week -don't judge).

Busy season at work so can't really justify time off and my boss may be having back surgery in December so probably no vacation until late January and then it's calving season -sigh.  Sacrifices to DAI gods to heal bosses back so I can take at least a little time off in December.   It seems like my main sacrifice will be sleep.  No really, I'm fine. I managed 4 hours of sleep a night in college, I'm sure I can do it now (passes out between appointments).

And with the Vitamin D comes the snacks lol. You bought a cassandra hoodie?? That sounds pretty cool actually.

That is a very competent build you'll run DAI quite nicely on that. And I'll shed some goats for you ;)

Yeah this one:

They don't actually ship until the 20th though, which is the date it releases for me. At least my local EB games is opening at 8am that day.

I dumped some more RAM into my machine, and my husband and I ordered 2 GTX 970s. Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom, the place we ordered from I guess took more orders than they had inventory, so they're shipping us one, and the other is on backorder.

So basically it seems we're going to have to have ourselves an old fashioned knife fight on Monday afternoon to determine who gets the card. And I gotta tell you... I'm feelin' pretty plucky.

looks cool but it's funny they don't ship until actual release date.... it's not exactly a spoiler lol, like we know cassandra is in the game.

Dunno if you already straight-up purchased them or not, but this site has helped me a lot in the past.. it keeps a constant updated list of available stores selling reliable parts. You might be able to cancel a preorder and purchase the card at a different store to get it faster.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. We've been waiting for stock for a while; it's been pretty goddamned frustrating. Then earlier this week we finally thought we'd got it squared away, but noooooope. We'll watch and see, but keep the order for now (they're already paid for; we didn't know they didn't have sufficient stock until they sent a "partial shipment" notification. ****.) and just hope some more trickle in soon. In the mean time I'm going to be that petulant noble kicking the wall in the viscount's keep.

So I'm starting this thread because I want to see if there are people out there that are just as crazy as I am. The demos and trailers for Inquisition have been fueling my madness for some time now.... but the tipping point was when the PC specs were revealed. When the PC system specs were revealed for DAI, I realized that I couldn't play Inquisition the way I wanted to. So, I decided to change that.

Not going to post exact figures on here, but if you recognize these parts you'll probably get the jist of just how much money I've sunk into a new rig worthy of Inquisition (and future titles, in my defense).

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) --Overclocked

Graphics Card: 2 of EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 256bit, DVI-I, DP x 3, HDMI in SLI --Further Overclocked

Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK1 ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin

HDD: 3 of Seagate Desktop ST4000DM000 HDD 4 TB SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive 5900rpm

SSD: Crucial M500 960GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter/spacer) Internal Solid State Drive  --For OS and Inquisition

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Z PCIe Gaming Sound Card with High Performance Headphone Amp and Beam Forming Microphone

CPU Cooler: Noctua 6 Dual Heatpipe with 140mm/130mm Dual SSO Bearing Fans CPU Cooler NH-D14

Case: Cooler Master HAF X - Full Tower Computer Case with High Airflow Windowed Side Panel and USB 3.0

---Grand total of 10 fans (includes GPU ACX model fans) running passive when possible

Sound System: Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 High-Power 2.1 PC Speaker System

Monitor: Acer XB280HK bprz Black 28" 1ms 4K Widescreen LED Backlight G-sync LCD Monitor300 cd/m2 1000:1

Plus some other stuff like optical drive, power supply, mouse/keyboard, and internet card.

So, what crazy lengths have you guys gone to in order to play Inquisition the way you want? Include system builds, vacation times, "sick days", sending the wife and kids on a vacation, or anything else you can think of.

Have you built a gaming PC before? You have so grossly over-proofed your PC it's a nightmare how much money you wasted for no good reason...

Yeah the 970's and 980's have been out-of-stock for weeks. They've been flying off the shelves it's like winning the lottery to even get one right now. I'm still waiting on my 2 980's it's the last missing part of my build.

I'm fully aware of every component of my build and yes I have built PC's before. And maybe it's a gross waste of money for you, or maybe it's exactly what I'm looking for for me, hmmm? As I stated before, my end-goal is for flawless 4k gaming with the most maxed out settings possible, and not just for inquisition.

The only reason I made the comment is because you can actually do more harm than good if you try to future proof too much. SLI, for example, is a poorly supported feature. Most games don't support it because the average gamer isn't running two graphics cards, let alone two 980s superclocked. It's generally better to just have one GPU as your performance will likely be better and you won't have to worry about dealing with SLI-exclusive bugs.

It's also generally not a good idea either to over-stack on RAM. For one, there is no reason to if you are just building the PC for gaming, and it can actually hinder performance if you have too much.

For your sake though, I just hope your cooling system and your fans keep your PC's interior extremely cool. With so much overclocking, which is dangerous in itself, you are just wearing out your hardware even faster putting excessive strain on it.

I'm not trying to bash your decisions, but even with PCs, doing too much can actually harm and lessen your gaming experience. Trust me, I have experience with future-proofing too much and it had less-than-ideal results. There is a fine balance to reach.

I don't really have to go to any insane lengths to play this game. Just buy it.

Though, I will be buying stuff to build a computer to play my PC version. Creators know my laptop and old desktop can't handle it.

Well you're right on several points. SLI does not play nice with some games, though it's easy to disable SLI and run with one GPU for those games and go back to SLI for the games that support it--and with a 4k display I will need the SLI to play some of the games I want (ex: Inquisition, Shadows of Mordor, Witcher 3, and I may even go back and give Bioshock Infinite a whirl though I doubt I'll see much improvement over my old rig with that). Although G-sync should help to ease the graphics demand a little bit.

And you're right about RAM although 16 GB isn't overkill at all and it's no more than my base Windows 7 home premium edition can even utilize so I'm fine there.

And my PC is very well cooled. I have 2 dedicated intake fans and 4 dedicated exhaust fans and the CPU cooler is an absolute monster and keeps my CPU around 23c; never goes above 28c on stress testing. In truth I would have opted for liquid cooling but I'm a klutz and definitely see myself springing a leak and frying my system.

And I'm not taking your comments as bashing at all, and constructive criticism is always appreciated. But I have a purpose and a plan (even if it's mindbogglingly crazy to other people). ;)

Funny post.  The lengths I'm going through to play DA:I.

I pre-ordered and I'll be picking it up on day of release.  I'm willing to skip dessert after dinner to go pick this up at the store.  Then again, I'm not someone who eats dessert hardly ever.  In the spirit of sacrifice, I'm willing.
