Can't believe that Kings game last night. Hopefully they can bounce back. Bouncing back against the Spurs isn't very hopeful, though.

You're a Kings fan? Do geth's limbs somehow live in the same place across the country from geth himself?

That is need to know information. The limbs thing, that is.

I'm a Kings fan as long as they're winning in Sacramento.

Hmm how disappointing.

I was reading this.

I think it's probably a bad idea.

Well, the games are rigged as long as Lebron James wins anyways, so I don't think it'll have too negative of an impact.

Meh. Americans are weird about a lot of this stuff. I blame baseball.

Gambling addicts can still get their fix illegally. Match-fixing doesn't really happen; athletes' salaries are so high that potential winnings are pitifully small compared to the risk they incur and the potential public backlash they would face, and in order to throw a match a team's athletes would have to collaborate anyway which is laughably unlikely. Refs might do it, but making gambling illegal would not/has not changed that.

Making gambling legal in the rest of the United States would allow more idiots to waste their money pointlessly but it probably wouldn't have many significant drawbacks apart from that. I don't see much of a reason to campaign for or against it, but I don't think it's a bad thing if it happens. It would be ethically problematic to legalize it without also improving and expanding efforts to publicize the nature of gambling addiction and to help addicts recover, but those things aren't likely to happen unfortunately.

Whatever you say, dear.

so, Sixers at  0-16 and tied for the 3rd worst start in history, 3 more and they are 1st, personally i hope they dont win a single game the entire season, tanking teams should be destroyed, the NBA should take away their draft picks and ban Sam Hinkie from basketball for life

I see this thread is still lively. Is it confirmed that Rondo is going to Dallas?

Livelier than my MLB thread. And yes its confirmed. I'm not all that knowledgeable on the NBA but it seems like a win for both, Dallas especially.

Nice! I want Rondo to have at least a slim chance to get another ring.

Any of you guys ever use a glow-in-the-dark basketball? I believe I still have the one I got several years ago. I should get a new one, though, because the glow effect appears to have worn off.

Nah, I've always wanted to. Never balled at night though.

The worst part about going home for Christmas is that I get basically zero NBA games until I go back to the US.

Well, that and the airfare. But mostly the NBA thing.

So there's an NBA thing going on in London tonight! The Knicks are playing the Bucks at the O2 tomorrow, and tonight's the big party. I doubt the game will be all that watchable, but other things are!

Namely, Alix Wilton Regan doing the Mutombo finger wag...with Dikembe Mutombo.

I'm sorry BioWare if this doesn't somehow make it into Inquisition story DLC I'll be very very cross with you.

Anybody watching Cleveland right now? It's like all their attacks are a fast break :P Kylie Irving just threw an alleyoop pass from Cleveland's own defensive paint pretty much.

edit

Haha. This is ridiculous. They're up by 38, with 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.

Yeah, those of us outside California without League Pass also missed Klay Thompson's epic quarter. Last night he dropped 37 on the Kings...in the third quarter alone...on 100% shooting, including 2/2 from the line and 9/9 from three. What. That game was tied 58-58 when he went on his run, and ended up being a twenty-point blowout despite Boogie Cousins completely destroying Andrew Bogut down the stretch (28-11). Thompson ended the game with 52. That 37-point quarter is an all-time NBA record, FWIW.

The Warriors - and the Hawks, who just won fifteen straight - are absolutely terrifying.

This thread being dead makes me sad... :(

Well, there are about eight skillion league storylines to go after. There's the Cavs coming together with their 14-1 run, like I suggested they probably would back when they kinda sucked. (Although, to be fair, I was wrong about how long it would take.) There's the Warriors continuing to destroy the rest of the league. There's the Hawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwks' sadly-over win streak. There's the Rockets' horrific 9-of-45 from 3 night, and how in spite of everything James Harden and Steph Curry ought to be neck and neck for the MVP race. There's the backlash to the Pau Gasol backlash. There's Barkley's insane and quixotic anti-statistics campaign. There's Bob Voulgaris's continued reign as king of hardcore NBA Twitter.

But I think that despite all of the amazing that is happening, Andrew Sharp had one of the funnier takes:

We go live to a sequence from the end of Magic-Knicks. I’m watching this on TV from 30 feet away in a bar. It’s tied 75-75 with five minutes left, so I figure I have to watch. Then:

Nikola Vucevic tries to post up and falls over, crumbling to the ground and losing the ball.
Knicks ball. Pablo Prigioni dribbles around for 10 seconds, jumps in the lane for no apparent reason, and throws it right back to the Magic.
Victor Oladipo takes the steal the other way and crashes into Langston Galloway for an obvious charge but somehow gets the foul, possibly because the refs can’t bear to watch overtime.
He hits both free throws. 77-75 Magic.
Tim Hardaway leans across the lane and gets his shot obliterated by whichever Magic big man isn’t Vucevic.
Fast break the other way. Elfrid Payton gets fouled.
He sinks two free throws. 79-75.
Bargs ISO. He dribbles inside, dribbles outside to the baseline, loses control of the ball twice, nearly falls out of bounds in the corner, then regains his composure to take an all-four-limbs-flying-different-directions fallaway jumper from 18 feet.
And … yep. That’s enough Knicks to hold me over for the rest of the season. Also, probably enough Magic. It was a fun three minutes!

That was amazing. It's hard to keep up with games on basic cable. No way to search for when games are coming on.
