Perhaps this will help explain some of what goes into the process with hair and it is only a small part of the overall decision making that is involve. No, level designers and writers don't work on hair but everything does have to fit together and the modelers are not only worried about hair options but a lot more including the extra work that adding races back in require.

I thought it was fairly obvious why we dont have long hair or "realistic" hair. However, most of the longer hairstyles are quite horrible, imo. A lot of them look like some kind of punk rocker... I personally prefer the more "professional" looking hair styles, myself. For me it isnt a big deal, since I have options I like, but I do find it amusing how bad these hairstyles are. Luckily I'ma be a male dwarf and they look great in military hair, but ya.

I don't think anyone here is asking for Rapunzel or even hair with physics. Just some variety beyond the plethora of bald and male pattern baldness and 80s-90s boy band hair.
Regardless, I have a couple styles in this collection that are workable for me. It's the horrible textures in the fair hair I don't like. Hoping the dark hair looks more like the texturing in Josie's hairdo.

lol, ya, outside of the military haircuts, if I saw a guy or girl with most of these hair styles I'd tell them to get their money back.

Well, if it was all that difficult to do hair, they could have gone with 1 or 2 bald/buzz cut styles. 13 is a bit of an overkill. If they were going for "Everyone in Thedas is going bald because of the rifts..." then yea, they got that look down perfectly.
On the plus side, it's better than Skyrim hair...

I'd be fine with only 10 hair styles if they all were not THAT bad.

What, so we should all be quiet and let the issue dwindle into obscurity so you don't have to see it anymore? Sure, people are saying the same thing; they don't like the hair, they want more options, they want a more even distribution, but it's a lot of people. The forum is here to provide a place for players to comment on the game. If the topic appears once and fades into oblivion because the grievance has been aired, there's no exposure. Changes are enacted when people complain. The more who participate in voicing their criticisms, the more likely there is to be a response and a resolution. The longer they persist, the less likely they are to be overlooked or considered a passing fad.

It was the one I was planning on using too. With the options so limited I guess I could headcanon that she shapes it that way.
To be honest, I was never going to use a beard on any of my characters anyway, but that's just laughably bad. And I like how David Gaidernis like "you guys can't have long hair because of clipping!" And yet their own bloody beards clip on the collar of the clothes. Pathetic.

It literally looks like they just plopped some hair on top of the "friar" hair cut.
