I know it's too late...

so for the next game??

Can we see another weapon for mages besides staves?

Like a sceptre (very short staff, but longer than a wand - longsword sized), or a wand? Chakrams? (to borrow a weapon from Kingdoms of Amalur for magic-users)

We have two options as a rogue or warrior - ie, 2H weapons or Sword/Shield - Dual Daggers or Bow/Arrows,

so is it TOO much to ask another weapon class for mages?

Like we had the same amount of spec trees per class, the weapon itself would have a class similar to how the mundanes of Thedas have their weapon trees.

:D

Please BioWare?? xxx

I think having another weapon option is only fair since as you pointed out, the other classes have 2 options. I dont know what that would be. But itd be cool to see. Or at least give us the option to use the staff as a spear type weapon when in close combat. Or is this already a thing? Sry. Not fully caught up on DA:I info.

Yes - tis only fair!

:D

I'm not 100% on the combat mechanics, but yes - it makes sense to have two options. xxx

On the other hand, no other class has the option to do different forms of elemental damage.

Yeah, I agree, a different playstyle through a new weapon would be nice as mages get pushed further and further into support roles.... Maybe a flail? It's Medieval European, and pretty damn cool.

I would prefer polearms for mages. Though that would turn their attack into a melee only attack which some might hate.

But they would still have staves if they wanted to fight ranged.... so....

Anyway, I'm pro a melee style weapon for mages. After all, most of us want arcane warrior back just so we can actually have a proper melee-all-the-time mage.

the problem with inroducing  a new weapon for mages is that the staff is long range in close range so what would this new weapon do exactly when the staff fullfills both forms of combat long range in close range.

how about personal space AOE attacks from a book. you know basically a personal circle around the mage is constantly doing aoe damage. it's close range but its very close AOE damage range. lol

A scepter and shield would be cool. In FFXIV this option exists, but only for light shields.

Perhaps the Mages only have staves now because there staves of different elements. I wonder.

As for melee styles, I think I'll miss spears. :( Skyrim also didn't have them. I really like spears, specially along with shields, for turtling styles. I have a defensive personality for games.

i always hated the idea of mages using mundane weapons and shields. What's the point of studying Shield Spells if you are just going to hide behind a piece of drywood? in FF14 i can understand why their mages have shields as they can't cast defensive buffs generally.

some staffs have blades on them  and are enchanted by magic to cause damage, knight enchanter summons a  fade sword to use it seems.

Disagree.  The staff is iconic and easy to spot.  I think waving tiny wands and sceptres around would look silly.  I like the book idea, except in DA lore magic comes from the Fade and there is nothing to suggest it requires anything besides lyrium or blood to fuel it.  Beyond this, I think the spells are the weapon, not the staff.  Mages have lots of those.  If it were hands or staff I would be up for that.

Chakrams are not boomerangs. They are thrown metal discs. Please people, stop asking for these as weapons.

What, lightsabers don't count?

Isn't that a spell (and one that only the knight-enchanter gets)?

I agree because I personally would not use a staff - if I had another option (not only because they are so cumbersome outside - it gets worse if you fight in a building IMHO...that's why special forces in RL often use submachine-guns (or shotguns without a shoulder-stock) when storming buildings, they are smaller than a full-sized assault-rifle, but just as deadly (hell at the distances we fight in DA it would not make much difference...you are dead either way) - whatever the option is (I'd prefer a smaller staff (1/2 or 2/3 of a bigger one)...sceptres are very heavy IMHO and I personally don't plan to whack people on the head...I play ranged and prefer it that way ;) ...

greetings LAX

ps: Chakrams? - Doesn't fit the scenario IMHO (we don't have wall climbing ninjas either, so...)

Something like:

I wish that mages could go in support role (melee) more often . Anyway, I guess now that would be game breaking in DA:I.

DA2 had some cool weapons like the Magister's Scythe (which was an axe). Hawke's Champion weapon was a Spear. Simple changes like that are pleasant. It's basically a staff with a blade, and at close range, the attacks looked appropriate, even as they cast enchanted slashes (and sound effect). That esthetic was good enough for me :)

If we were given 2 weapons, they would have to remove a spell tree to allow for a weapon skill tree, else mages would have more trees than the other classes.

In the words of an irritated DA mage: "What kind of self-respecting mage uses a wand, anyway?”, so no, wands are not a thing as far as dragon age mages are concerned, they use staffs.

But nothing says you can’t add a blade to said staff ;) .
