I posted this in the casual outfit thread as well but moriesartwork on tumblr did some really great designs of their take on formal wear!

Spoiler

The feminine version of the red military suit they did is so nice and I wouldn't have minded wearing that at all! They even added a formal elf outfit as well as a dress design. Loved all 3 to be honest, haha.

http://moriesartwork...this-that-there

What is exactly the feminine version of something? this is no better than of what bioware did in DA 2 with Hawke casual clothes or ME 2.

It is a military suit it should look the part, it does not need to change to fit some concept of "feminine", what is needed is that the clothes have a concept and are equal to all the genders. I would go with military, elegant and cultural. In no way they should differ when changing to male or female inquisitor.

I'm just shocked by learning that we can only wear one outfit to the ball (and around Skyhold).

BioWare is promoting customization in every corner: the character customization Twitch streams, as well as the crafting ones, and the poster with the numbers including how many crafting options and mount options we have, etc.

We have an incredibly detailed CC, with options like "Adam's apple" in the mix, and make-up for the men and women. And even beards for the dwarf women!

We can customize our decor theme and drapes, and mix and match those possibilities, instead of going, (made-up example here) "Do you want a church or a library here?" and having the building/room/etc be some static, preset appearance that doesn't change.

^ Edit: I am happy about those options in the CC and the hold. I realized afterward that those could be read in a negative tone.

But we have one non-customizable option to walk around our keep in. And one military suit during an event attended by some of the most prominent Orlesian nobles--including the Empress herself--people who happen to have an obsession with high fashion trends.

I love the ball uniform on male Inquisitors. If Leliana's wearing exactly what a female Inquisitor would wear, then I don't love that. I don't hate it, either, of course. I didn't hate Hawke's outfit in Mark of the Assassin, although I also didn't love it. When I heard about a ball being included, my first reaction was "Oh my god, an Orlesian ball? What will we wear? I'm so excited!" Then I saw that trailer with all of the people spinning around the dance floor, and I was more excited. Now that I've seen these images, that excitement has definitely dwindled.

If you love the outfit, then please remain happy about it. I don't want to crush anyone's happiness.

I would just like an option. I can't have an extravagant ballgown because perhaps we'll be fighting and the animations are too difficult (I do love the Aveline images posted earlier--I may be picking up Liberation now) for this game/engine/etc? Fine, I accept that.

But surely, something akin to Josephine or Vivienne's clothing could be managed, and let those who want a few frills to have their moment on the dance floor in something stunning and on par with the surrounding guests? I'd be thrilled with something like Josie or Viv. I'd definitely be ecstatic and be able to happily accept that.

And Skyhold's outfit? The front looks great. The back looks a little dull, and we'll probably be seeing a lot of that. Change the jacket color so it's not so monotonous in color, or throw on a sash or scarf, and I'll pull back any complaints about it.

That's just my opinion on the matter, no better or worse than anyone else's. It's just that, if we don't speak out when concerned, or upset, or even angry, how will anyone know we felt that way?

Have a nice night all. :)

People are a loud to ask for more.Is there truly something wrong with that? I guess I'll stop voicing my opinion because other people are happy with it and sit in a corner with out trying to get some change for me.

No, I just thought there should be some more positivy spread around. They have already given us a ton of new features and hairstyles, and freckles too. But it's like people are forgetting the positives and are just being critical all the time. i mean if you were a designer and kept getting critised (constructive or no) for minor things: wouldn't you feel disheartned and a little mad at how unappreciative people were?

Yes I can see where you are coming from. But at the same time a good designer takes criticism and uses it to better their work it's up to us to let the Devs know how to enhance the game more and at the same time appreciate what they have provided us so far. :D

LOL Bioware cannot win.

They give you a game with 200+ potential hours of gameplay...

I don't want 200 hours of gameplay I want nice hair, a dress and a body slider. I don't want 100 different endings either I want the differences between the endings to be more than the instagram filter used.

It's not that easy when your working with a completely different engine along with different gameplay

You mean the engine that's supposed to be one of the most advanced in the world.

These are copy-pasted animations, Ubisoft didn't make anything unique here in regards to the outfit. If you're okay with Bioware adding a dress without changing any of the standard animations, just remember that they've already done this before in Mass Effect 2, which lead to people complaining and mocking them.

That's not what happened. In ME2 femshep used all of maleshep's animations. This resulted sitting in a dress like a 3 year old might. The female inquisitor has her own animations, but even if she sits like this: Sharovipteryx_BW.jpg

it probably wouldn't be a problem because of the skirt length.

I wish I knew enough about computers to build a gaming pc and wallow in mods all day.

I wouldn't splash out on one yet until we know it can be modded. I'm not actually confident. But you can definitely make a pc that'll run DAI and get someone to assemble it for less than a PS4. We'll help!

I was really hoping for gender neutral armour but female clothes, I guess we'll be getting the opposite lol.

I'm sure there are other games to fill out what you apparently deem important in a video game. You may have taken a wrong turn on the way to one of them.

is a dress in a period game REALLY so much to ask for? My point was I'd rather quality over quantity. Or wait erm, quantity of features over gameplay length

Idk, the more I see the uniform the more I like it. It's military and formal, fitting to someone who is Inquisitor and in lead. It's just very cool looking outfit as well, I will be happy with it. Since we are working in the ball the lack of choice don't bother me so much. Ball with dresses and Orleasian style outfits in some point would be good and options would be always better than no options but I actually love what we got.

:o  I've tried looking at guides and videos online but no one can seem to agree on what's best and what will work It's overwhelming for a n00b like me lol :(

I can already tell that if Bioware had given female inquisitors a gown, than half the people would have complained that it either made their character look like barbie, its too girly for their qunari's, they dont think the colour fits with their elf, etc, etc.

They really would never win.

I'm pretty sure that if Bioware gave the choice between the current outfit, and another one ( a dress, a a gown ), most people would be very satisfied. I always said and repeated months ago that for customization, the best was to give a wide range of outfits and armors to please everyone. Why couldn't they give two outfits at least just for the ball ?

Let's say that okay, it would be difficult for the animations with a dress ( meh ), why couldn't they give another uniform more feminine ? ( it's still possible with pants ) Given all the feedback and topics in the past for months, I'm pretty sure they were aware that not everyone wanted the same thing.

I'm just astonished by all those choices given to customize Skyhold, and we couldn't even change our casual outfit, not even choose our ball uniform. I wanted to look like a noble guy for my Trevelyan in a party, not like a military leader. Too bad.

Exactly, and what about the inquisitors who are scoundrel types and run the inquisition very rough and informal like a thieves guild? I can't see a Robin Hood type character and all his or her followers dressed up like identical tin soldiers.

Even then somebody is gonna end up not liking the options

Most people would be satisfied with a choice of masculine formal (like what we have) feminine formal (a dress or more feminine pants outfit) or keeping their chosen armor/robes on though.

Your gonna have to, you're representing the Inquisition (a military organization) in a formal ball

.... Unless we all got the whole thing wrong and the Inquisitor (and Leliana) snuck into the ball dressing as other people

Which would have them animating all of that on multiple body types which would be time consuming for one mission

This whole thread hasn't been about taking the current options away, but instead giving a choice to the players for more then one option, and who knows you may be right there may have been people upset. But not nearly as many if there had been a choice in the first place. I have been watching this thread for the last few days, and it seems that any time people voice their opinions on optional clothes others try to tell them that they are wrong. But for all of those people that tell me, and others like me, that we are wrong for wanting more options; if it had been something that you were looking forward to and it wasn't in the game I'm sure that you would be on a another thread voicing your opinions!! So AGAIN, we are not saying for them to remove the options given (since some like those options) we are saying we would like to have a couple of choices. The key word there is CHOICES. :D

People didn't like that dress, but I never saw anyone  complaining about the other options. We got a choice there, people who didn't want Shepard dressed like a...lady of the evening got a few different uniforms and some overalls. It would be another matter if we had been forced to wear that dress like we're forced to wear the men's nutcracker uniform.

It doesn't make sense that the leader of said military organization wouldn't be able to choose the rules or uniform.

How would animating them be time consuming? The armors are already animated, the nutcracker suit is already modeled and shares the same animations with the skyhold outfit and similar close fitting pant armors. One extra feminine option would share animations with mage robes since they have the same silhouette. As for the modeling itself...they make dozens of armor sets, some even just for preorder bonuses and such. I don't see how adding one extra would have been overwhelming. I would have been satisfied with at least being able to wear my pre-existing armor that I was already wearing and just pick the prettiest robes (even for warriors and rogues) or armor for the occasion myself.

There will be always a few people who complain. If it is impossible to totally win, it's also possible to reduce the number of people unsatisfied, to please the majority, which could be considered as winning despite the imperfection. I'd rather read " the ball uniforms arent really good, I hope that it will be better designed in the future games ", than " I couldn't choose to wear what would fit more my inquisitor.  " It's a RPG after all. How about we try to intensify this meaning as much as possible ? We can choose so many useless things with Skyhold, and yet, it's a big deal for our own garnment, just having one more ball uniform. That annoys me.

I'd easily drop the ability to choose the flowers that appears in my garden for the possibility to choose my ball uniform between two outfits.

I'm really hoping for a dlc with more hairstyles, more armors, more casual outifts, another ball uniform. I'd buy it Bioware. Many folks would buy it, Bioware.

The infamous femshep dress in ME 3.

That wasn't a choice in ME. It's actally the same issue. People were forced to wear a dress, so obviously those who didn't like it because they prefer pants, or something more masculine complained, as some people who 'd rather have something more feminine complain too now. Like I said, giving the choice is the best solution to satisfy folks, which hasn't been done at all.

Exactly, and what about the inquisitors who are scoundrel types and run the inquisition very rough and informal like a thieves guild? I can't see a Robin Hood type character and all his or her followers dressed up like identical tin soldiers.

Oh yeah, didn't even think about that. Very good point. I am now thinking my anti- human dalish elf in this military uniform, geez.  -_-
