Have you tried the different classes? If so, what are your impressions on the special class-specific abilities? I'm worried some of them are going to turn out to be useless gimmicks.

I've tried all expect Infiltrator and Engineer
The Adrenaline Rush seems pretty useless to me
Charge is fun, but it's more like High risk, low reward
Tactical armor is very useful
Singularity isn't very different than in ME1

I forgot to add that every biotic power (expect warp) can have an effect only if the target doesn't have armor/shield

Trogloditius wrote...

What do you make of the RPG elements.... can you customise characters? Armour? Weapons?
Can you run & gun with no planning, or do you have to set up your squad before fights?
Is there really a "MIssion Complete!!" sign at the end of a section?
Did you have any crashes like IGN mentioned?

And enjoy ;)

You can costumize your own armor, but not your squad mate's
I don't think planning is much needed, but squad direction is
Yes, there's a mission complete screen, but it's not annoying
No crashes, only very annoying glitches where I had to reload

EVERY class except for Soldier gets the SMG

Are you finding that the armor/shield immunity makes biotics much less useful? (I'm really torn on whether to change my adept, who was my first and favorite character in ME1, to a Sentinel, and my concern was exactly that.)

I guess I might as well ask it here, if you have recruited Tali, does she also get a combat drone, or is that only for engi-sheps?

Is there any notice of your class in game like in dialogue or cutsenes

Sentinel can kill enemies more quickly 'cos they have both warp and overload, but isn't very fun IMO. Biotics aren't really useless, since I use them mostly to finish the enemy
Most of the time, Jacob uses pull while I use charge

I don't know, you can't recruit Tali at the beginning

No, even if you aren't a soldier, Shepard still has an AR in cutscenes

Have you tried a female Shepherd yet? How does Meer compare to Hale this time around?

I tried using a FemShep only a bit, and IMO FemShep's N7 armor looks funny
Hale is as good as it was, Meer is better than he was in ME1

ok has the ammo question of doom been answered? I've seen gameplay, and I think I sorta get how it works...

Is it that bad?

Thanks, very useful review and appreciate the answer. I guess I'll stick with adept, and if I can't stand it I can always restart.

Have you seen any instances where Shepard's background info (Colonist, War Hero, etc.) have been referenced or impact the game?

I actually prefer the ammo system than the overheating system in ME1
The problem is there's very little shotgun ammo and I mostly use the SMG

Yes, twice I think (it was only referenced)

I was dissapointed that there wasn't any specific dialogue about a certain background with a certain someone

A store sold me the PC version early and I've been playing for a few hours, but I've stopped 'cos I wanna wait for the DLC. First of all, I wanna say that if you used console cheats YOUR SAVE ISN'T CORRUPTED, you can still import and there won't be any problems

Anyway here are my impresions:

Combat:
- Combat has been vastly improved, it's much more fun now
- There's much more combat than in ME1
- Ammo can be scarce if you don't look for it, especially shotgun or sniper ammo
- Sentinel is tougher than Soldier 'cos of it's special ability
- Biotic combos are fun, but you can't use biotics on someone (except warp) if the enemy has armor/shield
- Soldiers don't get the SMG
- Difficulty has been improved. I played on hardened and it was perfect, not too easy, not too hard
- Squad control has been improved

The story and places
- All I can say is that all of your questions about the story and Shepard will be answered ingame
- The review that said that it's unknown whether Shepard is a spectre and that there is no mention of them is wrong
- Planets are much more populated. The Citadel is awesome
- The choices you made in ME1 affect only dialogue and a few scenes play out differently. You do hear about stuff you did which makes the game more personal
- There are more easter eggs
- The story is "darker" and "emotional engaging"
- There's less loot now, but there's more "optional items" (like fish and stuff)

Dialogue
- Unlike ME1 where you got 3 options where Shepard says the exact same thing, you get 2 options where Shepard says totally different things
- Interrupts aren't very common
- Shepard speaks more often and there's much more personality to him
- Using charm will lead to one scene, while using intimidate leads to another, but the result is the same
- Renegade options are more fun
- Mark Meer has improved
- Cutscenes can be skipped (only the beginning scenes can't be skipped)

Minigames
- The hacking mini games are more fun than in ME1, but the scanning planets minigame is annoying

Graphics
- They're good, better than ME1
- Miranda's face looks funny in some rare scenes, but she's still pretty in most
- The red veins aren't that bad

Bugs
- SMG visually occupies the same slot as the Heavy pistol
- Shepard has an AR in cutscenes even if he isn't trained in one
- Constant glitches where you go off the map or walk 2 feet off the ground. Mostly like you've seen on Youtube
- The game lagged a couple of times
- The squad AI is dumb if you don't tell them what to do
- Loadings aren't as fast as in ME1
- There's sometimes graphic glitches in the eyes

While ME1 started off slowly, ME2 start with a bang, and for the next 2 hours there's 90% shooting, 10% dialogue. There's also very annoying achievements pop-ups that can't be disabled
So far, it looks like a better game than ME1 in every way

Any questions?

Does it blend?

I didn't see new haircuts, but one of them was changed (I could be wrong). Didn't check for new scars, sorry, I play as the default Shepard

Are you sure that shields/armor give immunity to Biotic powers? I can see it for certain powers and have seen footage where some didn't really work but just want to make sure. That will present quite the tactical challenge for my Adept....

Damn.

Considering that I wasn't really expecting too much, yes it did live up to my expectations

Overall, it's looks like a better game than ME1, it's just that the first few hours feel kinda rushed 'cos there's a lot more shooting than dialogue

Also, I feel that new players that didn't play ME1 will be confused
