I distinctly remember at one point the devs were saying that we could put a mage PC in heavy armor and a rogue in mage apparel. Is that still a thing, or was that scrapped? In DA2, I could give my rogue Hawke a low level mage robe and he'd jump, flip, and twirl around in it no problem.
If rogues and warriors can wear mage robes in DA:I and engage in combat, then I don't see the issue with combat at the ball while wearing a simple dress that is basically a modified mage robe made specifically for the ball. A simple, sleek dress would be quite appropriate. It need not be voluminous like Orlesian fashion.
Hell, in an ideal world, there would be a little scene (preferably with Vivienne) where the Inquisitor gets to choose what to wear to the ball. *BOTH* male and female Inquisitor would be able to choose between the red suit, or the simple dress. That would have been awesome.
The only reason you'll never see body sliders in DA is because of all the interaction between characters during cutscenes, such things would throw off the positioning of any static object being interacted with during said cutscenes, even non static objects like another person (hugging, kissing, touching,) would be thrown off by bodysliders.. so lets just get off of that train wreck. ![]()
I meant ball gowns right
while a gown would be interesting, It isn't the only type of dress. Having just a nice but stylish and elegant dress, which shouldn't be much different from mage robes anyways would be fine but tis just me.
Hm, not as bad as I expected.
Although I wish the females could at least wear something akin to mage robes if it's the combat animations paired with a dress that are so troublesome.

A pretty high price to pay for the "cinematic experience", imho - but then, I'd rather play a character myself than watch that character go through whatever voicing and animation has been cooked up for them, anyway.
On topic: I think an authoritative military dress uniform is the only reasonable choice for the inquisitor. S/he is representing that role, not entering a beauty pageant.

Yes.
Boohoo.
Why not something simple and elegant like this? Is it so different from constructing mage robes?
Not to mention, Marjolaine wore a dress in combat with us in DA:O! Why can't we wear something like that?

I could be wrong, but I thought for formal military events, the women were allowed to wear dresses instead of their uniform?
I like the uniforms look, I just can't picture a Qunari in human attire. Now if you were playing a human, no problem. Oh well, it's not REALLY a big deal.
Many of us would be more than happy with a long, straight, robe-like dress such as Anora or Isolde wore rather than a men's uniform.
Yeah, I meant exactly this.

I wonder about that too... And never expected or will expect this:
But not having an option to wear one of these dresses is just crazy:

Considering that the MotA party outfit was what we got when BioWare decided to whip up a unique outfit for the occasion, I'm not sure why I'm surprised we got the outfit we did. ![]()
I keep chanting "DLC, DLC, DLC" like it's some sort of healing spell at this point. Give the artists some time to work on ball gowns please BioWare!

Oh I know.
I actually liked the detailing on the city elf wedding dress!
And the chartreuse with the red skirt on the left is lovely as well!

That one was really nice. Soris clothes looked good on females too.
And we all know devs reused some of the meshes form previous DA titles. I swear I've seen a screenie of an elven woman wearing Bethany's circle robes (but coloured differently). Have to find it. And hey, Elegant in DAII is wearing basically Anora's dress, isn't she?
Unless there is an option to choose an outfit to all the gender, no, I do not want my character to use a dress. It is bad enough that I have to stomach the hips animations.
But but... I want dress. ![]()

I only did the main quests in DA2, so I don't know much about it. But I totally get your point.
Also, if the problem is with leg animations, just give us a low-high skirt!
This is way more detailed than I would ever ask for, but it would totally work!

Found it.
Shepard had a nice dress in ME2, with the release of that one Kasumi DLC, sadly ruined by a jarring neutral animation during conversation with Mr Edgy (Garrus) where she'd awkwardly sit with her legs crossed, thus Pandora's Box would open. Although it was nice looking but then it was sadly switched out with an awful looking one in ME3. It would be neat to get something akin to it for female characters.

Hopefully I can dress up like this for the ball. Hopefully.

Josephine is actually wearing something slightly similar in design. Vivienne's robes could work too I suppose. But apparently these are too fabulous for Inquisitors. That makes me sad.
Elegant is here (skip to 1:38) as well as Anora's dress:

Nope

I'm sorry but I would like some choice here. This is Orlais , the height of fashion in Thedas! You are expected to dress to impress! And you're telling me my powerful and influential Inquisitor has a choice between a mud-brown outfit and a spare uniform from an extra of Les Miserables? Look, I understand if other people like it. Especially if you are role-playing as someone practical and professional but what if I wanted to play an inquisitor that likes a bit of flair? If I can make my castle fashionably Orlesian then I'd like to be able to dress that way too. It doesn't have to be a big monstrous dress either, just a a slim dress! Maybe even a mask too! *sigh* I'm so jelly of Morrigan right now

I mean look at that dress! It's GORGEOUS! Why couldn't we wear what the other NPCs are wearing?
