Eh, with Arvanis saying it comes from demons as well as Merrill saying a "spirit" helped with even the most simple of spells, nothing points in favor of that. Not saying it isn't possible, but all the evidence seems to suggest demons are needed.

If you meant Avernus from Warden's Keep, he says that Blood Magic typically comes from demons (and that the Taint is alien to them), while Merrill claims in DA2 that she learned Blood Magic from a "spirit" (since she doesn't divide them into good or bad), which we know to be a Pride Demon.

There's very little to suggest that demons or spirits are the actual source of magic and that mages need them to cast spells, since we've always been told that they gain their powers from the Fade itself. Furthermore, if a demon or spirit had that much of a foothold established in a mage, why would they then need their permission to take control over their bodies?

It seems more likely that while Spirits of the Fade may be aware and notice Mages, it's Blood Magic that is far more likely to draw Demons to seek out a Mage. We know that Blood Magic does have something of a corruptive nature if you abuse it, which would make it easier for a demon to convince a maleficar to allow a possession to take place? If you're high on power, listening to someone who promises more power, is going to seem like a pretty sweet deal?

Do we? I'd thought the last we heard was Gaider saying on the forums that it wasn't corruptive except insofar as a more than decent amount of power of any sort is.

No. He flat out says it comes from demons. Everything else, mainly suggests that it comes from demons. All magic is implied to be tied to Fade entities. The only thing that says otherwise is a line in WoT that says Blood Magic isn't tied to the Fade, which clearly isn't true.

There's also a line in the spec description in DA2 to that effect, though I agree that that seems to be untrue from the perspective of what you describe in TLF. Still, I get the impression from the way spirit magic is described that only certain magic directly employs these entities. It may be that all blood magic is of that sort, but I don't believe we see any evidence of that one way or the other.

Where is your single bit of evidence that it doesn't? The only thing I can think of it WoT, and that one line was blatantly wrong by any other source.

It's a whole big system that has been established a long time ago.

Blood is a power source same as lyrium and mana.

Demons and spirits can be power sources, but are in no way directly related to casting spells, if you do not deliberately seek them out or ask for their help.
