How about I relieve you of that fear?
Do you like cats?
Of course you do.
It just makes me so happy.

Very true.
It was really only the ones that were on the skin that bothered me...beehives and like the holes you see for like a wasp's nest don't do it. But the other ones of the holes on the skin? Ugh, man. It just made me feel itchy and just uneasy. I scrolled through a few pages before I just noped out.
That texture weirds me out too.
Textures in general weird me out in general- especially food. Like kiwi really makes me cringe.
If they don't deserve death, why don't you feel sorry for killing them?
I mean, hell, if I were put in such a scenario in reality, and it was my life or theirs, of course I'd choose my life too. I don't deserve to die either. But I'd still feel like **** for having to do that. I would still absolutely deeply regret being forced to kill a creature who was never given a choice whether or not to fight me.
Whereas if a mentally sound, free-thinking human made a choice to try and kill me, and I was forced to kill that person in the course of defending myself, I don't think I'd be too bothered.
I've always found this attitude kind of baffling myself.

That was not nice! Why did I click???
I'll never understand why people are afraid of spiders. Who here has even been bitten by a spider?

For me it's not a fear of the spider.
I have an overactive imagination (or possibly just a weird epidermis) that can manufacture physical feelings. So I see a spider whether virtual or real and I feel as if they're crawling all over me. It's a combination of the fact that they just look creepy and that I can feel thousands of furry legs on me.
I know it's not real, hence why it's a phobia.
Furry legs? Just like dogs. At least they're not slimy or sticky. Ever stepped on a slug or touched a snail trail? ![]()

Those legs are nothing like dogs. I wrestle with my collies every day. It's the... scuttling that they do.
Also, if you could tone down the condescension, I'd really appreciate it. I know you don't understand the why, but it's still a phobia and deserves compassion.

i have been, and no, i'm not afraid of spiders.
also have been bitten by cats, dogs and hamsters. a duck and a goat aswell.
eventually i got over my goatphobia once i sacrificed one to the great lord cthulu.

nice to hear i'm not the only one with an overactive imagination but i've never had the problem if being afraid of it. but isn't it partially natural instinct that bugs should sorta freak us out ? considering most of em are either venomous or disease carrying mother*****.
edit: i mean, i feel uneasy watching a tarantula but damn, they're fascinating aswell. curiousity generally trumps the uneasy feeling i get.

I can't handle tarantulas, to me those are the absolute worst!
I miss the tarantula that used to hang out by me at that one hole-in-the-wall shisha cafe near Tahrir.
I'm just going to point out, that in most cases with people with serious phobias, they are well aware that their fear has reached irrational heights, but that awareness will not stop their body's physiological response to adverse stimuli. There's a big difference between being afraid of something and having a phobia and people without phobias tend to not truly understand.
So when someone admits to a phobia, try not to regard their fears with a condescending attitude.
Secondly, fear of spiders is incredibly common and arachnophobia is amongst the most commonly experienced phobias. Just because spiders are small, it doesn't mean all of them are harmless. Black Widows hide in dark corners, as does the brown recluse. I've also been told there is a poisonous spider in Australia who's preferred hiding spot is in laundry and bedsheets (admittedly, hearing that terrifying story, I have not looked it up and someone else is welcome to if they wish to debunk that or not). So fear of spiders really isn't a huge leap of the imagination. They'll also small and generally everywhere, whether you seem them or not, which is creepy. Like most insects.
Anyway, there's a--somewhat scientific--theory I read about a few years back (4 years ago, maybe) about ancestral memory and how it ties into fears in childhood and eventual phobias later in life. For earlier human civilizations with poor medical care and high mortality rates, heights, the dark, spiders, wolves and the like were a danger and potentially life threatening. If you notice, a lot of kids tend to have nightmares about these things, even if say, they never saw a wolf once in their life. It's not until later do we learn to fear different, more time-relevant matters, like murderers.
As for the OP, I don't think there will be any immediate mods but if you're playing on PC someone might eventually be able to switch assets around. Otherwise I'd use tactical camera where necessary and disengage from battle whenever you can. Video games, could however, help alleviate your phobia if you find a character with a spider motif that is generally likeable. For instance, I am petrified of spiders and they have given me plenty of panic attacks but playing as Elise from League of Legends has helped me in regard to dealing with them in video games and in movies. Still don't want them in my house though. Doubt that will ever change.
(There's probably a lot of typos in there, but I don't feel like looking for them.)

Thank you for this.
I can play DA and fight the spiders, but afterwards I have to pause. I have to sit and breathe through it, and rub my arms to get the tactile feelings and panic to subside before I can continue forward.
In the case of DA2 spiders, I actually screamed throughout the whole fight (because I couldn't zoom-out) while fighting with my eyes half closed. I avoided all side quests that would bring me back to those areas just in case.
could be worse
you could be like me and be ornithophobic.
talking to Leliana is going be ultra fun as I practice breathing exercise and try not to have a panic attack

That sucks dude. But hey, you're in the same boat as Scarlett Johansson so that's a small comfort to take pleasure in.
Well I would take pleasure in it but that's just me.
Cats terrify me! Especially kittens, one clawed me once....please do not post photos of kittens. I almost didn't play the other games because of sir-claws-alot.

well I live in Australia... swooping magpies is real
that pretty much sums it up ![]()
I did have a nice laugh at the end of the Shale quest where you reactivate her
Thanks! I put a lot into that one.
Little fact, I'm intensely trypophobic (fear of holes and specific hole patterns). To the point of dry heaving, skin itching and panic suffering. When I first saw the concept I was entranced, like a deer caught in headlights. Making it was definitely....an experience. Nothing like facing your own fears or something along those lines....
Oh wow - Blinky is one of your sculpts/models? Awesome.
That's a 'Mature' rating just in one creature !
Actually - new ESRB rating is in order:

The wit is strong in this one. ![]()
Here is another piccy of Blinky taken from the achievements topic (probably not a good idea for major arachnophobes to look at it as he is BIG). All I want to know if it it can bleed. Because "If it can bleed... we can kill it!"
Spoiler
See, blinky doesn't actually scare me. Strange as that seems.

Very much so, it's not spider-like. I think what gets me are the 8 furry legs. I mean, the 8 eyes aren't pleasant either but I can deal with those.
