Hello,

I've run into a few minor issues with the toolset, and I'm hoping some of you more experienced builders can help:

1) I'm having trouble attaching doors. I've tried both with and without snap, but they seem to have a mind of their own! Does anyone have any tips on how to make this less grueling?

2) Can you turn off the roof in the toolset somehow when working with tiles? It would make it a lot easier to see.

3) Somewhat unrelated,I am having a weird problem where torches don't work, you can equip them but they have no flame and give off no light. Does anyone know how to fix this?

4) Is there a way to turn area lighting off and use a default bright light? It would make visibility easier for me.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

1) Move the door slightly around the hook point, in the end it will snap into position.

Note that some tiles (the castle ones namely) have wrongly oriented hook points.

2) Well, I've always seen the tiles without the roof when I was working on interior areas. Maybe try to zoom in/out or change the orientation of the view?

3) In the toolset or in game? I know some visual effects don't work in the toolset. If in game, you'd probably need to use an OnEquip script to add a visual effect ("torchhand")

4) Yes, in the area properties, under the "Environment" settings, tick the box in front of "Has a directional light" (not sure of the translation, my version is French).

If it's still not enough, I also add a temporary light (don't forget to delete it when you've finished - same for the directional light, or your area will be lit as in broad daylight).

I'll try to help, but my knowledge is limited on these subjects.

1. Try turning on the visibility of hook points.  That's what doors snap to.  If there's a hook point that's causing the door to snap where you don't want it, I think you may be able to delete it.  If it's a door that doesn't have to open, then you could use a door placeable instead, which won't snap to hook points at all.

3.  In-game, this is a common problem I've seen.  Moreover, it doesn't seem to happen to all torches.  I don't know how to fix it, but perhaps try a different torch?

4. If you're using a day-night cycle in that area, then you can brighten up the "Default" lighting conditions as bright as you want, without affecting how it will look in-game.  If you're not using a day-night cycle, then you can switch the view to "Daytime" or something and brighten that one up to see better in the toolset.  Without a day-night cycle, only the "Default" lighting will show in-game.

1. If you have multiple door openings in the same frame, you can get the annoyance of the door snapping to the wrong door. What I usually do then is zoom in until the door is the only opening in the view. On most tiles the door hook point is located to the lower left of the door opening, so that's where I move the cursor. If it doesn't snap right away, slowly move the door away from the corner and toward you. At a certain point the door will snap back into the opening.

2. Not really. The toolset shows the entire tile model, including ceiling parts with the surface normal directed toward you. It can't be helped.

1) move the door model around the hook point. sometimes it takes a bit of time but eventually you'll notice the snap.

2) nope. i bet 4760 is using moded tiles where the roof is deleted.

3) you don't need to fiddle around with tag based scripting. the vanilla torches do their job without any additional work needed. try to test this with the standard torch blueprint and an empty override directoy.

4) if you altered the default day/night time to reflect the area light you want you could simply switch to a another time of day (e.g. sunrise) within the editor. that should be bright enough to see everything.

I've never seen the roof of tiles while in the toolset, unless I zoom in far enough to be beneath the ceiling (and try to look up). Perhaps there's a toolset setting somewhere that turns their visibility off?

I'd like to know, if there is one.  Some tilesets show roof bits worse than others, like the crypt tileset.  Estate, too, to a lesser extent.

as tchos i like to know too. afaik there's no setting, besides using custom tiles where the roof is deleted. could you please make a screenshot of the crypt tileset in the toolset where no roof is visible? it's right that there's backface culling but that ain't enough in many cases, as parts are still visible.

Thanks for all the replies so far! The torch issue happens in game, but I did some research and read about a bug. Apparently, if you buy a torch from a merchant they don't work. I tested this and found that torches I pick up off the ground work fine.

Also, thanks for the idea of using a "work light" placeable!

You are correct about the bugged torches. I recall purchased torches being broken in-game.

That's weird. I've got torch variants that have VFX and lights using the same method as regular torches (an SEF attached to it, rather than an item property), and they work fine when purchased.

I wonder if the torch blueprint in the OC was changed at some point, but the versions already in stores weren't updated?

Same as Dann-J

No, I'm using the standard tilesets mostly.

I just checked the toolset options, but didn't see any setting that would allow hiding/showing the roof.
