@Mimilette

For me it was sort of out of place since he just killed his friend.

Hahaha, I completely forgot about that, and it was my first "What the hell Anders?" moment. I kind of blame bad writing here. That very first conversation was just terrible, in my opinion. The flirt from Anders doesn't show if you're the one who initiates it, but then he starts rambling on how he's going to hurt you, and I thought "Dude, we've known each other for five minutes, and all I did was complimenting you, let's slow down on the drama".

Both Zevran and Anders ask if (specifically) gay flirting bothers the PC. The PC can say yes. This isn't the only way to turn them down, but I thought to mention it because people were talking about players being uncomfortable with gay flirting. David Gaider has confirmed that homophobia exists in-universe and presumably that those options were homophobic. It seems pretty sad that they were included in the games.

Or you just don't like both of them. There's always a chance of that.

Do correct me if I'm reading this wrong, but you are saying it's homophobic to turn down Zevran and Anders if you aren't interested?

One option is to turn them down normally, another dialog option is to say that confirm that you have a problem with gay flirting. The latter seems pretty homophobic.

Haha, you never read the long thread about the player that Zevran "tricked" into his tent!

Here's that really funny Zevran thread I mentioned earlier if anyone wants to read it for giggles.

None of them sound homophobic. Not wanting someone of the same or different sex to flirt with you isn't homophobic or heterophobic.

I had the same impression. The whole 'I'll hurt you, better stay away" seemed a bit of overreaction, especially considering he was the one who was flirting first.

To be specific, the one with Anders is Anders asking Hawke if Hawke is bothered that Anders has been with men. That's definitely not just "not wanting someone of the same sex to flirt with you"

I've never seen that line.

Funny that Hawke flirts with him, and then is confused later. lol

The entire dialogue doesn't involve only that. There is no "two" options with Anders. You either tell him not to try to be your friend, or he makes you feel uncomfortable period. The fact that he throws in he's been with a, as in one man, is just thrown on at the end.

...And your point is? I never said that the whole conversation had to do with Anders being with a man.

To be frank when Zevran asked me if I wanted a massage I did get a feeling it could be something more but the phrase was kinda... vague? Usually he flirts more openly...

So I saved and proceed to agree. Then hysterically laughed. Then reloaded

The response comes afterwards. It's as if I flirted with a woman, she told me to stop, and then I said do I make you feel uncomfortable, is it because I'm a man? Her saying, "Yes, you're making me uncomfortable stop," isn't misandristic.

I would hope they're talking about some other hypothetical game. It definitely wouldn't work here.

Hell, one of the first fantasy novels contained a protagonist who didn't believe in themselves (bilbo baggins).

Yeah shy or not I prefer the PC hits on the NPC first system.

Mostly because BW has the PC do stupid grins/smirks that are OOC for my characters with the characters that DO flirt first. (looking at you Isabela). So I rather just avoid that bit of facepalm by having my PC hit on them first.

I rather just get awkward turtle flirts honestly.

But what if a PC making the first step is not fitting? I hoped my Hawke and Fenris could slowly fall in love with each other without noticing it... I kind of could do it with Lelianna and female Warden, there were many approaches to Alistair which made it look like he did the first step, Anders too... etc
Plus knowing 90% sure that an icon will result an an obvious way is... just killing the fun

That's kind of my point though - it would be interesting to see the "heart" icon represent only the PC's intention, and not the result. For example, maybe if the PC sidles up to a potential LI and says "ayyyyy gurl, have I shown you my tent?" within seconds of meeting them, it kills any chances with that LI and nets you some disapproval.

That way hearts wouldn't be auto-win, you'd have to consider if the time and place was right.

They've already done some situations where hearts aren't necessary to get the companion to make a move (e.g. Anders will make the first move if Hawke is friendly to him, and Isabela will do it if Hawke is sarcastic). But it would be cool to see the inverse, where blindly clicking hearts could hurt my chances.

I know it is not exactly the same, but flirt options with Fenris in the first Act at least actually give you less approval than just nice/friendly options.

Well, it does only represent your intention. You don't win with Aveline despite clicking it repeatedly. It's just that it works-ish for the other characters who are LIs. So while you're right Bioware could execute much better the system is what you want - PC intention and not outcome.

Yep, it's partially there with non-LIs like Aveline, Varric, and Tallis. It's even there with LIs - sometimes they don't respond to a particular flirt line, it just sails through one ear and out the other. And Sebastian's romance hinges on withholding flirts from other people.

But, it's not that big a deal if an LI fails to notice certain flirts, because eventually some of the flirt lines will "score". So it's hard for people to perceive that heart == intention. Hitting the button never worsens your chances with that LI. It would be interesting if it could, in certain (very rare) situations.

So many people have missed my point it disheartening.

It doesn't bloody matter if you can point to a situation and say many people are thus, not all people are X.

You must accept that BIOWARE not you is telling a story. Your character has leeway within that story BUT if bioware has not scripted, not writen an option within the story YOU CAN'T play it. SO BE PREPARED FOR THAT POSIBILITY.

You must appraoch the game as I have a GENERAL concept of who my character is, what I would LIKE to do, and be willing to ADAPT these concepts to fit within the story. This way you will enjoy the experience more because you are not trying to go against the current of the story.

You may very well be able to do what you want but don't have high hopes for things that run contrary to the concept of LEAD THEM OR FALL.
