On a side note, rather than addind guns, I would like weapons such as pikes and halberds. Very often fantasy games shy away from them, or make them only appear on non-playable characters. Stabbing was a very common combat method, although perhaps some people would deem this form of combat unsightly or unhonourable for a "hero".

Yes, give me spear and pikes and halberds. Spears would be something cool to use. and a different way to fight for either a rogue or warrior.

Yeah in a way you're right, but it wouldnt say its full on renaissance, it's like a hybrid, def some Gothic in there don't forget of course that the Sainte chapelle is Gothic

PS: By not renaissance I ment it isn't early modern warfare

I really hope that we can see something based on Sainte Chapelle IG, because damn is it gorgeous. But even if I am not catholic I am a sucker for stained glass in churches, they are so pretty.

I'm fine with guns being in DA, but only after a few centuries have passed where technology would have reasonably advanced to such weaponry.

What exactly do you mean by a personal firearm? Do you mean a rifle like we know today? Or do you mean the older rifles that were used in the colonial wars in the US? Such as the flintlock rifle, please see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flintlock  If firearms or weapons ever were to be introduced into Thedas or Dragon Age, it would probably and most likely be as a type of flintlock weapon. Personally, I don't think that this is necessary since Thedas have mages...

That would be skipping a few steps as far as firearm progression goes (though of course it's not like the evolution of guns in Thedas would have to resemble our own history at all), it would probably be a matchlock or a handgonne.

The future of dragon age

Steam Punk Age

Ok had to, has much has I would love a steam punk game hasn't been a good one since the late 90s, don't think it would mesh wiell with dragon age stuff. They would have to resolve the dark spawn, ensure one of the most tech able races makes it through a few ages and so on. But that could be the next few games for all we know, just would take a few ages to get things done to a proper setting for both magic and tech to be equal. Think the 1800s mid to late.

I'm... actually trying very hard to remember a fantasy setting that went to hell because of firearms.

So far I'm drawing up blanks, just good settings... warcraft, warhammer, might and magic, almost every final fantasy...hell, even magic the gathering had guns at one time.

Guns could be an interesting addition to the mix. Personally I would want them to bring back crossbows and swords for rogues first, but different strokes... etc. However, I don't get why people are saying guns shouldn't be in the game because they are ineffective compared to guns today. Surely that just means they would be more balanced with DA:I weapons then the guns of today i.e. they would be easier to include.

Mirabelle from Jade Empire shows how a gun can be included in a game mostly focused on other weapon types (in the case of Jade mostly swords and martial arts)

The gun had great range and damage but also took ages to load and limited maneuverability... an Easter Egg in DA2 is that Varric comments that he named his crossbow Bianca because the name Mirabelle was already taken. Possibly suggesting the one universe?

I want spears and other halbard weapons as well crossbows first. Though I imagine if in da4 we get to deal with the Qun heavily then we might get to use gunpowder weapons.

Early guns were outranged by bows. Bows also had a much higher rate of fire. The accuracy of early firearms was quite pitiful as well. Full suits of armor were still worn by some well into the 1500s, they were simply reinforced to provide protection against bullets. Early guns, in my opinion, seem much too cumbersome to be implemented effectively.

I wouldn't mind if the Qunari showed up with some really archaic-looking blunderbuss type rifles in a future DA game, since they already have Gaatlok powder, and cannons, and it makes sense for them to develop the technology further.  But it'd only be a worthwhile addition if they were meaningfully differentiated from bows/crossbows in terms of gameplay.  I'm thinking a sort of short-range weapon that fires a cone-shaped spread, with high damage and a low rate of fire.  As distinct from a longbow which would be have a long range and a relatively high rate of fire, but only ever hit a single target.  So each would have its strengths and weaknesses.

I'd also be totally fine with them never including guns though.  As at least one other person above has said, I'd rather see them expand our pool of melee weapons to include polearms.

This would be a great idea for a steampunk sort of game. Think of something like dishonoured, where there's guns and magic and tech.

I envision a dwarf selling his lyrium enchanced pistols that can pierce through thick armors, or selling flasks of antivan fire.

The mage cant access two handed weaponry, but can utilise spells to compliment a knife or pistol.

Qunari would be using their powder to explosive effect.

Could be fun. But in the current dragon age setting?

No.

I don't like guns in a high fantasy game. I like sword, bows, and staves. ON THAT NOTE, Fable 2 and Fable 3 used guns (which I did not like as I preferred the archery from the original)

We won't see guns until the next age in Thedas (whatever that is...) and I wouldn't expect anything that great, magical projectiles essentially make the types of guns you'd see in Thedas obsolete, hell the magical projectiles give even our current guns a run for their money. And the type of guns you should expect, IF we see them are arquebus, around the 15th century, wheel-lock rifles. Not very effective, but certainly scary to people who had not seen a gun.

No guns please. I remember people were talking about guns in the Skyrim message board too. It would ruin the whole medieval theme for me.

While I will admit that I don't care much for guns in Dragon Age. It is medieval, well late medieval. One of the earliest recorded usage of canons and other gunpowder weapons was in the 14th century which is by almost everyone part of the middle ages.
