I wrote it to address well, lurkers in general.  Developers in particular.  Partly because this is a subject I get excited and giddy talking about, so I tend to expand on things when I get excited. 

 

Also because, in addition to saying "hey, it would be cool if you considered some diverse options for hairstyles!", I thought it would be helpful/interesting to provide just one perspective on hair and its treatment/place from a background that might not be their (the developers' and internet strangers') own.

It would be nice to have the choice. Notice though that all the hair is straight. No curly hair at all much less the afro type. Also i wanted to make the point that i have seen white scndinavian types with the classic fro hairstyle, it is more about how much curl there is in the hair rather than race.
What about short curly styles? I suspect there is a rendering problem with hair longer than the shoulders, but there are other, better styles not available. How about some more choices with bangs?

Not hair that naturally looks like our own, as it grows out of our heads.  As someone who straightened my hair for at least twenty five years, I really, really would like the option to have afro-textured curly hair like mine in a video game one day.  I realize it may be a ways off, because of graphics limitations but it can't hurt to vocalize the desire for it.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but it's definitely disappointing, if those styles we've already seen are all we're getting.  I'm still crossing my fingers for a few more styles for female characters, but I'm not looking at the ones we've seen and saying "hey, there's at least five or six versions of the same close cropped haircut here, awesome!"

I thought the Nightfall expansion of the first Guild Wars game did Black hair really well. And I know a lot of people who are disappointed with the current in-game options as well with regards to natural hair.

De-lurking to say how much I love this.  Every Bioware game, the hair is the one department everyone finds lacking.  A few natural black hairstyles would go a long, long way.  I can understand some people being concerned over the lore, but even lore can be ignored for the needs of the game.  (templars and lyrium addiction)

There is afro-textured hair in the cc. There is. I made a whole post about it on the last page. There's like 8 styles of afro.

Black women have plenty of choices in the CC when they want their character to walk around with a perm. Not that I have an issue with it. But I stopped doing that over twenty years ago. I currently wear long dreads, I had a small fro at one point, I blew out my hair so it was thick and long but not straight. There are so many other options beyond "white" hair styles that black women can have. Not seeing the big deal in asking for them, it's not like you'll pick them if the options were available.

Not every black female player wants a perm hairdo or a short cropped cut. Yes there are options but is it that hard to make braids or dreads or a curly afro ala the lenny kravitz pic. Skyrim came out 3 years ago and has more options,Dragons Dogma 2 years ago with more options...Bioware has some catching up to do.

I agree with this. I also think that there should be more black hairstyles too, but basically the majority of the hair choices look pretty dodgy. I'm for better, and more varied, choices for everyone. The lot we've seen so far are pretty disappointing from where I sit.

All game engines don't work the same. BioWare also cares a lot about clipping. Bethesda will ship a game with more bugs than a dumpster.

I'd just like more variety in general.  I'd like some crazy stuff, half-shaved/ half braid, throw some metal clips or combs in there, change the shape of it.  In DA and in many games it seemed like our choices were close cuts or dirty cuts.  ALl that changed was bangs it seemed like.  I'm not looking for bangs.  I want Bang!

I wasn't making assumptions. You just posted that this was low on your lists of wants.

I get it you want more black hair textures, and I can sympathize. All I meant is that there is a long line of things to get past before I consider hair. I said the exact same thing in the qunari thread, and they actually have a problem, and I said the exact same thing months ago in the thread that asked for hair that blew in the wind. I didn't say not to ask for it, I said that I personally, could careless if it were pushed to the back to make way for more important changes. And I say that as someone who has "black hair" since that's what we call it now.

There's afro texture hair in the game. And it's just as awful as any other hair. It may not look good, but then again, you've already admitted that it's pretty common in Dragon Age to have awful hair.

You mean that row of pics above where someone pointed to possible coarse hair? We're talking about styles, like in the pics posted from the OP. What we're saying is that there are more options for straight hair types and those who are interested in creating a black PC have little options to go with, cause let's face it, blacks typically are the only ones with different hair styles due to having coarser hair than other racial groups.   When creating a black character it's usually "Get a straight hair style or go bald". We're just discussing a desire for more black hair options (dreads, braids, afro, et al).

I get that. As I said, I'm not going to tell you to stop. Just saying BioWare has shitty hair all around, and I'd personally like a few other things fixed first. That was my opinion, that I had. I'm not going to demand that you all have it with me. Hair's more important to some people than others. I'm others.

It's cool. I know they need to fix a lot of stuff, I doubt anyone can argue with that, especially if we're gonna go by DA2 but I don't think anyone here is saying hair is the most important fix or even considering it number one on their list of priorities.
