What is it with these awful hairstyles?

I love the hairstyles. They're appropriately stylized. I only wish there was more variety. it's a shame that the female characters only really get like 2 or 3 medium-length cuts.
Hopefully futures game would have more, since Bioware wouldn't have to make all the hair from scratch again

The two example hairstyles seem fine to me.
I mean, I personally dig long hair, but my wife and daughter love to explain to me what a pain is the azz long hair is.

Please tell me this isn't all of them.
If it is, I swear to God I'm gonna dedicate the next 48,000 posts I make to asking WHERE THE HELL OUR LONG HAIR OPTIONS ARE
I am so tired of having to go with short hair in Bioware games.

I think they look really good.
They aren't perfect, but hair is tricky, and Bioware has always struggled with it. But I still like it.

From what we know so far, we can apparently shave his facial hair but that's not the point.
The point I am making is the Red Engine renders and handles hair much better than Frostbite which might mean the Frostbite is not suited to high quality hairstyles.
There is a huge difference in only creating one hairstyle for a set character compared to providing several hairstyles for a variety of races. Come on. Testing alone would make a huge resource commitment let alone trying to avoid clipping and the time constraints. Choices are made. If they have fabulous hair in other games, then they gave something up to get it.
You can not like any of the hairstyles but once anyone implies that Bioware or the Devs are lazy or lacking quality in their work, that raises my hackles and makes me inclined to dismiss the complaints. Seriously, they brought back so much for DAI, races, extra romances, unique environments, tactical camera, just to name a few, that I find it disrespectful. Again, feel free to not like the hair and give constructive and polite feedback but stay away from slagging on the devs or making unrealistic comparisons to other games.
Edit: Not saying that you are directly calling them lazy but there have been a few posts seriously close to it. Just to clarify ![]()

Should I have faith they'll EVER do it? They had years with the older engines, it didn't happen then. They've switched to this one, it didn't happen with their first foray into it. Should I have any reason to believe this will change? Cause as someone with long hair, I'd like to finally be able to play as a character with hair maybe not quite as long as mine, but something that goes past the shoulders more than an inch at least, damn.
Closest I got was the ponytail in DAO.

Yeah...
You better get started on those 48,000 posts because from my understanding Bioware had problems with long hair options and decided to keep them mostly short.
But hey, both the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games have never really had very long hair options in the first place so I would assume you'd be used it by now.

It's possible that it can happen, but there's no guarantee. Long hair is really difficult in video games in general

I'd rather they be in the game from the start as well. But they're not. So if they offer a DLC with hairstyles and other things I like, I'll buy it.I do not want for us gamers to pay for DLC to fix horribly bland haircuts. Things like hairstyles, developers should get them right out of the box.
Most of the hairstyles look bland and they look like the Inquisitor has just gotten out of a bad barber shop.
As for saying that this is the Frostbite Engine which is mainly created to have soldiers with buzz cuts, that is no excuse because we have characters like Dorian and Josephine, both of whom have good looking hair.
It's not something I feel like they're intentionally cutting out now to make money off of later. Clearly they're struggling with it, and they've admitted as much. If you don't want to pay for something they offer, fine. I wouldn't want them to take away from something else to do it. Neither Dorian or Josephine have long hair, so I have no idea why that was the example used?

Of the hairstyles we have seen, minus the duplicates, there are 28: 2 buns, 1 ponytail, 1 half up, 4 sholder length, 2 mullets, 6 close cut, 12 very close cut.
I think the problem is the very obvious bias in hairdo's. Perhaps this is because shorter hair is easier to make, and so more can be made in less time. I can understand the viewpoint that more is always better. However, this doesn't leave much room to variate NPC's hairdo personalities in game. Also, it doesn't leave much room for some to create the character they truely want to create in their RP world. Maybe this was done because an emphasis has been made to create awesome looking helmets that many in NPC land will be sporting. Who knows? But to be honest, I personally am disapointed because of the lack of feminine hair. I play feminine characters, and with bioware's insistance that there is something for everyone (which has been demistrated in almost every other facet of this game(THANKS!
)) I find this bias...odd.
EDIT: when I say feminine I don't necessarily mean long hair. Some cute buns and ponytails would suffice. Even pigtails XD Sholder-length curly hair...just some variations. I actually really adore the hairstyles in previous games...

Or you know you could just get over it and move on.
Sounds a lot easier then stealing the Necronomicon, fighting off Deadites and finding out how to control ancient Babylonian demons.
Just saying.

So...you're complaining about a single hairstyle (maybe two since you didn't seem to like the other 'shaved' style)? I mean honestly...I don't get it...the game isn't catered toward you and other people have different taste. Personally...I love women with short hair, and shaved hair styles can look gooood....hell...just look at comicbookgirl19...
Regardless....there are plenty of "proper" options available to you and no one is forcing or even suggesting that you use a hairstyle that you don't like....honestly.....I think you just need to take a step back before making a topic like this
.
their aren't any hairstyles that aren't short or lank.

Don't, please don't reward companies for leaving out basic features and selling them as DLC.

tbh, I find them so much better than the DAO/DA2 rigid shoulder-length/super weird plastic ponytail/three-pigtails-of-awfullness that I'm not bothered at all. Hopefully that's not all of them and there's at least a couple more updos for variety's sake, but I'm definitely not waiting on long flowing L'Oréal commercial hair, and either way I'm pretty content.
The undercuts are almost definitely going to run into the same problem as the DA2 long bangs, though. Getting real dated, real fast. For now I'm happy to make a fem!quisitor with my own undercutty hair ![]()

I hate long hair as I had my hair short all of the time and I been like this for 50 years already and hairs here don't bother me one bit period. If you don't like then have them then have it shaved off.

I'm more concerned about textures than styles tbh. I don't mind short hairs. The original hairstyles in Origins had 2 I could tolerate for women, and those became the defaults for my characters. DA2 had more variety but the textures made Hawke look like she had "plastic helmet hair". I wish I could see the character creator better. Up close pics (like Sgt Harding) made the hair look like straw. A step up from "plastic" but still unattractive under close scrutiny.
If any modders are able to fix textures (I know FB is notoriously hard to mod) then hopefully that will be one of the first things released as mods. I am unsure how hard making hair meshes for the system will be, but if I recall correctly, while there are many nice hairdo mods for Origins and DA2, those (the long hair anyway) had a lot of clipping issues.
In a choice between short hair, or long hair that sinks into the neck/shoulders/armor, I'll opt short hair (or ponytail/braids).

does anyone mind showing what the female human hair styles look like or do they look exactly like the male hairstyles?
