i was simply commenting that being feminine does not make someone less commanding, focused as a leader, or impending. a walk toggle would also be awesome in a patch. it's all about how people picture their characters and only offering a masculine or feminine option severely limits that.

Right, a dress would not rule out FemQuisitor as a capable leader, I was just saying that her wearing that men's outfit certainly does give off a powerful impression.

It makes a huge statement.  For me, it is good.  The problem is that the game is making that statement for you, whether you like it or not.

I've seen dresses and gowns that make me go wow she looks like she could lead a country to war and go shopping with her friends afterward. Queens wore dresses all the time but people didn't think they weren't powerful because they wore a dress.

There are so many npcs that I have seen in screenshots and trailers and live streams that have perfectly animated dresses. I don't understand why they couldn't allow us to have one even Morrigan has one..... MORRIGAN!!!! :(

Morrigan isn't a customizable character

I know but I feel like if they can give the NPCs dresses it can't be that much harder to give PCs some aswell. Granted I'm not a game developer but I still feel like it can't be that hard. (Just my opinion)

Like Mike said, if was easy they would have done it

A dress (and possibly a ball gown) would be difficult to animate, especially what some of us know about the ball

I'm just grumpy that they could have given us a feminine version of the red suit if they really wanted them to look similar. Like give it the same red color, but an open neckline, maybe a jacket with a long tail so it flowed behind her.... Basically give us some details that look girly!

If I'm forced to play a girl to romance the characters I want, at least let me play a super girly one! As I've said many times, female player characters have been shown to be secondary. None of the mandatory clothing, like the ball and casual outfit, have been made with the female PC in mind. You can visually see they were made for men, then had boobs slapped on them.

I understand what happens at the ball and how that can affect the animations. I'm also aware of what mike had tweeted. I feel like he said that partly because he was aggravated at the amount of negative reactions. As an interior designer I understand when you have a client that doesn't agree with a style that you have chosen and instead you have to incorporate what the client wants, Or at least provide options. In my opinion the Devs should have taken the fans choice into consideration with the casual outfit and the ballroom outfit. They are so good about listening to the fans as is I just feel like this opportunity was overlooked. Hopefully they will still come out with a DLC that at least allows you to change both the ball attire and the casual attire. (Crossing my fingers) :D

I think it's more that many female players don't like the whole 'girly' look. At least that's what I've gathered from being on the forums. They used to have it where there were feminine versions of the armors when applied to female characters (DAO), but then people complained about it. So they took that out completely, and now, (from what we've seen so far) the female armors/outfits are the exact same as the males. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I agree that some, if not most armors should be the same for both genders. I just wish that they hadn't gone to the extreme and done this with all armors. Of course, this is just speculation, as we haven't seen all armors yet. But, it does appear to be what they have done for the casual and ball options. I wouldn't suggest that they replace the current look, as many female players would be unhappy having to be forced into something like a dress, but I wish we would have gotten the option for either gender to wear something less military-business like.

Considering what is likely to happen at the ball, I would like something like what dany targaryn is wearing. It has a bit of femininity but exudes power, authority and control.

I don't think they should replace the options either just adding more would be great the entire game is based off of customization. So when they limit the options on certain things those things stick out. Exceedingly so when it has to do with something that your PC is going to be wearing for hours on end, or when other npcs outshine your pc.

Still my favorite. You can see that the tail-coat is split too so this wouldn't cause animation issues (there appears to be tail-coats that the inquisitor can wear already).

Ha, I admit I was slightly happier with the new screenshot showing Leliana wearing the same thing so we aren't the sore thumb in the group at least. I agree though, customizing my PC to my liking may actually be the number one important thing to me. So I hate it when we are forced into doing, saying, or wearing something that does not fit them.

Given that the Inquisitor has that glowing Fade mark on their hand, you'd think our outfit's colour scheme should have been something in green?

Yeah. I posted it in another thread, but something like this outfit would have great as the female version of the outfit:

yea.

the thing that annoys me about this and the casual outfit is actually not that we can't change them. But that the marketing has been pushing "CUSTOMIZE EVERYTHING!!!". Since they been pushing that more then anything, it kind of annoys me that my casual outfit and ball attire is not customizable but my drapes are.

Yeah, it's pretty silly that we can't decide what our quizzys are wearing at the skyhold and at the ball but we can decide the color/style of our bed sheets that we never probably gonna sleep in.

I understand that some people would want a dress, and that it would be appropriate for some people's characters, but personally I'm glad that if there is only one option it's not a dress. The animation set is already going to be enough of a problem for my female characters; mandatory dress wearing might just make me decide that this is going to be another game where I'm just going to play a male character instead if I can't manage to play the sort of female character I want to play. It would make me decide that if it were applied to the general around-the-stronghold wear, but probably not for this (I don't know how long or how important this scene is, or if there's more than one such scene). Also, if it is anything resembling an official uniform, it makes sense that we can't change it.

All that said, assuming that there is no in-game reason for it to be the same thing no matter what, a choice would be quite reasonable and I am in favour of it, particularly with all the other seemingly not-very-important things that are somewhat customisable.

They should do like when you infiltrate Howe's home in DAO, the elf servant suggests wearing a guard disguise but you can choose not to. In DAI when going to the ball someone (probably Leliana or Josephine) should *suggest* that you wear something fancy but you should be able to ignore that. I want to go in armor, I don't care about orlesian customs

To me this seems to be equivalent of Shepard (of either gender) showing up a formal event in Alliance dress blues. Given that we see Leliana in the background wearing the same thing, it seems to be some sort of formal uniform representing the Inquisition.

I see it more like an uniform of your Institution too but still in a way I think it is **** up that somehow the practical clothes are always associated with males. To a point that the default it never a dress or watever to the female inquisitor and male inquisitor, they like to force only one side and it is always the male Inquisitor side. My bet is that they are probably afraid of the insecure players but than again why would the other sections of players, be stuck with it too?

Sure I totally would hate if they force a dress on my first character, the same way I hate the animations forced on my character. I think the ideal solution is to give the player the choice and not have silly restrictions on gender. I did hate FemShepard casual clothes but there were people that like it, so maybe in the future they could give people some options. Everyone likes options.

Regardless of race or gender, you are a military leader trying to stop the world from crumbling and are probably at the ball to represent your organization, doing so in a "dress" would not be appropriate, that said i have no idea why the inquisitor is at the ball or why it is held in the first place :D so well i could be wrong which wouldnt surprise me in the least
