Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined Garrus becoming a romance option.
Turians are probably the least human looking of all humanoid sentient aliens in Mass Effect.  Romancing one comes across as borderline bestiality.

Seriously, what is next?  Is Legion going to be a romance option too?

They're sapient, xenophobe.

:bandit:

To be fair, you can't call someone a xenophobe just because they disapprove of having sex with a fictional alien species.

To be honest, I just don't see the attraction to Garrus and Thane, but, then again, I'm a guy.

I've always been interested in the idea of Garrus as a romance option mainly because of his character. Honestly, I can't even wrap my mind around the physical aspects of the relationship, so I just never figured that into the equation. I'm hoping that Garrus is the "talk it out" type romance, because I feel his character and the connection he has with Shep over the two games could lead to some very interesting dialogue.

Of course, given the option, I would take Joker over any of the options any day.

Sex with a robot? Why not. Humanity is most CERTAINLY going to copulate with robots before aliens. Actually you can do so already now! You can buy robots that you can have sex with. Can't remember the name of the latest one. But it's apparently able to do a few things, and have some rudimentary artificial intelligence so it can respond to its owner during intercourse. Uncomfortable about this? Don't worry, you're not getting forced to have sex with it. (It looks horrible anyway - it is the creation of old horny men)

Thanks, that information just made me lose all hope for humanity.

Edit: Maybe this is hwo the geth came to be? They started out as sex robots :pinched:

I find the options for FemShepd romance in ME2 a lot more liberating than ME1's (you either get the asari or the incredibly boring and annoying dude). Garrus was one of the more well-written characters so I'd like to see how the romance plays out.

And the option for Tali (along with Miranda and apparently Kahlee) just brought into contension who I would be using first, my female Shepard (who is my first one and my 'canon' one) or my male one, who has some very, very interesting romance trees.

The bigotry some of you are showing is making me sick.

Why do you feel the urge to force your beliefs onto others? If there is something completely optional that you don't like...freaking skip it. Just don't tell others they should not like it either.

I'm not going to romance Garrus but I'm glad the plot made it into the game cause I know so many wanted it. And guess what I can be happy for other people.

Rutting with a bird/raptor alien = fine.
Consensual homosexual relations = not fine.
Why is that, Bioware?

At this point it becomes a reasonable question
One might say it's because of the military, but... :P

Thanks, that information just made me lose all hope for humanity. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie]

And that's just the top of the iceberg.

Just because of Tali, I'm considering just playing as a male shepard instead.

I would DIE for Female shepard x Tali though. <3

I have absolutely no interest in Garrus as a romance option, partly because I'm a man and the other because..........I just don't see what's so complying about him. That said, Bioware isn't taking it to far because this is what a lot of people wanted. They were wanted, now this is the result. At least it proves they're listening to the fanbase, regardless of whether other sides of said fanbase have any interest or not.

Actually I find it better to replace current prostitution with artificial sex. It will help the poor girls forced into prostitution somewhat (but it will most likely never be eradicated) and it will be safe. We cannot count on people to stop wanting to buy sex, so if that demand can be supplied without harming human beings, then I say go for it.

I can imagine Geths having such purposes among others. Watch Bladerunner, or read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", for examples of this; the androids served as heavy labourers, miners, prostitutes (many owned by the the military to maintain morale in space) and soldiers. Easily replaceable, safe (unless they go on a murderous rampage) and demands no payment.

I think Tali makes sense.

Commander Shepard does a lot of Tali in the first game so I can see how Tali's feelings towards Shepard can evolve from friendship into love.

I understand where you're coming from, but accusing people of bigotry against something that doesn't exist is way too much.

I don't get why people are assuming BioWare are full of homophobes. Hasn't BioWare been lauded for it's tastefully done homosexual options done in their games? Hell, Dragon Age features the option of a male romance with Zevran.

Seriously, if you're going to knock BioWare for something, it probably shouldn't be ignoring homosexual relations.

Maybe they dont want one for the sake of having one?

If it works, there's absolutely no problems with that. I mean, even if turian/quarian/drell and human don't have the, err, plug'n'play kind of choices doesn't mean it is bestiality. They are sentient, and consensual actions of this kind ain't in any way related to bestiality.

I'm more baffled that there's pretty much just one kind of male in this game. The strong warrior. Although I kind of see that Garrus and Thane might be more fun to chat with... Thane probably in the same way as Sten in DA:O.

In regards to the alien dislike, I think it's important for everyone to remember that there is a distinction between romance, an emotionally charged interaction between sentients, and lust, which is entirely physical. You can love someone without being physically attracted to them, and be physically attracted to someone without loving them. Intimacy options that explore both ends of the spectrum allow for a great deal more choice, depth, and overal variation in how the games of individual players will differ I should think, making for a more customized experience for each individual.

Yes, it's quite sad. Well, no games had exclusively homosexual relations, as they were all bisexual, but that's close enough.

It's like demanding that all games have one of each nationality, one of each sexual orientation, one of each political direction, one of each religious belief and so on. If no characters are X, it does not mean that the game is against X. While I can understand that many would have enjoyed that X, they will have to play another title.

Would be nice to see some more homosexuality in games though. GTA have plenty of that if you want some. There's a whole expansion dedicated to it.

I thought she was just the ship's "fling" option.
If she is a full fledged option though, I would be curious to know why Joker isn't. I get that his bone disease thing may not allow for...intimate relations. But we get Garrus so clearly that's not an insurmountable obstacle.

You mean Kelly Chambers, don't you? She's a fling, not a love interest.

Kahlee Sanders is Anderson's love interest in the first book and approximately 40 years older than Shepard (but due to gene therapy she'll look like one in the late 30s, early 40s).

That would actually solve my biggest problem. Joker is snarky and nice-looking. Sure, gotta be careful not to crunch him with the powers of a military maiden, but otherwise... :D

Indeed.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the change of lead writer? Perhaps the new guy finds xenophilia with monstrous looking turians more acceptable than human homosexuality?

Although I agree that every game doesn't HAVE to have homosexual relations in it, when you have the option for romance at all it opens the can of worms that is "not everyone is heterosexual."

The thing that I find annoying about it all is that you can literrally alter almost anything you want about Shepherd...his past, his appearance, his personality....yet you can't make him gay. Even if there were no other gay characters, and you were turned down by all the male characters in the game after coming on to them, it would still be more realistic than simply not having the option at all.

But alas, this thread is about aliens, and I say yay for Garrus gettin' some love...even if it is by a woman <_<

The difference between say Dragon Age's protagonist and Shepard is that in Shepard, the writers have a specific way in which they think male and female Shepard will act.

In Dragon Age you could be more or less whatever you wanted. Any one of three races, any one of SIX upbringings. They even had a lesbian plotline involved in the game itself, two fully bisexual characters, and same gender sex scenes as well as probably the most unintentionally adorable bromance in the history of gaming.

Hell, Dragon Age had full on flirting between a seven foot tall giant and a stone golem and a talking dog as well as prostitution involving odd looking rabbit creatures and a hammer.  Oh, yes, and transexuals.

In Mass Effect, there are more important things to be done than "same gender romance". The alien romances seem far more interesting than just mere same gender stuff. I'd rather them do something that lets you explore the universe they've created than just catering to people for the sake of politican correctness. I really don't see Shepard as gay - either of them. Liara was one thing - an entire race of women essentially, but the female characters this time round are real hard nuts too. I just don't see them going for women either.
