Paying customers are entitled to give feedback. It's up to the developers whether or not the want to listen to any of it. Granted the we as the customers could be a bit more calm and constructive but they should still understand that they are simply disappointed and that their words should not fall on deaf ears.

Clipping isn't a valid excuse for the hair. There is always clipping, I saw plenty in the PAX AUS stream.

It is in high demand and would improve many players' experiences, they realize this and just might do something about it. Ya know cuz they're nice.

Also long hair isn't only lacking. There could be some better textures for the current ones and there could be some more inspired short hairs.

I'm well aware of the way you feel about customer feedback

The post my reply was directed at, had nothing to do with texture. If said poster doesn't care about clipping, I am pretty sure texture wouldn't deter them, either.

Obviously, you aren't.

I was just sayin that textures were another part of the hair problem.

Did I say you said that the devs shouldn't care about feedback?

I think most people here understand that there is no excuse for "berating" and "belittling" a company period. That just goes without saying. This is simply a classic case of a likely (very) emotional customer who's ticked off about something that doesn't meet up to their standards (whatever they may be.) No one's saying they have an excuse for their behavior, but I don't want this hair thing to get thrown out because of a customer's behavior on a thread.

So, there are several things that fans are requesting, and better hair is already one of those being considered. So I'm just gonna cross my fingers, toes, eyes, etc. and hope my biggest issue is tended to. (Which happens to be hair, since everything else looks amazing to me: narrative, battle, armor, crafting, etc. Did you see that sheen the armor on Cassandra was giving off? Amazing. I'd love to see some of that attention to detail reflected in the hair part of CC.)

(Here's my Disclaimer lol: I'm not trying to say you said he said she said whatever. Ok? XD)

If that is directed at me, I am not defending anything. I just think offering long hair isn't mandatory. I would be nice to include some, but again, it isn't a mandatory requirement and stomping your proverbial feet and acting as though Bioware purposely stripped you of something you want isn't going to make the devs take you seriously in your request. That sort of behavior is most likely going to cause them to skip right over your post.
Really, there is nothing to defend. They didn't do anything wrong. What are you talking about? Never once did I say paying customers shouldn't give feedback or suggestions. Of course they should and Bioware most likely welcomes it.
Being a paying customer doesn't entitle you to berate, demand of, or belittle a company because you didn't get something you want. Being disappointed isn't an excuse to be petulant and caustic and it shouldn't be justified.
Once again, I am not against feedback and suggestions, as they are crucial for improvements. A lot of people want more skills and control over attribute points, to romance Varric, to have more in wardrobe, for warriors to duel-wield, I could go on and on. These things would improve their experience too, so why demand that Bioware use any extra resource to give you what you want, instead of them? They can't give everyone every.single.thing.
We got extra races, two extra romances and probably a few other things, so I don't think they left out some hair just to frustrate some fans.
*Disclaimer: *You is being used in a general term.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of rewriting this for the tenth time.

lol Well, considering you replied to me and defended the customer's right to give feedback-- it's a pretty logical assumption that you were sayjng that, or else your reply is a bit nonsensical, considering I wasn't saying otherwise.

Same as your second post about the textures. Neither had anything to do with my reply to her, so it's not off the mark to think you were making a point using those statements. :P

I was speaking generally...

Also your own opinions aren't that far from my original post.

The only thing we don't agree on is making the hair seem like a very trivial issue that only a handful of people are upset about. We don't know that for sure, and from the looks of things it seems to be a recurring theme here. The other thing I had an eyebrow raised about that I didn't include in my original post is that you seem to think it is ok to belittle the angry customers, referring to them as childish instead of trying to calm them down and have them be more constructive. In the end it's only going to make them more irritated, if they happen to read through your *large* post in the first place.

The problem with blaming it on technology is that this excuse has been used since the switch from sprites to polygons on Windows 95 and the original PlayStation. This is 2014. How much longer is this going to keep going? 2078?

Computers may be getting more powerful but the increase in commercial performance is exponential to the power of 2 at best every 18 months.

It'll take as long as it will take. They can't spend a lot of time on a feature only the top 1% of current computer users are going to use.

A long time. Hair is insanely complicated. Just look at what it took to render hair in frozen.

It's simply because hair is composed of A LOT of individual strands that need to be rendered separately to look good.

Consider what they did with TressFX for Lara Croft. It was one character with one fixed hairstyle, no customization options, they only got certain parts of her hair moving semi-correctly, with only lighting effects applied to the whole head, and it still resulted in a noticeable performance hit.

Technology is getting there, but it's slow.

Having said that, that's no excuse for plastic textures and an overabundance of commando-style hair. And give me some braids already, even if they're by necessity not as long as I'd prefer.

The textures could be better. Didn't one of the original 3D head sculpts have a braided hairstyle? For a female elf I believe.

Yes, these:

See how they all have braids with the exception of the male human? IMO braids have been a defining element of the setting.

This is an AAA title. There is a general expectation of quality. And that quality is expected to be fairly even across the product. There's a problem when one component is conspicuously lacking. If the CC is incredible but for the hair, then there's something wrong. Your CC is only as strong as its weakest element. And certainly time and budget constraints mean you have to prioritize - you can't do everything - but there's no excuse for such a big title, with so much emphasis placed on customization, to have a race that has only 3 hair meshes to choose from. That's a huge discrepancy when compared to other races, which get 8 times as many options. There should be some internal consistency, at least in regards to the quantity and quality of options provided, such that all elements come across as having a similar level of quality.

And hair in general is an issue. We're not exactly expecting the bleeding edge of technology such as TressFX. We do, however, expect options of matching or superior quality to those provided in previous titles. That's not an unreasonable expectation. We should not be perceived as going backwards. When two-thirds of your options are very minor variations on a theme, that's a cop-out. It's an artificial inflation of the numbers that doesn't reflect a meaningful increase in your available options.

It's extremely disappointing, and extremely noticeable, given how good the rest of the game looks.

The hair is looking pretty bad from what I have seen in the streams. The rest of the CC and the character appearance looks excellent, but boy'o'boy does the hair look awful. I think the hair on Lego figures looks more convincing than the hair in DAI. While Frostbite might be good at a lot of things, rendering any hairstyle more complex than a marine buzz cut seems to be beyond it, and with little to no chance of new meshes by modders, we are stuck with Mr. Potatohead hair. It's a bit of a shame that the look of the game is going to be marred by this glaring design failure.

Added, people who make mods for the game for free put the devs to shame with hair.

those braided hairstyles are so adorable, its a shame they werent included or maybe they were?. There are still a handful we havent seen, and maybe there will actually be added more for the final version of the game? Remember how they said the build they were running while showing off char gen was actually a buggy beta build....well one can only hope it was lacking hair for partially the same reason. Tbh im not too bothered about the hair. The facial textures and the facial editing in the cc are amazing which is the most important thing to me, but really those cute hairstyles with the braids would have been nice.

If any of those braided hairstyles were in the game I think they would've shown it off in a gameplay video by now. Unless yes, they decided to add it later, but I really doubt it. I think the game has been ready for months and they've only been doing some minor tweaks to solve bugs. Now that the game has gone gold maybe they are working on a hair patch/DLC and we'll have it sooner than we think (or maybe that's just  wishful thinking.)

yep i know, just speculation and wishful thinking on my part, i dont think any of them have been added. It would have been nice if hair and cosmetic packs were released as dlc, they wont do that because people will ****** at them for it. They are either being lazy or being greedy ea sellouts, some people seem incapable of understanding that resources and time arent infinite. In order to release a game, especially a huge title with a large amount of content, compromises need to be made, and in this case it was hair. To be fair tho bioware have never been good with hair. I still dont see it as that big of a deal, simple hairstyles accentuate the facial structure better, which is what i go for when picking hair, a ponytail or a bun.

Im also pretty sure that bun hairstyle we can pick is the exact same as josephines. People keep saying that the followers all have unique hair, but i watched the char creation trailer just to check and im pretty sure its the same,

Hmm I don't think so. I'm not sure what bun you're talking about but nothing I've seen so far has come close to her hairstyle.

I hope so. At least about half of the selection we got is acceptable, if boring. I can live with that. If only I didn't have to look at that extra-ugly semi-shaved cut in the picture I linked in the OP. And It appears we have to dance with that woman. The things we do to save the world...
