For over a month I was all set on making my Inquisitor a warrior tank but now I've changed my mind. I would rather dish out some damage than be a tank.

I've settled on a ranged dps character but I can't decide between the Archer and the Mage. From what I can estimate from gameplay footage: The archer will have better survivability and single target damage while the mage will have better crowd control and support versatility. Should I go archer or mage in Inquisition?

Archer + Tempest.

It will make you fee like a mage...but with a bow.

Archer Tempest Specialization.

Why settle with one when you can have both.

Tempest is designed to be the Rogue's Mage Specialization.

Be a Knight Enchanter. Mages don't have to hide in corners when big dangerous things come at them.

Archer + Tempest.

I could be wrong but it sounds like the Tempest would be more suitable for a melee rogue. On the tempest description it says: "These unpredictable experts specialize in using alchemical mixtures that wreathe them in frost or flame. Fast, chaotic, and possibly mad, they wade into the fight and dare enemies to face the storm."

I believe that all specializations are working for all weapon types, thus in the case of rogues for both bow and daggers.

Spec aren't weapon specific.

Tempest mostly apply elemental damage to attacks and I think there is one skill that turn you into a rolling fireball. Sorta. It does say possibly mad.

Why not both; I will be playing an archer (tempest) first, followed by a mage (rift) :P

Keep in mind it might take a considerable amount of time to unlock that speciliazation.

Rogues have traditionally been better at single target damage, while mages have powerful AoE. Evidence would suggest this is still the case in Inquisition.

One aesthetic factor is that archers have usually been short-changed when it comes to cool animations inside cutscenes and cinematics. You can't triumphantly thrust your bow at the sky to the cheering of the crowd like you could a sword or a staff.

Go mage. Why shoot pointy sticks at people when you can hurl the fabric of reality itself at your opponents?

Ranged DPS seems more archer, with gameplay it seems more of the mage spells are aoe and battlefield control.

Archer because the mage companions look better than the rogue companions.

My personal bias says pick mage. You get cool spells, and you have power at you fingertips that can do some serious damage. Then I looked at the archer tree and rogue abilities. I *am* tempted to play as a rogue. It's tricky to make a choice when you have two options you like.

It's up to you. Flip a coin if you must. It sounds random, but see where you go from there.

Remember that even if you pick one, your companions can be the other.

I really like mage classes but have fallen in geeky love with the tempest class.

i find tossing a coin the best way to solve a problem.

Mages can throw balls of fire at people that explode and turn everyone in the immediate vicinity into Enemy Flambé. Go with Mage.

I believe this is what the common mage says in his head. And they wonder why templars exist  <_<

Ugh, really hate it when people call mage a race.

Anyway, mage.

(I would say whatever you believe you will have the most fun with honestly)

I am doing a mage(necro/rift have not decided) first game because I love those pesky little buggers and then an archer in my second.

Be a Tempest and you can embarrass mages - that will make them angry - their anger will make them susceptible to the demons they draw naturally... and poof.  The haughty mage just became an abomination.

And thankfully.. you're a Tempest, so you can take care of the once proud and haughty mage with fire and frost from a distance.
