If you are at a point where you are disputing someone's judgement or giving ''life lessons'' on a thread about HAIR in a video game then chances are you're looking way too deep into whoever's post you're replying to. So chill, and don't take things too personal.

All that was said is the game lacks variety in the hairstyle department.I think everyone can agree on that.

And like Chronoid mentioned, more ''conventional'' longer length options for males would be welcomed.

The more I think about it, the more sad I get, because of the lack of modding capability.  Why couldn't they at least bring some of the simpler styles from DA:O and DA2 into this game?  I see armor and weapons that look like they're a straight model port, why not hair too?

If somebody with expendable income could mail a few thousand long haired wigs to each Bioware studio, that would be great.

Personal disagreements aside, I think I found a pic that demonstrated part of the problem as put forth by the OP.  The weird hair on the head is bad, no doubt.  This beard though, is completely dreadful:

Wow.    And clipping through the collar too...

They had to rebuild everything from scratch because of the move to a new game engine, so I'm assuming that to work with a certain style for the moment

That said, they might be able to add new styles and bring back old ones from DAO and DA2 in future games and/or possible DLC (Black emporium)

Hopefully dwarfs look better on beards... I have a feeling Qunari beards dont work too well.

I'm pretty sure that is all the hairstyles available. Any more that could be added would be DLC or Mods if possible. I don't think the blonde coloring helps in this case, especially with the number of similar buzz cuts. The lightness in color seems to be emphasizing a sameness in those first thirteen styles. And as someone pointed out, perhaps they already existed due to the more military style games Frostbite is intended for.

There are about three, maybe four that I would choose for my female characters so that is about on par with the previous hair choices provided in DA 1 & 2 and on par with what I expected.  It looks as if they went for a more unisex look in design knowing the styles would be shared. I understand the choices and how they wanted them to fit the setting but I do miss a sense of femininity in the choices. (I hesitate using that word but I can't think of better. Most of the choices feel very male orientated to me. Not just the shortness but the overall style and lack of softness?, bangs? I know I am not expressing this well)

I hate to say it, but judging from the hairstyle pics on the other races, I'm pretty sure the beard is going to look glued on like that no matter what you play.

The front of the beard doesnt look all that bad, honestly, it is the sides that look bad. I'm wondering if you can facially reconstruct your guy so the beard looks better.

They suck, is what you're saying. (jk, jk)

But damn, Bioware falls short on hair options again.

I hope so, but it's the texture that kills me.  It looks like paint.  <shrug>

I think a lot of it is the color scheme as well. Their version of blonde and grey is incredibly ugly, to me. Lighting does those colors no favors it seems.

There is no transparency blending between the hair-skin boundary at all. That's why it looks like someone glued that thing on his face.

Wow, I 'm really glad fully half of the hairstyles are pretty much buzzcuts. Because if there's one thing I was missing, it was the ability to select between 13 subtly different hairlines for extremely close-cropped hairstyles. If anything, too many resources were spent on making other options. I mean, do we really need <one> braided styles? Are people really so nitpicky that they need <one> different braided styles  or ponytail styles to choose from?

Honestly, given the choice for Bioware to focus on a few options of fabulous hair or being able to choose my race, romance both Solas and Cullen in addition to six others, 100+ hours of game play, etc....Well I'm always going to be willing to give up the hair options.   :) Sorry hair lovers. I am sure it is also hard to get people to agree on what fabulous hair looks like. But I certainly would never complain if more braided or long and soft looking hairstyles were magically provided either!

I would have expected hunger games capital hairstyles for the orlesians . I do find it very strange how this engine can do amazing water and grass that moves and yet can't do simple hairstyles .

end of the day the horses a nice long tail so it's doable in a ponytail style . dragons dogma had a range of good to bad styles

Long hair is not gonna stop choosing a race, romance option, or cut down on hours of gameplay. Lets not be silly.

They're already looking into it. After they get all the bugs out, take a break, and enjoy their own game there will be more than enough time to whip some simple CC content up.

I also love how at least 4 of the female options (including one of the rare longer styles) show what appears to me to be a rather conspicuous receding hairline at the temples. Unisex hairstyles are one thing, but why should pattern baldness carry over? It seems like a lot of these options were designed foremost for males, and then carried over for females without much consideration. (Note, this isn't even a complaint about the hair styles themselves being unisex, but rather the design decision to give female characters a bunch of meshes that seem more suited to aging males.)

Long hair is not gonna stop choosing a race, romance option, or cut down on hours of gameplay. Lets not be silly.

Not quite, it is all about resource allocation and they do blend a bit, at least the race option are going to impact our overall customization options. Resources and time to create and design 28 hairstyles for human males and then test them is going to take a certain amount of zots. Then you add the female human. In this case because the styles are same for genders they need to make sure they are adjusted to fit the difference in size and height. Again testing through every scenario. Now do the same again for each race as the sizes and heights are different, it add up and takes time. Not to mention the rigging efforts that go into each model. It isn't quite as easy as you make it sound.

When Bioware reaches the point where they need to start cutting things to get the game on time, yeah, hair is going to be a lower priority.

Perhaps this will help explain some of what goes into the process with hair and it is only a small part of the overall decision making that is involve. No, level designers and writers don't work on hair but everything does have to fit together and the modelers are not only worried about hair options but a lot more including the extra work that adding races back in require.
