Are the males larger than DA2's I didn't get that impression. I don't see why size should correlate closely with whether or not you're raised for combat anyway.

The reason it bugs me, personally, is that Rasaan was a priestess, so her non-buffness was acceptable.

A female Qunquisitor was a mercenary. Maybe mages wouldn't have bulging biceps, but I'd expect a warrior or rogue to be better muscled.

Honestly, I'm not sure what bothers me more - the female qunari or elves. Female elves look so noodly! :D

Rasaan was ridiculous, she was just a typical comic book babe. The inquisitor we're getting looks like Brienne of Tarth

I only did the main quests in DA2, so I don't know much about it. But I totally get your point.

Also, if the problem is with leg animations, just give us a low-high skirt!

Spoiler

This is way more detailed than I would ever ask for, but it would totally work!

That's pretty cool, I could definitely go for a high top front.

...........

Similar situation to the Skyhold hooplah. They just didn't seem to anticipate that we would want to customize our characters this much. It's a real shame. I hope there's discussion in-game about why the inquisitor has to wear such an icky uniform, and I hope we have the option to express distaste (or pleasure, as the case may be).

.......

Just have to say I'm feeling the same.  I really hope that if we are stuck with that uniform we can kick up a bit of a fuss for having to wear it, it might take a bit of the sting off.

I don't mind them sharing the same outfit so much, but I hope they've altered it to suit the femquisitor's body. There have been a couple of times with other protags where the outfit looked ill-fitting. The MotA outfit for example made her look like she has really wide shoulders, and Malolm's Bouquet (Viscount outfit) looked really weird around the torso, like it was meant for male Hawke's muscles.

The Qunari males are easily more that twice as bulky and muscular as the male humans and nearly as big as IB. I had hoped the female Qunari would match that ratio and be more than twice as bulky and muscular as a female human but she's not anywhere close to that. It looks like they just made her slightly chubbier and with a slightly smaller bust proportion-wise.

Besides, it's a fantasy game, why couldn't I have had a big Bertha if males got to have a giant beef mountain character? :(

I cant answer why.. however I can point out that else where there is a discussion about why we couldn't have neutral walking animation for both sexs, or the option to choose between more than one. This is similar to that, where others might think bioware failed on the walking animations, this is the one time they walked the middle road, by making the female qunari larger than say the concept art gave the impression of, she can be used as a neutral gauge for whatever type of class you pick for her, warrior, rogue or mage. I can't really express it any other way. You're not Big Bertha but you aren't a giant grey female Draenei either. We have to take the little that they give us. As for the male Qunari, well like I said he isn't Iron Bull, but while still beefy it's generally the only way to express male points of sexual attraction (well to the women that like big buff dudes anyway.)

While I am grateful for that, I'm disappointed that they played it too safe.

The problem is that the qunari seem to be the only ones with extreme cases of sexual dimorphism.

Winch is a thing that I hate in general since it is deeply connect is gender stereotypes. It makes no sense to make all the races close to its male counterpart and than comes the qunari and you notice a huge difference. They should at least be more buff than male humans, it makes no sense otherwise.

Also I still do not know how the female dwarf is fairing, since it is kind difficult to see, I will reserve my judgement for the game. In the end is all about having options, if I want to play a male more slim, you can chose elven but if I want to play a female more buff, there is nothing.

I am also surprised by how the female qunari turned out.

Throughout the DA series, the male qunari have always appeared big and muscular. I figured that was just a trait of the species (like how dwarves are always stout). But seeing the female qunari, I am left with the impression that the males are simply bodybuilders. In other words, they must work out like crazy to build up their musculature.

Even if females are typically placed in administrative/business roles, that really doesn't explain why a female inquisitor is so slim. The qunari inquisitor is someone who has lived outside Qunari society. More than that, you are a mercenary. Why is the male so physically imposing and the female so.....average-looking?

In my opinion is more a problem that comes from some personal bias in some cultures, making women figures physical imposing is somehow forbidden. People seem to be ok with slim, fat, muscular, short, high, hairy and hairless male characters but the opposite is not true.
For example FemShep has no excuse to be so slim, female nords from Skyrim, female norns from GW2.... and so on. Although GW 2 at least has charr and asuras well done but they are not really humanoids per se. You also have some excpetions like Dragon's Dogma.

For once I really would like to have a choice in the matter, sigh. I just hope female dwarves are at least more buff than the qunari, at least elves are still slim.

Even in the Qun female Qunari would build up a certain level of physical strength or at least those of the crafting jobs such as blacksmiths, a laborers who work on building houses and ships, and other large structures. Regardless, the idea that you need or would have huge bulging muscles from simply swinging a sword or axe is ridiculous, most warriors from period such as these are not body builders in fact the typical body builder would look a freak of nature to such people because the knowledge of building and chisling such muscles just didn't exist back then. People who daily lifted heavy objects repeatedly were the ones who grew bigger muscles, and guess who does that more so within the Qunari society? The women likely, regardless though the fem quisitor is, she isn't danity, she isn't twiggy, she is whatever you pick her to be and based on that choice her life style or occupation doesn't directly infer what her physical body should be like. She's strong enough to pick up a 6 lb sword, that's strong enough to cut someone with it.

It sucks that this viewpoint is so prevalent. With four different races, you'd think it be okay to give us a large, intimidating female qunari.

I have no problem with what you're saying. My issue is, for whatever reason, the male qunari is very huge. He looks like a bodybuilder; not just someone who is physically fit, but someone who lifts weights to increase their muscles. From your standpoint, he is uncommonly huge.

If you're going to make the male qunari look like a WWE wrestler, then why not the female qunari as well?

It's disappointing, yes, but I'm not surprised. I feel like fancy clothes is BioWare's least favorite thing to do, like they save it for last and do a bad job because they hate doing it so much. I don't see why they can't use the same basic form as a mage's robe and just decorate it differently from there.

I haven't heard anything along those exact lines but I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption.  Both the female and male Quizzy have been shown wearing it and it has been confirmed that there are no dresses (they said something along the lines of it being hard to animate its movements), so it doesn't leave much wriggle room.

Leliana is also wearing a matching uniform, so it seems to suggest it even further.  I suppose it's possible there might be a range of uniforms to choose from and Leliana matches you accordingly, but I personally doubt it.

I may be alone with this but i was planning to play a boyish femquisitor, and seeing the screenshots with the short-haired lady in that 100% masculine uniform fits what i wanted perfectly

I play games like this multiple times so not being given a choice in something is really distressing to me no matter how much that thing fits with one of the characters I play, it will clash with others.

IF this is indeed the case for the female Inquisitor to wear that ghastly outfit, then I am disappointed. I for one would like the option to change into an outfit of my choosing, not some uniform that looks like something a Disney prince would wear.

Remember when your Champion no matter male or female had to wear that hideous purple attire when you met the Duke in Dragon Age 2 expansion? Developers seem to forget wearing an outfit of your choosing to special events like this should be the player’s choice. Granted this is not Skyrim, but at least in that game going to a speical party I was able to choose what I wanted my character to wear.  Maybe we are wrong and we can choose what to wear and this is the default outfit….at least I have my fingers crossed that is the case.

If not....Disney Age: Inquisition

:P

I hope there will be a mod that can change this uniform for armor. Because armors from what I have seen so far can be really more fiting and beautiful than this. :P And yes, I'm aware that this could no be possible. Still, I'm hoping. :)

Bioware, why? Just why? I no get pwetties? :( You mean!

In all seriousness though, this sucks. Even if animating a dress was that problematic, they could have come up with something more feminine than that! You also shouldn't be wearing the same thing as other members of the Inquisition because you are the Inquisitor! You should stand out from the others because you are the one in charge. Not to mention, the social travesty that is showing up to an Orlesian ball in....that. *shudders* It's an insult. Just toss your drink in the face of everyone else there! How dare you have the audacity to undermine the importance of such an event with your complete lack of respect?! What the frack?!

I feel especially sorry for Leliana. Poor thing would have loved to dress up for this, and they made her go to such an elegant event in drab. Such an embarrassment. She'll never get to have pretty feet again. I'ma hafta buy her the prettiest shoes I can find to make up for it. ;)

Just imagine if you coulda taken Leliana and Vivienne to this, both decked out with the fanciest pwetties they could get their lovely hands on. If your Inquisitor was also female, coulda been the best girls' night out ever! And you woulda all been so fab! If you're Inquisitor was male, you'd get to arrive with the two loveliest ladies at the ball. B) 'Tis a win-win is it not?

Well, I'm rather glad for my Dalish Inquisitor, who would want nothing to do with Orlesian frippery. Not that I'm saying that it shouldn't have been an option, but the only fancy dress I'd want to wear is the extremely scandalous one I came up with myself.

Hey, you wanna go scandalous, I say you should be able to. It would be especially funny to see the reactions of all the snooty Orlesians. Heck, I would have had to picked that option at least once had they provided it. Would go great with the hip animation too.

My bad. A better example would be to look at professional weightlifters, like the ones you see competing in the Olympics.
