Can anyone explain why the game can be downloaded 20 days before it's released?

Like...if it's ready now why not let people play it? Is it just because they need to print the data onto discs?

Early access and a deal mircosoft and ea have concerning their games over all.

At-least we know the gold announcement will be soon,

I'm confused on this so if anyone can answer: I've purchased a physical copy of the Inquisitor's Edition for XBox One.  Can I preload the game ahead of time, too, or is it digital purchase exclusive?  Installing a disc can take forever, so if I'm able to do it ahead of time I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any answers!  <3

You will not be able to preload the game. Since you're going physical, you will have to install the game once you have your disc in your possession and in your disc tray, meaning you'll be waiting to play until the install is completed.

If you digitally preorder, you'll be preloading the game now so that the moment midnight hits, you can begin playing Inquisition and will not have to be inconvenienced by waiting a little longer for the install. :)

If the game is ready, the game is ready. The digital preorders on the console come with the preload install so once the installs are ready, why not? The more time preloads are available, the more likely people are to take them.

Sorry, you seem to have interpreted my post as an objection to it being available already, when really it was mostly just me expressing my surprise. As you say, if it's ready, why not? Is it commonplace then, for preloads to me available this far in advance?

Side note, my console is running Sunset Overdrive as I'm currently installing Inquisition.

Feels good to be an Xbox One owner right now. I've got the Halo MCC, AC Unity, and soon Inquisition all preloaded and ready to go for their respective release dates(11/11 for the first two and 11/18 for the game we're here for). :D

I won't accuse you of "PC elitism". However, I will accuse you of making unsubstantiated claims that have no basis in fact, which I have made bold. The Assassin's Creed: Unity thing is pure conjecture and every game in The Master Chief Collection will run at 1080p/60 FPS, so your "900p/30 FPS" comment is pure bullshit.

I recognize that the PS4 is a more powerful machine than the Xbox One, but I didn't buy a new console to ****** to resolutions and frame rates. I bought an Xbox One because I've always preferred the Xbox brand and all of my friends play on Xbox.

Oh I know that there will be some games out there it can run at 60fps (old games from older systems for the most part). Then there are games like Evil Within which run at 30fps and 640p (sub-hd) resolutions. But hey. Like I said - I don't care what system you play on or why. It's your business. If you like it then it's cool.

What I'm bothered with is lobbying being done by Microsoft to limit gaming experience of hardware superior systems like PS4 and PC. This is a d*ck move and does deserve criticism. It's you guys who think it's a personal attack :).

But the early access is weeks from now, if it's ready now why not have the early access now and the full release next week?

I figured as much but, blaaaaaaaah.  So glad I paid $100 extra for a hard copy that will probably come in the mail 24hrs+ after release.  Whamp whaaaamp; I shall comfort myself with thoughts of pretty tarot cards & lockpicks.

I think they're taking an extra month so as to avoid all the, "EA rushed its release!@$!@@#!@" rumors.

If they beat Nov. 18th, that's fine.

I can't say, consoles have only just begun doing preloads recently and while PCs have been doing preloads for years, I haven't PC gamed in ages. Literally, last game I played on one was Age of Mythology. :P

But I expect this will be the norm, so yes.

All Inquisitor's Editions are physical discs that require an install, so those of us who ordered them have to wait.  I got an IE for PS4, but also pre-bought an X1 Deluxe version from my local Gamestop which I pick up at midnight release. I dislike digital purchase because if I want to sell the game later on, I can't. I just feel like I get more for my money with a physical purchase. :)  It makes waiting a few hours more tolerable.

Who knows really, not everyone on console has a fast net. But reguardless the early access will most likely have a big patch day one if its up now.

Yeah, I don't go for the expensive versions with all the extra physical goodies. I just want the games, so I pine for extra in-game goodies. For me that means I got the digital deluxe that was $69.99.

(NO SHIPPING WOOT WOOT)

I'm currently about 40% thru my preload and I started it soon after I entered this thread. :)

Not everyone goes digital. They've got to create and package the physical copies, and they're not going to release to some people and not others (aside from country release dates).

Every game is finished weeks before release. I don't see what the surprise is here. Movies finish up before they're brought to the theatre. Finishing earlier than release has to happen. They'll market hard the last few weeks.

So three hours in and you're only at 40%?  Argh, I am not looking forward to the install wait on my copy.

For folks wondering why those going digital have to wait for those going physical, its just better to have a simultaneous launch.

Not just due to spoilers, but its simply more organized for the developers and publishers. Also helps with sales numbers and reporting, along with tech and fixing any issues that may be around.

Great idea. So someone will somehow get to dive into the data and get something like every dialogs in the game right?

Isn't it what happened with DA2 or ME3 and their demos? Couldn't they learn something from their past failures?

Gosh!

So early and PC only gets 3 days preload? Odd to say the least.

I must say I'm a bit surprised that files are being preloaded ahead of the "gone gold" announcement. Does this mean it might come this weekend at PAX Aus, along with a launch trailer?

*crosses fingers*

Now I'm torn. I already preordered it from Gamestop. But.....now I wanna cancel that and get it digi download thru XO. I know I'm never gonna trade it in. I already know that. I never trade in BW games. And it will prolly make me install sum stuff anyway. prolly abt 17gb worth of stuff even with the disk.

(although I'd like to think I'd stay up for the midnight unlock...all ready to play. Knowing me, I'll prolly fall asleep waiting for midnight! lol! I get up way too early usually to stay up so late.)

Hmmmm, what to do. I'd like to have the game already installed and ready to play at midnight, however my preorder at gamestop is completely paid off with store credit. I guess I should find out if gamestop will have it available at midnight. If they are then I guess I'll just have the deal with the time it takes to install the game. If they aren't then I'm not sure what to do. I'm dead set on playing this game right when it releases.

I'm at work so I can't sift through the thread to see if this has already been mentioned but you get a 10% discount on this purchase if you've already purchased EA Access.  Something to consider....

It's totally personal preference, but I'll be picking up a copy at midnight release, and I don't expect the install will delay me more than a couple of hours. (Or actually, maybe not at all? I will have downloaded DAI already for EA Access, so if it already uses that install when I put the disc in...)

At any rate, I think there will only be a couple hours difference, at most, between people who pre-loaded digitally, and those of us getting midnight release copies. :)
