Looks pretty big to me.

Spoiler

i absolutely love spiders! atleast the ones that cant kill me. was even bit by one small one once. felt like being pinched by a tiny little girl.

She was using something I enjoyed doing.  After I told her that my fear was so great that even in gaming I was having problems with heights, she asked me about the games I was playing.  I had to admit that in Assassin's Creed when scaling things like the inside of huge cathedrals my hands sweated so much that I had to put the controller down and walk away, or that if my toon fell from a great height (because you can't climb with your eyes shut!) I could actually feel the blood draining from my head, she suggested we use AC as part of the therapy.  That suited me, because at that point I was seriously afraid I'd have to stop playing.  One of the exercises was to pretend to be Altair, and to walk around her office basically channeling all his confidence.  Or to sit  with my eyes closed and imagine that I was looking out across Damascus from one of the viewpoints.  I felt a bit stupid at first, but again, it worked.

that's awesome ! the visualizing never did work for my fear. but then again, i think my fear cant really classify as a phobia.

The best way to cure phobia is by repeated exposure to what cause the fear. If you have panic attacks, you might want someone else there with you while you face the spiders in the game.

i'm curious, what if repeated exposure doesnt help ? :P

Screw spiders! I want a mod to get rid of these things.....

*shudders*

he's just like the spider ''i want to hug you with all the arms that i got'' overly attached hellspawn meme*

the only thing i ever got nightmare's from was a big ass doll i got from my grandfather like 1.5 times my height. saw jurassic park  when i was 5. played resident evil when i was like 12? not a problem. but ****, that damn doll. even gives me shudders when im thinking about it.

Hell, to be a complete hypocrite after discussing my game arachnophobia, I want a spider mount.  Charge!

oo!!! spider mount, i´d love a spider mount. i´d name him webster. that or fluffy if he´s hairy.

Broodmother?

Yes, that creature is just messed... even the idea behind them... that chant... *shudders* I hope there isn't an updated version of them in DA:I.

Another one has to be The Mother from Awakening... that is also messed up...

Don't forget her spawn. Unsettling baby faces. CHECK. Far too many limbs (And growing more as they attack!)? CHECK. Habit of tackling the player to the ground and disemboweling them with their little fangs? CHECK.

Someone must have been having a bad day when they thought of all that. That stuff could scar someone for life.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing....only I will remain"

Lithany against fear - Frank Herbert - Dune

Start learning it by heart!   No seriously, facing the things you fear and letting them wash over you does bring you closer to realising what kind of person you really are.

Get over it.

No, but really, phobias are not necessarily permanent weaknesses. Therapy or even simply gradual experiences can help you get past them. There are a lot of mental tactics you can use to stop fearing spiders. I used to be afraid of tight spaces but I've used various techniques to master my mind in these circumstances. You can do it too.

  I freak out if I see a spider IRL, but I'm not constantly thinking about them if I don't see them, and I have no problem with looking at game-spiders. But Blinky is soooooooo disgusting, those....things...all over its body.....I literally feel my skin crawling and my stomach turning as I look at it. Horrible, cruel monster designers :( I definitely will have to use tac-cam for this guy!

You might be trypophobic, as I am (that's actually what really bothers me about Blinky, despite being mild to moderately arachnophobic - it's the ****** eyes all over. Ugh, right out of my nightmares, he is. klfaflkadfjklaf Literally the only thing I've seen for Inquisition thus far that I am at all truly bothered by... :( ). It's essentially a fear or extreme revulsion of closely clustered small holes or sometimes bumps/strange textures, and can vary from being bothered by certain clustered skin infections/rashes to honeycombs to lotus seed pods, to things covered in eyes, like Blinky.

... And I'll leave it at that, because I'm getting super itchy all over just describing it. :P

He can drown and die via radiation.

no. if he drowns he is in a perpetual state of dying. not being dead. (in the movie they just went like ''oh look what a big fish i caught ! it's a hairy canadian'' *pic* and seconds later it was flopping around again)

oh, and he was there in hiroshima when the bomb exploded during ww2 and that didn't get him.

Sorry guys, I should've given warning about Googling it... It's not officially classified as a "proper" phobia, but there's a lot of people who have an issue with it, so it's still generally considered "a Thing" and it seems to be somewhat common-ish. It's by far my worst/only real notable phobia, personally. The others I manage fine, this is... blegh. Damn you, Blinky!

Sooo... giant spiders! I'll be happy to squish them. <_<

Googled it, all I saw was hilariously bad photoshops and one delicious looking pizza that made me hungry. Personally can't empathize how people would get queasy from stuff like that, but then again, phobias ARE irrational so I guess I'm in the clear. Now excuse me, I gotta go raid the fridge (damn you pizza!).

I happen to be a huge dragon fan , but the only reason i could play origins and dragon age 2 was because people had created mods to replace spiders with mabari or bears in dragon age nexus.

Is it possible that this can be done in dragon age inquisition , please i want to play a spider free game without panic attacks

I have been reading through this thread and think that people need to realize not everyone has the equal amount of "fear" a phobia may produce.

My friend and I both say we have Clown phobias. I can deal with clowns if I need to at fair or festival. I'll avoid them and I don't put pictures up of them and I wouldn't go have fun in a clown-themed haunted house.  My friend literally. can't. even.

We're just not equal amounts of scared of clowns.

So maybe you don't like dogs. Maybe Cujo isn't your idea of a fun afternoon family film. But just because you aren't bothered by Snoopy doesn't mean that someone who is afraid of spiders shouldn't be bothered by creepy-ass video game spiders.

Its all relative, you know? Fear is hard to quantify.

Just because the color yellow is a total batshit irrational fear doesn't mean we should make people ashamed for being afraid of yellow.

Group hug! Death to clowns!

Group hug!

Yes group hug! Especially with the BioWare people. Lots of hugging them. And not letting go. Unless we get extra content, or else their employees shall forever remain hugged!

Everyone, this is a Hug-Up!!!

And now all I picture is a very uncomfortable looking David Gaider totally grossed out by all the public touching.

man, i am arachnophobic too, but not to the point where i get scared seeing spiders in a video game.  most video game spiders look like delicious candies with legs.  it's only if i see one in real life that i freak out.

I guess that's a better explanation than the other guy.

My girlfriend has so damn many phobias I lost track a long time ago, and I've known her since we were kids. Hell she's still scared of the dark. She's 24 mind you. And I guess I never really understood her fears. :/

When I went to a psychologist about my extreme fear of heights, she used the Leap of Faith from Assassin's Creed as part of our sessions - it did help!  :D

I don't (think I) have a particularly great fear of heights.  But playing Tomb Raider: 2013, I definitely found myself tensing before taking some of the leaps that game requires.  And climbing the radio tower to try to get a signal to the outside world was one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the entire adventure for me!

So I understand that one can come to grips with one's "real" fears through video games.  Good on your therapist for suggesting this approach, and good on you for following through!

It may not be the wisest thing to post pics or gifs of spiders in a thread title "Arachnophobic." Especially without spoiler tags.

It's also not at all helpful to tell people to "get over it."  If you can't add something valuable to the conversation, there is no need for you to make noise and flail your arms. Your need for attention from strangers on the internet - get over it.   <_<

These remind me very strongly of the monster from Pan's Labyrinth:

Which is actually really cool since that monster is the best kind of terrifying.  Did anyone else make this connection?
