Ok maybe don't play with me.

I dunno, this stuff was pretty entertaining.

Make sure to join a reefa bronze lobby for access to one of his swiss bank accounts.

If he's playing.

But yeah, add me if you feel like carrying an Irish scrub through bronze.

How long have you been using PC? Do you play console in between?

I think muscle memory is fairly quick but I easily confuse keybindings between games, too.

I think I got the game maybe a year or so ago on PC, but haven't clocked much time on it at all - just a little over 41 hours matchtime according to N7 HQ. Basically, I just pop on PC every now and again when I feel like doing a couple of matches, but largely I console game. I was trying to do a "Friday Night Origin" thing where I'd play 3-4 matches on PC on Friday nights, but that schedule sorta went away and now it's just totally random. :P

I'm sure I could muscle memory my way to a better PC performance through lots of practice, but between an extreme preference for a controller in my hands and the fact that I limit any PC gaming to about 2-3 hours tops so as not to burn out my poor laptop, PC gaming is likely to always lag behind for me until/if I ever upgrade to a real gaming rig.

Other than rebinding the consumables to something more comfortable (eg: QEZX), the default layout should really be fine. It's a pretty bog standard PC game layout, for everything from shooters to third person adventures to MMOs. You could try to change it, but then you will have to change the layout in damn near every game you ever play on PC. Might as well just get used to it so that almost every other PC game will only be a minor adjustment for you by default.

Only major change I made was to swap the Space and Shift keys, because Shift is the standard key for Sprint in most games, and Space has been Pause in every previous BioWare game I can remember since Baldur's Gate, so I don't know whose stupid idea it was to change that...

I've used the same keybinds for a couple of decades, with my left hand on the home row. SD is left/right, FV is forward/back. Everything around those depends on what game I'm playing, but in the case of ME3, I've got 123 bound to QWE, R is reload, ZXC is ops/gels/packs. Mouse wheel switches weapons, mouse thumb buttons are melee and turbofire. Space is the omnibutton, Tab is scores, Alt is voice chat.

So far this setup seems the most natural and compact so I'll give it a go. I don't have a gaming mouse so I'll have to change some things around, mainly melee. Should I invest in a mouse with more buttons on it? If so, what are some recommendations? I don't need a $100 mouse.

Ya, that's probably not enough to train the twitchy fingers. It could be worse, though - imagine a PC player getting his hands on a controller - I bet I'd keep pressing the wrong buttons all the time and in the end it would be broken.

The only key i've changed is medigel to middle mouse button to make reload cancelling simple.

Same here - except I use the thumb button on the mouse.

I prefer to have the RC button away from my firing finger, cause seems easier

It's on my thumb button and I tend to press it with vigour so I miss the shot.

For me it was key to settle to a keyboard configuration that felt comfortable and that I can use for any game.

I always use the arrow keys for forward/back and strafing with my left hand. This also gets me easy access to numpad, space, Enter and the PgUp/PgDwn key group. If you have big hands this should be a comfortable setup as there is some space between the keys. For ME3MP, I have mapped powers to 1,2,3 ok the keypad, 5/6/8 is Missile/Ops Pack/Thermal Pack. 0 on numpad is melee. PgDwn for Medigel and RC.

I use the mouse with my right hand. Thumb mouse button for the run/omni-key, middle mouse for reload and wheel up/down for weapon change.

I used to use a Microsoft laser mouse til it died, then I replaced it with a Logitech VX Nano, but that's dying too. Probably anything by Microsoft, Logitech, or Razer wouldn't be too bad, but others would probably be more qualified to answer this than me. I've never had anything that might remotely be called serious gaming quality.

First off, congrats on running with the pizza on the first try; I still haven't been able to with over 600 hours pc practice.

Yep. Over 800 hours played, didn't manage to run with the pizza once. It's the only thing I'm ashamed of in ME3. ^^

Steelseries. Roccat. To name a couple more. It's a very varied market sector.

Hack files, give your self 10 billion credits, max out your manifest then put the game away for good....that's how the master race rolls.

Well as a PC gamer I got the same feeling when I tried to play on PS4 for first time.
I'm using the default layout but I change key bindings for powers on certain characters. Usually I set key 2 for the power I use most often, and when playing characters capable of making combos, I set 2 for primer and 3 for detonator.
Also I bind missile and ops pack to sidekeys on mouse to make sure they can be drawn extremely fast.

G500 mouse here, with all 8 buttons used for the powers.  I remapped the seconday key for power 7, medigel, to CTRL so that I can use my pinky to reload cancel.  As said, learn to reload cancel ASAP; it's a great trick to have!

Ok so I went with this setup:

S/D is left/right. F/V is forward/back. Remapped powers to Q/W/E. I originally mapped Thermal Packs/Rockets/Ops Packs to Z/X/C, but I kept fat fingering ops packs when I wanted to move backwards, so I put them on 1/2/3 respectively now. Reload is R, melee is G, and Medi Gel is A. That works out really well for reload canceling since that's where my pinky rests naturally with this setup.

Fired up a couple Silver games last night to try it out and it worked really well. Finished 1st and 2nd respectively with the Destroyer and Vanilla Asari Adept. I wanted my first game to basically get used to moving and shooting, and then moved up to a class that used powers. It's going to take some getting used to with strafing and dodging for sure. Also I keep sticking to cover and for some reason am having trouble getting off. I'm sure I"ll get used to it all in time. Hopefully my brain and hands sort their crap out so I can move up to Gold soon! I also need to get good with melee because I want my Grunt Dog of War banner back

Erry time people complain about WASD+mouse I feel really, really old.

Back in the good old days of Quake 3 Arena we laughed about those pitiful console kiddies and "aim assist" was a bannable exploit. Good times.

Oh!  And make sure your frame rate is REALLLLY high, as high as possible.  Turn down the graphics settings if necessary.

Don't actually do this.  Unless you're a masochist.

By the way, can anyone give me turbofire setup for dummies? How to get and map a turbofire setup to my mouse. I am getting a Logitech mouse with two side buttons, and I plan on one being melee and the other being turbofire for the lolz.
