So at this point we know Hawke will be in the game.  We know there is no save import.  They have said if they bring Hawke of the Warden back they would def not force us to have the default look for them.  So how will they do it?  Will there be a character creator break halfway through the game?  will there be two characters to create at the start of the game?  I would really like to know this.

They said there'd be CC for custom Hawkes. I would assume it'd happen in the process of setting up the game, like maybe before making your Inquisitor and after selecting one's worldstate? That's just a guess though. I'd like to get a glimpse at it too, though, because I am ridiculously attached to my Hawke and I need to know things like 'are his facial tattoos going to be available' and 'are the DA2 hairstyles going to be there or am I going to have to pick a new one?'

1) You upload your DA2 profiles of the hawk you want in game with origin (EA digital distribution system)

2) Log on to Dragon age Keep. Sync that up with origins which has hawke's appareance because you uploaded your profile in step one.

3) Choose the Hawke profile you want to use with Dragon age keep website.

4) Change the world's history to what you want it to be

5) When you start Da:I you can sync it with Origin (not DA:O) that downloads a world state to your platform.

6) Choose the world state with the hawke you want.

7) Play.

I imagine when you begin the quests with Hawke involved Varric will "describe" Hawke, and open up the Character Creator for you. Or maybe something else, we'll know for sure in a few weeks.

@Gothfather, the game is not going to be able to recreate a custom Hawke's face from the World State. All the Keep has is a jpeg of the character portrait. (A jpeg that could actually be overwritten in order to create a custom avatar for the legacy bsn)

That would make sense.

Mike laidlaw has said that you will use a CC to design hawke in DA:I.

also i'll be honest, its been talked about so much i'm amazed threads are popping up about this.

Spoiler

They said he would get more than a passing mention. that doesn't mean we will have a quest associated.

We got a definitive answer a while ago, CC will provided for returning characters if and when it is needed so Hawke will be have the custom appearance of your choice with the added bonus of looking better with the DA:I CC.

I believe Gaider mentioned it somewhere. Or at least I saw a quote attributed to him saying that. *shrug*

Mentioned by Laidlaw actually, taken from his twitter

"IF we were going to have one of your previous characters appear, we would absolutely give you a chance to change his or her look."

I'm sure you will find out when you get to play the game.

No afraid not. Data synced to the Keep is in game achievements, plot decisions etc. There is no face code or similar uploaded, and the portrait isn't enough to rebuild our Hawkes from, its just a flat image. No CC in The Keep either.

My guess?

1. Inquisitor gets a mission to find The Champion of Kirkwall

2. Inquisitor, summons Varric, "so... what should I know about this Champion, Varric?"

3. Varric: "Hawke? Ha, let me tell you about Hawke, get comfortable..."

4. Cue cutscene with shadowy figure appearing from the gloom

5. Enter character creator.

Not sure if anyone noticed but Hawke featured a number of times in the last trailer, without the Inquisitor insight. I didn't notice it but Lady Insanity did.

My guess is that Hawke will feature prominently in the plot line from the cancelled DA2 expansion that they incorporated into DA:I. This actually surprises me because I always thought that they'd just have the Inquisitor take whatever role Hawke was going to have and then use Varric to link it all together.

As for Hawke's appearance, I agree with Yuoman, I think the'y use a story of Varric's to trigger a character creator in game.

That way it'll be a surprise for those who haven't been following the marketing.

Looks like I missunderstood them about syncing your DA2 profiles with the keep meaning they have your Hawke's appearance.

I used the default FemHawke because I loved her unique hair. Which puts me in the lucky position of having my Hawke already known by the game.

Eh, as long as I can get her personality and decisions implemented with no bugs, it's still "my" Hawke.   Even if her appearance isn't the one I choose.  ;)

I'm kind of hoping that besides look we can also choose a basic personality for our Hawke (diplomatic/snarky/aggressive) since they're our character but we won't be playing them directly. Maybe as a voice set.

Edit: It looks like this can be decided in the Keep, so yay. Snarky!Hawke forever. :D

I believe Gaider mentioned it somewhere. Or at least I saw a quote attributed to him saying that. *shrug*

this is what Gaider said about it.

"A couple of things, to clarify without giving away much in the way of spoilers:

The Warden of DAO will not be seen in-game, as you already know.

He/she is more than simply mentioned in passing, however. There is some story, though I won't say more than that."

If you were expecting DAI to be "the continued adventures of the DAO Warden", however, then no, it will definitely not be that. I feel quite comfortable in saying that will never happen, sorry."

and

"I did not say you would not find out what happened to the DAO Warden. I said they receive more than passing reference, and there is a story involving them, but you would not see them appear personally in-game."

Here is the link to his posts on the matter.

To me that implies something of a quest, even if it's relatively minor and probably exploring consequences of some of the Warden's various decisions. That's just a guess, however. I misremembered it slightly, I suppose, due to my own inference, but we'll see. *Shrug*

And as much as I would LOVE to play the Exalted March DLC as it was intended, I'm not sure that's going to happen either, based on some other things Gaider said on his tumblr account. I'm grateful that we at least get to sort of experience it though. I'm still feeling pretty optimistic about Hawke's return, though.
