Well looks like you're going to be pretty lonely in your cabin on the SR2 Normandy.

not at all...with what I've seen of the game there's plenty to do besides romance...gameplay looks great.

Although I agree that every game doesn't HAVE to have homosexual relations in it, when you have the option for romance at all it opens the can of worms that is "not everyone is heterosexual."

The thing that I find annoying about it all is that you can literrally alter almost anything you want about Shepherd...his past, his appearance, his personality....yet you can't make him gay. Even if there were no other gay characters, and you were turned down by all the male characters in the game after coming on to them, it would still be more realistic than simply not having the option at all.

But alas, this thread is about aliens, and I say yay for Garrus gettin' some love...even if it is by a woman <_<

Ah, you hit a very important point there. One that I also touched in another response. People should be able to roleplay their sexual orientation. Maybe that's what they should be demanding instead? That would be entirely justified. That there is no homosexual characters in the game, you'd be a sad loner, but  you'd still be able to act out your sexual orientation.

Yes, excellent thought indeed.

So, there's alien romance, but not same-sex romance? BioWare, how in the hell does that make sense?

You mean Kelly Chambers, don't you? She's a fling, not a love interest.

I recently saw the Youtube of the Kelly Chambers "romance."

....

:o

Yeah.  Bioware is some lonely old men.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined Garrus becoming a romance option.
Turians are probably the least human looking of all humanoid sentient aliens in Mass Effect.  Romancing one comes across as borderline bestiality.

Seriously, what is next?  Is Legion going to be a romance option too?

Yeah, I was very surprised by this as well...
It just seems... awkward. I liked Garrus as a character, he was interesting, and my femShepard and he got along just fine... and I am really curious to see how he has developed as a character in the second game, and I'm exited that he's back... but romancable?
It seems awkward, forced even. The devs said he was not intended to be a romance, so ... it's out of character.

I don't have anything against interspecies romances ingame... but, it just appears to be forced. Makes me feel like shifting around uncomfortably. I've never liked it when producer rewrite or alter a character just to please fans, it never feels right.

But then again, there is the difference that it is not actually forced on the audience. So... whoever feels happy with it.

Agreed, it would be incredibly lonely....like right now, how my adorable little Irish Connor Shepherd turned down Liara and killed williams (she was way too annoying) and is left fauning over Kaiden. I keep talking to him after every mission seeing if I can at least try ;)

Sure.

but yes, boiled down to it, I think we can guess now why the Illusive Man assigned Kelly to Shepard.

Since when do romances automatically mean sex. There are people who have very deep romantic relationships who, for one reason or another, (physical limitation, distances, religious reasons) can't have sex. Their relationship is still very strong, and as full (if not fuller) then a relationship that can involve consummation.

Dear God... That was... Wow.  Where'd she even get a stripper outfit? Why Bioware? Just... why?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the change of lead writer? Perhaps the new guy finds xenophilia with monstrous looking turians more acceptable than human homosexuality?

Well. If so, nothing wrong with that. It's written stuff after all. I mean, there's still free will involved in writing. And I'm pretty sure that Garrus and Tali were included because of their fan base and their role in the first game, not because ME2's writers like having sex with aliens. Fan service? Partly yes but nothing's wrong with that too, as long as it's done nicely - and that's what might be questionable.

*spoilers*

Tali's scenes were adorable. Garrus... too awkward, at least they made some good comedy about it (Mordin).

I am officially going to make a petition to Bioware that she's Conrad Verner's ****ty sister out to bang Shepard since he first became famous.

Or maybe she's Conrad after the operation!

Another great point.

Answer: Because the company is probably trying to appeal to the bunch of horny pubescent/teen boys playing the game who probably wont see a vagina until their mid-20's...

sorry, that was a rantish comment - yay for the hypersexualization of society!

Don't wanna raise an old flame war here.. but yes. When I said there's no necessity of picturing sex in a story just because it's rated M, people told me "If you have a problem with sex, skip the romances." Haha.

Haha...yet some of those same people are probably the ones who are against in-game same-sex relationships, and hell, even in relation to this forum, inter-species relationships.

So, as an end all be all - " If you have a problem with [a romance option], skip [it]."

:)

I would love to have my FemShep spend some rack time with Wrex, its a game and its meant to be gun. Plus, odds are krogans have to of the male organs. Double her pleasure.

Thats enough perversion for a week

Actually, it was stated that Krogans have four testicles in ME1 (if you talked to Garrus on the Normandy at one point, he states this). So, yes, double the pleasure :)

I just love that the people that whined about not being able to romance Tali and Garrus got what they wanted. People that wanted OMG BEWBS got a set of those.

The people that *didn't* have a problem with the romances in ME1 and liked them got totally shoved aside.

I won't begrudge someone the new romances at all. But on the end of the Ashley/Kaidan/Liara fans, the spectrum was completely unbalanced and unfair.

I confess, I was surprised that so many characters were completely dumped.

Another person who doesn't know what bestiality means. Aliens aren't beasts.

And even if they were. It's not forbidden because it's with another species, it's because animals do not possess the same intellect we do. Animals do not choose to have sex with humans, that's why it's considered rape. If animals were able to think at the same level we do, could talk, and could make decisions for themselves, it would not be outlawed.

If loving Garrus is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

(Tali too.)

Could I get the Kelly thing as well please?

I may try out the Garrus romance once but it still seems a little weird. Thane seems more acceptable than Garrus.

Don't forget the female fans who assailed the asari as nothing but fanservice. They got their own (dev admitted) fanservice race in the drell.

It would have been better to leave Ash, Kaidan, and Liara out completely, rather than giving them the sort of nothing roles they have in ME2.

I think the only ones who didn't get their wish, were the people who wanted a m/m romance to balance out the f/f one. Bioware's solution there was to eliminate the f/f romance as well.

classy.
