Which is better: Locust or Tempest?

The Locust seems to have good damage but less rate of fire while The Tempest has a massive rate of fire but poor damage.

Even after being hugely nerfed it's still superior to Tempest IMO. The accuracy is better, rate of fire is OK, damage is good. What I like about it the most is reload speed. It compensates for somewhat slow RoF compared to Tempest.

SMGs are quite useless in ME3 IMO (base game at least). They are no longer effective for dropping shields due to the enemies rolling away and dodging your shots. The only thing they can be useful for is applying ammo powers rapidly while still having 200% cooldown, which again, can be achieved with certain assault rifles and mods (Geth Pulse Rifle).

Locust is much better than Tempest, especially if you happen to have Marksman.  It will mow down mooks, which are the vast majority of the enemies you face in SP, at least as long as you take advantage of the higher than normal headshot multiplier.

Of course the Punisher and Hurricane both do so much damage w/o Marksman that they are still largely better.  But if you don't have DLC and don't want to unlock the Hurricane, the Locust isn't too bad.  As above though, you don't get it until Horizon, which is late in the game.  The Tempest can be found during the Tuchanka arc if you are inclined.

Hornet is not too bad and is acquired only a couple missions after the Tempest can be.

Vazgen, not even mentioning the Harrier is a sin :o

Edit: Crap, I didn't mentioned the Saber either....I'm an idiot ¬¬ (doing 3 Saber vs Geth MP matches as punishment).

Slow rate of fire, small ammo capacity, only available on Horizon. Not for me :)

Slow rate of fire? Well, yes, but if you know what you're doing, one shot is enough :D Let me put an example:

*Grissom Academy, two Cerberus guys harassing the guys inside a shield*

- Cerberus Trooper: That's a very impressive shield, .....

*Conversation interrupted by a headshot*

*Exactly a second later, a 2nd headshot obliverates the other guy, who didn't even had time to turn around*

*Shepard kisses his gun and walks out of cover*

Also

- Shepard (to Tali): Seriously....explain me again how exactly the Geth have caused so many troubles to the quarians (after headshooting so many Geth that in some areas they didn't even had time to spawn).

- Tali: *Looks at Shepard's Saber and rolls eyes*.

It's no mere chance that I prefer the Saber to even the Harrier against Geth :D

<snip Grissom Academy and Geth examples>

It's no mere chance that I prefer the Saber to even the Harrier against Geth :D

But those examples must be NG+, or the Saber must be modded into the game to get it at those points. I have only used the Saber recently because there is almost no point to using it by the time you do get it in new games, since you tend to have completed almost the entire game when you finally do get the Saber.

No chance BioWare employees will ever read this post, but I have suggested it before: if they are going to stick with the using third-person shooter cover combat mechanics and have armor and upgrades and mods and whatnot, then make them all available from the beginning of the game in shops only. That way, you can purchase the weapons, armor, and mods you really want as soon as you can, instead of drip-feeding them throughout the entire game. I hated waiting until the end of the game (even past the point of no return) to finally get some weapons and armor. Plus, you could get mods introduced in DLC missions and get them to level V very quickly, as opposed to vanilla mods which appeared slowly throughout the game.

Sabre works much better if you have Marksman. Then its pretty good.

NG+, of course. And NG++ if you want to enjoy the Saber X.

Yeah, a clear example of "Bioware please... ¬¬ ".

Well, OK, you made your point. It can also be done.

Still, I prefer designated marksman rifles over sniper rifles any day. I guess I'm a middle ground guy at heart :D

Engineer: M-4 Shuriken

Vanguard: M-4 Shuriken (Optional M-23 Katana but pretty much just the Shuriken)

In SP you get the Locust too late unless you are doing an NG+. Not sure why they did that since it is no longer the "I win" gun it was in ME2. It got nerfed all to hell.

Revenant too, eh? I only choose Soldier to pick that Machine Gun...

Pistol

1. Arc Pistol - best all around gun in the game sadly (MP and SP combined that is)

1. Suppressor - probably better than Arc Pistol on the whole for SP, but not quite as good against mid tier protected targets.  Tie

3. Paladin

For MP soloing I would add Scorpion maybe

Really? Doesn't the Arc Pistol do 50% more damage (3 triple damage shots vs 3 double damage shots) in Multiplayer than in Singleplayer?  Is it still worth using?  I looked up the spread sheet and it seems to say that a fully charged AP shot does a bit less damage than a Paladin shot.  I would Imagine this would make the Paladin better.

The more I'm using the Talon, the more I'm convinced it's just THE weapon of choice for Vanguards: without any other weapon in hand and the Weight Capacity evolution, at as low as tier V and the Heavy Barrel it still allows for a +200% Power Recharge time. Combine that awesome power, the fact that it ignores shield gate and the Power Magnifier, and it's nearly a perfect match.
