What is it with all these hair style threads?
Someone could go make another "Can I BRUTALLY MURDER ___ ?" thread to help balance things out.
you can't murder hairstyles that are dead
"Can I BRUTALLY MURDER these hair styles???"
Now that I can get behind.
Too late for that, most of them is DoA.
Oh god. I'm dying.
They really are some cheeks
Well, if you'd like a positive spin on things, at least it's not this...enter at your own risk:
Spoiler
Shudder. The only problem I've really had (if you can call a completely aesthetic quibble a "problem") is the textures on the hairstyles, but in the most recent twitter stream and trailer that issue seemed to have improved.
.. yyeeeaaah xD I was about to make the comparison too.
Any ho... why can't we have at LEAST what was pictured in the concept for races? DDD:

Oh COME ON. Even DA:O had these ;n;
^ Exactly. Sigh.
Make a clippy long hair option with helmet hide. Please Bioware?
Keep us informed about hair DLC? Please? Or to help us mod?
Desperate DAI/bioware fan over here.
OK. I'll go look for my dignity now...it's around here somewhere.
For those interested, I got a lot of screenshots of the male elven hairstyles from one of the CC demos. I think I missed a few, particularly the shaven variants, and I know there was a chin-length style that framed the face I didn't see on the stream...but I thought I'd post them here, since this is an appropriate spot for them.
Spoiler
I think it's the texture of the longer hairstyles that looks the most discordant with the more realistic faces. I'm hoping this has been improved. I personally would have liked to see a little more variety, as the styles we do see for male PCs are pretty dominated by shaven variations.
I hope you don't mind, I used one of your screenshots!
I don't understand the choice of making certain styles like the one below when something of similar length and proportions would be way more fashionable. The one with bangs looks like someone's elderly, vision impaired grandmother cut their hair. Don't they have anyone working there with a strong sense of style? ![]()

I want to get hired as their fashion and style consultant, haha.

Didn't want to say that out loud, but i sure thought all that. But there - you threw it out on the open table of discussion!
It sure is odd compared to the promising look of the the concept sculpts that didn't make it.
I hope us hair fans don't have to wait too long before we hear anything hair related (hope not like waiting 3 months or longer).
Having such an awesome CC with such basic hair is like falling into a Salvador Dali painting. A Surreal experience.

You can list me as a reference lol! (Dear BW, please hire a consultant!)

I don't know you, but I guess you could hardly do worse

I find a pro of playing a male PC in this game is that I don't have to choose from the selection of female hairstyles ranging from tolerable to, "Kill if with fire!"
All my planned inquisitors are male, and this looks to be the only acceptable hairstyle for them. I just don't think the way it's parted (particularly with the one ear) would look as good on a male, especially a dwarf. Other than that, it's not really that bad to me. Could be a bit longer, but still better than say Mass Effect.Good thing my Hawke had black hair, I suppose? To be honest, the only hair I can possibly stomach for Females is this one:
I just can't stand any of the others. As for males, I have no idea. all of them feel off. I might as well pull an Shepard and sport an buzzcut.
The Orlesians are a fickle bunch with terrible tastes. They probably change hairstyles every few months.
I've been assuming since the very first screenshot of character hair that the engine just isn't currently capable, and nothing so far has changed that assumption. All hair we've been shown in game is, frankly, atrocious. I can only hope it is something the Frostbite team is working on with all haste, so future games aren't so godawful, or, even better, we get a patch that improves it.
Frostbite has nothing to do with it.
Would have been neat to have a few ponytail options akin to those from the artwork of Dreamfall. I've always loved how Tørnquist's team designs their female characters between the fantasy and the futuristic cyberpunk-inspired setting of that franchise.
I can sympathize. I feel making 1/2 of the options available being buzzcut/bald appearance was a mistake on Bioware's part. Hey, we love Bioware, right, but there's nothing wrong with calling them out on this kind of glaring mistake. 1-2 options for the GI Joe look would have been fine. A dozen is overkill.
And I can live with some of the styles...hell, I'm like a Toreador, stare at it long enough and I start seeing beauty where none may have previously existed. Some are just without hope, I'll never use them. Some actually have grown on me the more I see them--sad isn't it? I was more worried about textures. I find the lighter colors can be beautiful and fit some characters. My 'canon' Surana is dark auburn, my 'canon' LadyHawke rogue is a strawberry blonde/ginger. My inquisitors will all have dark red, brown or black hair by the looks of it. I don't know why blonde hair looks like straw under close examination or butter dripped on the quizzie's head at a distance.
But I will definitely give any DLC for new styles a looksee, especially if it offers a 'mirror of transformation' ala Black Emporium. Even better would be the option to alter companions as well if we want to change them around too. Since there is no toolset (I used that extensively to custom make my Warden presets and alter companions), or mirror at this time, I must be happy with what is provided in order to enjoy the game. If the new 'tactical' combat isn't a deal breaker for me (it's not) then hideous hair day won't be either. Though my OCD will be having fits probably.
I've made my peace with it.

Funny you should mention Dreamfall! I was just watching a video with Zoe, thinking about the lovely loose ponytail she has and lamenting that there will be nothing like that available in DAI.

These hairstyles are an improvement from DAO and DA2. I like the more modern/edgier hairstyles, namely the ones with shaved sides. Makes me pretend I can be Tank Girl.

edit: Had to look up what "tank girl" was, and 'wow'.. that's kind of funny. You will be good to go with these hairstyles!
