I was just wondering if someone has figured out whether we have seen/know about the main 10 'open world' zone things yet, or whether some are still shrouded in mystery. As in, how many do we know the names of? Are there any descriptions of zones which don't match any we've seen yet? Thanks! ![]()
Do we know what all of the main zones are yet?

I am going to assume that the list of the 10 does not include Skyhold or other smaller areas that we go to for specific plot sections but don't get to explore (e.g. Haven, The Fade, possibly Halamshiral, Val Royeau, and the Deep Roads). In which case we have:
In Ferelden:
- The Hinterlands
- The Fallow Mire
- The Storm Coast
- Crestwood Hills
Orlais (The Dales region)
- The Emerald Graves
- The Emprise du Lion
- The Exalted Plains
Orlais (non-Dales regions)
- The Western Approach
If they're hubs and not just specific plot-missions, Halamshiral (Dales Region) and Val Royeau (Orlais, non-Dales) might count as well. It's also possible that the Deep Roads might actually be its own region too. We'll have to see.

Wouldn't people rather find out such things by, you know, playing the game?

Finding things out via playing a game? The thought only is outrageous! ![]()

The same could be said in response to basically any question about the game asked on the forum.

If true, I kinda regret having seen them all before release...

Hmm, is 10 the official number we've been given or just a guess?

Aye. Please don't have that in the thread title if that is the case.

The "10" thing comes from a Cameron Lee interview at E3. He says they have "10 massive open-world areas" or something, which implies to me that these are only the massive exploration sections and not the areas we'll go to for plot reasons (or Skyhold, for example).

Questions can be asked without them being spoilerish.
Some of us do actually prefer to role-play (you know - the "R" and "P" in RPG) things.

I doubt it. They've showcased a bigger part of them, I think, but I doubt they'd just show everything. Kind of kills the intrigue.

Actually no - people wouldn't want to know spoilers right now. What is a spoiler, now there is a big question.
Main zones - I'd say is a spoiler, I guess you disagree?

Are you sure Crestwood isn't in the Hinterlands?

Where's the fun in that?
Main plot lines I'd agree with you but area names, companion names, romances and the like it's fun to find out while you are waiting for the game to come out.

considering we start off in haven and the location of skyhold is all icy and mountainous i think we're going to have an Area in the frostback mountains.

Thus far we've got...
- The Emerald Graves
- Emprise du Lion
- The Exalted Plains
- The Hinterlands
- The Western Approach
- Crestwood Hills
- The Fallow Mire
- Storm coast
Those are all the ones that come to mind, but I've probably missed a few.
Nahashin Marshes is at the back of my mind for some reason. Don't quote me on this, but didn't we see that when they were going over some save files in a demo some time ago?

Remember we have a swampy area, a snowy area, and a desert as well

Fun is the three first letters in funky music.
To be more serious, folks, I guess it is time for the likes of me to vanish before the game comes out, because for some of us:
might be more than "fun to find out while you are waiting for the game to come out."

You're right, it was in the PAX gameplay video from last year.

The blurry menu picture reminds me of this early screenshot. A similar locale can be seen in numerous trailers as well.

It also seems quite similar to the zone the Avvar keep featured in a more recent gameplay video was in. Both are dark and rainy swamps. However, Nahashin Marhses are located in northern Orlais, while the Avvar keep was in South Ferelden. Just seems odd they would double up on the dark swamp zone, there's also a slightly different looking swamp sub-zone in the Exalted Plains called "The Crow Fens."
