What is it with these awful hairstyles?

I am hoping that when Bioware is weighing the options of whether to offer any modding support that they don't automatically consider it all or nothing proposition.

Why not start small with hair, face and outfit customization?

It's reasonable to understand that a full toolset like DAOs is a monumental task.

Whereas getting us started on file modification for appearances would be quite doable.

Even some basic stuff.  Modders can fill in the rest.

Opening up that kind of diversity of choice would mean hair and so much more!!!!!!! :)

Bioware provides amazing sandboxes.  Would love to be to keep personalizing them!

This would be metaphorical me if that was the case!

I don't blame them for not coming into this thread. For the most part people have been respectful, but there are still a lot of "lazy" and implied incompetence going about. Even if they did, what could they say? "Sorry you don't like what we offer you."?

I am sure they are aware of it. How can they not be?

For some of us this DAI deviation of hairstyles just feels so different.

It feels like there is something that went wrong and some of us want to see some kind of hope or assurances that this isn't the new fashion from here on in and that there are remedies coming.

Oh and I am missing the option for some hair strands dangling down infront of the face.  Was that said anywhere?

I'm just glad i normally go with red hair and ponytails on all my female characters (except for my femshep who had a bob) because that option here doesn't seem too horrible

Phew, it took my three hours and a lot of nerves, also I just realized I forgot the dreadlocks but anyway:

I present you a few ideas for hairstyles that might be a bit more diverse than what Bioware is offering us:

Honestly I don't really care about the style as much as the 'texture' variance. For some of my characters, I always pictured them with curly hair (like Meredith from Brave curly). Don't mind if the hair is short I just wanted the curls. For other characters, I wanted thick and sometimes coarse looking hair that would fit the heritage I gave them. Not everyone has straight, shiny hair! You know, just want that variation with type that sets our PC apart from everyone else. Heck, it could even be one standard curly hairstyle that makes my char look like a guy and I would be happy.

Style wise, my only concern is that the hairstyles are going to be set to fit characters with oval, heart, or round shaped faces. I have a habit of making my female characters with square or rectangular facial shapes (I personally think its a beautiful face shape), but a lot of the hairstyles in the previous games I can't really use because they make their faces look off. Even the pulled back hairstyles are bad since they shrink the forehead while the straight down the middle parted styles with flat hair makes the skull look smaller. It sucks! I normally end up using the super short hairstyle since it doesn't mess up my chars face.

Hopefully they added more variety for more facial shapes.

Rumors say that this time mages are not the only ones who get ridiculous headwear.

YES YES!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! :D This is great! You made my day with this :) I want them all, really! Please Bioware copy from this person or hire him/her right now! Should we make cookies for Bioware, with each of this drawn hairstyle of yours stamped on every cookie? I see they love fanmade cookies. They can't deny our wish then !

Nice work. That braid in the middle would pretty much be the ideal option for my female qunari.

@Caboods:

Nice work. I could see myself using about half of these (rather than three or four of Bioware's selection). I really have to wonder why none of the classic braided styles on page 2 made it into DAI, given that they were so prevalent in DAO. That it still doesn't have what I'd prefer: the braid in the last one minus the shaved side of the head.

Well, all I can say is we're probably closer in opinion than I originally interpreted. My main objection is when people are implying that the Bioware devs are somehow incompetent or otherwise incapable of doing hair right, as if the artists or modelers are to blame, or that somehow Bioware isn't aware of this flaw.

This is basically ludicrous, because the talent IS there. Heck we've seen their concepts (including 3D renders) that show better hairstyles. And I am confident if the problem was that they don't have talented enough people, that's something they WOULD have rectified. That's what managers do, and I'm fairly confident there's no secret formula that other devs houses possess that somehow eludes Bioware.

And I do believe that technical limitations are the main culprit here, though it's entirely possible that these limitations can be overcome, and Bioware simply does not place a high priority on doing so, and chooses to focus on what they consider to be more important matters. Considering Bioware is rather unique as a development studio (with its focus on rather unique aspects), that may be more to the point.

Well, one of the first mods for DA2 was to put NPC hair into the CC.

I'd really love to have Josephine's hair if that's all a modder could do.

And yes, I've heard all the talk about the Frostbite 3 engine being "impossible" to mod.  I don't believe in impossible.

And I'm pretty sure hair like that would be "easier" if the game had a pre-set character with zero facial customization

Hair better or worse than da2?

Far worse, unfortunately. They don't even move and in DA:2 they did and they were overall better loooking. Also why are there the same hairstyles for both genders? I really don't need that many super-short (amost bald) hairstyles for my female character...

I was very happy with where they got with hair in DA2.

Even the length of hair they went with in DA:I, I could be fine with...they just made most of it boring/ugly instead of interesting/pretty.

Need more braids!

it's almost like the tried to correct the lack of Afros and fades in DAO/DA2 and put em all in this game.

My only hope at this point is that modders do the fan base and solid and get us some long locks cause I don't wanna use the same 3 hairstyles for all my characters.
