I just remembered what the outfit reminds me of.
The suits that are painted on nutcrackers.

oh god, no! what have you done?! i can't un-see. xD

and it probably is a uniform. it's just that it's a bit disheartening that the default is almost always masculine. if it was reversed, i feel as if though there would be an uproar. (not even a dress, just more feminine in nature) if a dress is impossible, offering the option of a more feminine version along with the other still would have been great. i think a lot of people were looking forward to the ball, or a party quest, because they could essentially wear something extravagant. : )
good points everyone! it's cool to see your opinions, and i'm sorry for those who are disappointed. hopefully there will be more choices added in the future. and thank you all for being respectful so far!
There might be fighting at the ball and that's probably why there are no ball gowns. Trying to fight in one of those would be awkward animation wise and it would look pretty funny too.
But then again im incredibly biased and really like the formal wear.

That's a good point. Maybe the Venatori (or whomever), make an attempt on Celene at the Ball. Or on the Inquisitor.

This is a really good point, actually. I guess I never thought of that. I still wish it would have been something at least a bit "costume-like" with a traditional mask.

There is also the fact that we may be dancing with Celene or someone else of importance, and two dresses dancing might make animations hard as well.

Ball gowns look hard enough to put on trying to wear armour under that would be uncomfortable. I also don't think an assassin will wait for you to get changed... unless they are really polite assassins.

It's seems to be the attire of the inquisition, like it's they're formal uniform? it looks fine, stop nitpicking everything, personally i couldn't care less, but i really do think tiny things like this get discussed way to much, and way to much thought gets put into it.
It's formal wear, you are a leader, a soldier and some say a herald, a dress would seem out of place, plus a doubt a girl swinging big axes want to wear dresses
(god i just realized i now and writing far to much on this matter, goodbye)
I don't like how this uniform looks on femquisitor at all. I will probably change my mind, when I see it in game, but so far i plan to play that scene with my eyes shut or skip it (Esc is my friend). It's embarrassing and I hate when any game makes me feel like that.

Just to ask is there maybe any pics of the female inquisitor ?.we only see one female in the outfit but only from what I can see is just the male inquisitors.im just saying it may be a tad bit early to jump to conclusions ,I could be wrong and by no means it wouldn't be a first I'm just saying.
There is this one and now that we've seen the male Quizzy in the same outfit we can pretty much safely say this is the female Quizzy.

Exactly, I am the leader. As the leader if I want to wear a damn dress I should be able to.

Fair point.
Still from what I've seen of the armour, there have been some fairly elaborate designs, some including what look like long trench-coat looking things. If they can fight in that I think a dress (even if a simple one) should be doable. Obviously by this stage it is faaaaaar too late to be changing anything, I just wish they'd taken other avenues into consideration. I think I even could have settled for a more feminine version of what we have, as it is, it is pretty much a carbon copy of the male version.
Ahh well though, I never thought I'd say this, but fingers crossed for some DLC lol. ![]()
Okay, so since Femquisitor is indeed wearing the exact same outfit as ManQuisitor to the ball ( I thought there were differences at first, but upon closer inspection they are exactly the same, and plus Leliana is also wearing it apparently), the fact that she is wearing men's formal wear, to me, sends a sort of message. She's making an appearance here as leader of the Inquisition. She's less concerned about primping and wants to represent the Inquisition. She's in no-nonsense apparel.
This impression that I get would work extremely well for the badass, no-nonsense military female that I would ideally want to play as if I make a female PC. This men's apparel is something that she would totally wear.
However, the lulzy part that will utterly ruin the effect is the fact that Femquisitor will still exhibit the sex walk when you move her around the ballroom outside of cutscenes despite wearing this men's suit. Lmao.
Exactly, it proves that that was never the intent of Bioware. The runway walk in the middle of combat is more inappropriate than a dress in a ballroom could ever be. And I think even in your scenario it only makes sense to wear a uniform if they were attending for political rather than social reason.
Godfuckingdamnit
MODDERSSS HALP HAAALP!
We are soldiers of the Inquisition. Soldiers usually wear dress uniform to society functions, especially when they are invited BECAUSE they are soldiers.
I think its a shame we can't choose to wear what we want but it makes perfect sense from a narrative perspective. Non-issue for me.
I would prefer my Female inquisitor to wear a fancy dress, jewelry and a mask, but I understand the need for a "sort of" gender neutral outfit. Also animation issues are a factor I am sure.
I would have liked something like this!

cannae help but think of Pink when i see that lassie with the white hair
Now that I see its uniform instead of pantsuit I actually like it. It will fit my both female Inquisitors and it'd be something I'd like to wear myself.
Options would be best though and I wouldn't mind dress either (as long it's not as skimpy as latex dress Shephard had in ME, ugh).

I've never seen a post that actually has a Scottish accent before.
I love the dress.
If only we could wear that at Skyhold too ![]()
IT'S NOT A DRESS
About the argument of fighting in a dress and being hard to animate. Well if Ubisoft can do it, I am sure Bioware can too.

I like it. I dislike dresses on women anyway, so I'm going to love this on my female inquisitor.
