I would rather not have guns in Dragon Age. Although universes such as Warhammer and Warcraft got them, they are more steampunk-themed, while Dragon Age is closer to earlier middle ages. Besides, guns are becoming too common in modern fantasy, so not having them feels somewhat refreshing. Another thing, considering how Qunari are strict with everything, it's very unlikely they would themselves develop this technology much, besides cannons. Nations such as Tevinter, are likely to be more focused on magic, so probably not many people are thinking about something like a gun, when magic can achieve similar results. Of course, it's a different thing for majority who are unable to use magic at all, but then again, likely no means to develop this technology. Anyway, I prefer DA staying as medieval fantasy rather than another renaissance/steam-punk one.

It depends isn't the land they are based in more humid and jungle like, not the idea setting to devolpe firearms in for personal side arms. Spears, and bows are more the way to go for range combat.

Not to mention that continuing to use spears and bows helps them keep the secret of how to make gunpowder. If their troops were equipped with small arms, there would be a higher chance of their enemies learning how to make gunpowder and gunpowder based weapons.

Admittedly, this is something I would consider more a rumor than a guarantee, so I wouldn't take it as gospel. From what I understood, there were 5 games total to comprise the franchise, but it could just end up being one more beyond Inquisition.

No idea where this rumour comes from. They'll keep making them as long as they keep selling well enough.

True  getting ahold of a firearm or even packets of the powder would be enough for the right race, say a dwarf or a surface dwarf to gain a keen grasp of the powder.

Maybe if they discover a land faraway that is similar to China, but there isn't a hint of an Eastern country existed in Thedas yet.

Hm, actually, I am not totally opposed to this idea like some others (more precise: the majority!) here...crude first-generation firearms etc can be cool, but only in the right setting and circumstances...

And that's the problem, guns might change Thedas forever. It's deadly "magic" that eventually can be used by any common man. It is armour-breaking and eventually superior to arbalests and crossbows and replace them as "knight-killers", which means the need for heavy armour is gone. I could go on, but suffice to say it would drastically change the way the Dragon Age Setting would look and feel and play...

Also I think with a focus of DA-franchise to be quite cinematic and often using close-ups on the chars during battles etc. the game(s) might end up too first-person-shootery to be still Dragon Age.

Yet I like the idea and don't think guns never have a place in fantasy. I really liked the setting of "Arcanum" back in the days, and I am looking forward to see how guns will be implemented in Pillars of Eternity. But I am not sure Dragon Age should use them (well, maybe generic Qunari soldiers could use them in Dragon Age: Exalted March, when we wipe out the Quanri threat and bring them under the heel of superior thedasian rule!)

They already know guns in thedas.

gunning word originated from the gun word.

In dragon Age 2:

"Watch your back around those templars. Word is they're gunning for you, Hawke."

 hehe, just kidding.

I am ready for it, bring the guns.

Explosives are already introduced, so it would make sense if guns show up.

When guns show up in a fantasy RPG, the series dies.   So no....  Please don't let DA die by introducing guns.   Leave those in sci fi games.

I am against guns outside of the Qun mostly because I want canons vs mages battles; not much fun if both sides have cannons :P

The early guns and rifles had some issues raw exlosives and cannons didn't. Even early cannons would sometimes blow apart from the force at which they expelled something at, even happens in this day in age if something isn't maintaine.

Oddly easier to make something blow up then it is to refine something into  a more refine use.

If they do early guns, want them blowing up on people or to stop working at some points.  And realistic load times.

Cannons that shoot mages?

I know the Templars would love that.

hmm how do i put this... No.

No guns in Dragon age.

The Qunari cannons fine but no personal firearms.

In Warcraft its steam-punk so it can get away with it , Warhammer.. well its Warhammer its damn crazy as it is (love it tho) so those 2 Fantasy settings aside , i hate when fire-arms are brought into fantasy games

And dragon age is very far away from the level of tech needed for that kind of gun.

Although most of those explosives were Lyrium-based. It was discussed in DA2 about the point of using that powder from Qunari, if Lyrium or magic can do the same.

I don't feel strongly one way or the other on the guns issue - it would all depend on how they were presented - but I don't think you can say that DA is "early middle ages".   Ferelden might be medieval-inspired, but Orlais seems to be a Renaissance society, Tevinter a classical one, and the Qunari seem to be pretty widely debated but are probably inspired by some golden age of technology, so there's clearly plenty of era mixing going on.  Given that, I don't think guns would necessarily be off from a lore perspective.

Yeah, there really is no single period in our time that can be applied to Dragon Age. I mean, the fashion alone seems to be a total mish-mash of late medieval-period, Renaissance, 16th and even 17th century influences, and then there's the stuff that's just total fantasy, in the aesthetic sense.

I don't see the problem with firearms in Dragon Age. With magic and enchanting the power balance of firearms can be equalized. It'd show that the people of Thedas are actually capable of advancing technology (seriously, at the lowest end we're looking at thousand years of technological stasis here) and bring something new to the table that isn't magic.

Maybe make them dwarf restricted. Gives dwarf players something awesome that other players crave for their own races.

It took about a century in europe to get from gunpowder to the first actual guns and china had gunpowder for centuries without actually developing guns.

Thedas has already made use of gunpowder and explosives. We should be able to use guns sometime soon.

Maybe you should play CoD or something else of that nature?
