Weapons are restricted to specific classes.
Warriors can use one handed weapons (sword/mace, etc) and shield or a two handed weapon (greatsword, greataxe, maul). Rogues can use bows or daggers. Mages can only use staves.

Its true. I am a little disapointed but meh, I'll lose about 30 seconds sleep over it. The time for me to wish longingly for a two axed weilding rogue i had in one Da:O playthrough and then promptly move into another character concept idea.

Indeed, weapons are class restricted, and I think that is a good thing. It gives the different classes more meaning.

I do occasionally miss dual wielding axes or maces... Or putting bloodblight on a rogue...
But some combinations I don't mind losing. I have a little bit of min-maxer at heart and refused to do combinations I couldn't get skills for anyway. Such as rogues with two handed weapons.
Though I do still hold a small hope that Knight Enchanter will be at least a bit like Arcane warrior in that it will let us use our magic skill to determine armour we can wear instead of strength. But it is a very small hope at this point. It was occasionally fun to play something like that and even had a sword suited for such play.
