You know when you're exploring and all of a sudden those nasty spiders come down from the ceiling right in front of you? I literally jump on my damn chair. every. damn. time. Even when I'm like "I know there's going to be spiders here" lol

I don't consider myself an arachnophobe but I will scream like a little girl if I see one on a wall. But it feels good to kill them in the game, so yay, more spiders to kill!

I totally agree this thing is just beyond creepy.  .....it has no eyes and yet it's looking directly into my soul.

Mabari are bred for war.

Um, this was her point. Animals bred for war don't have a choice about being bred for war, and thus killing them feels somehow immoral. The mabari didn;t wake up one day and be 'I want to become a soldier.' It was conditioned by humans over the course of its life to fight.

I've always wondered, if you have arachnophobia, are you also scared of scorpions?

Yes, scorpions are arachnids.

It was bred for it. Over several lifetimes those dogs have been taught and trained on how to kill a man. The dogs you fight in the game are not the dogs that were forced into this. The dogs you see are prepared to kill you.

Usually not, from my experience (I seem to know a lot of arachnophobes). They usually have a 'If I see one I will probably keep a firm distance' rather than a phobic terror reaction.

I can see how it is an envy demon. The many arms resemble the uncontrollable desire for more. Constant reaching out and taking what you don't need. The lack of eyes resembles the inability to know what you want. Many envious people (according to the sin) don't know what they need in life so they take what they want instead.

That's my take on why it looks the way it does.

I think any sane person would to be fair. I'm just wondering why they call it arachnophobia when the classification of arachnid contains more than spiders.

Is this not a joke? Phobia of digital pixelated spider? I'm acrophobia but i don't seem to have problem playing Assassin's Creed.

Well, technically 'arachnid' comes from 'arachne', which is Greek for 'spider'.

You could consider it similar to the way 'anti-Semitic' refers specifically to anti-Jewish hate speech/groups, even though there are non-Jewish semitic peoples. It's a word, which, etymologically, might imply a broader meaning but is used with regards to a certain specificity (in this case a fear of spiders as opposed to a fear of spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites, and solifugae, among others).

Several arachnophobes have issues with visual-representations of spiders (in extreme cases, a circle with lines coming off it can set them off). It depends on the intensity of the phobia.

Phobia doesn't just mean being scared of something. It can cover a wide array of different things. For example, people scared of clowns are actually scared of what that person could do, not what it is. It likely stems from seeing a clown do something that you think is magic for example, turning a balloon into an animal. You cannot say it is a joke to be afraid of something you don't understand yourself.

Sounds more like common greed. Envy is specifically desiring somethings others already have and whilst having another set of arms is definately helpful in trying to steal things, it doesn't really scream "I want your stuff" specifically.

I guess at least there probably won't be any arachnids just dropping in out of nowhere, you'll probably be able to see them before you engage in combat.

I want Cazadores in DAI.

THEN people have something to complain about. An added side-effect: the inspiration for Cazadores are wasps that prey on spiders. Win-Win!

No, Greed includes theft and robbery. Envy is more about jealousy and desiring what other people have but not necessarily stealing from them. Have you seen Borat, when his neighbour buys a cheaper version of whatever Borat buys. What is shown there is Envy.

Also not a fan, but they don't bother me in games as much as spiders do.

I think that's the idea. Preparation is key in this game so if you get jumped by a bunch of spiders, you aren't going to be prepared and could possibly die in the process from not being ready.

I would like a scorpion mount. I believe some early game concepts show tevinters riding them.
